Premier League Clubs Could Get Financial Bonuses to Maintain Champions League Spots

According to media reports, English clubs could be provided with some special financial incentives for progressing to the Europa League competition’s latter stages. Giving money bonuses comes as a measure to maintain the four spots of Premier League in the Champions League competition.

As a matter of fact, one of the four Champions League places of the Premier League clubs could be lost to Seria A. This could happen, as the English teams’ UEFA coefficient drops below the one of the Italian league clubs. The decline in question was reported by several media at the latest Premier League meeting.

This resulted in an extra monetary bonus to Premier League clubs being considered in order to make them take the Europa League competition more seriously and responsively. The truth is that the pressure from Seria A clubs has been recently increasing, especially considering the fact that both Fiorentina and Juventus finished as runner-ups in the two European competitions in the 2014/2015 campaign.

All this could see the English clubs left with only three places in the Champions League ranking by 2018/2019 season.

According to rumours, a certain part of the multi-billion TV deal of the Premier League could be used as a financial encouragement for local clubs in order to put more efforts in winning the secondary cup competition of Europe. The Premier League’s TV deal amounted to £8.3 billion and is considered as one of the biggest deals of such type ever signed.

Regardless of the fact that no new implementations are expected until the expiration date of the Premier League’s TV contract in 2018, a change is considered as a necessity as soon as possible.

Up to date, the team of Chelsea are the only Premier League club that have managed to reach the semi-final stage of Europa League since 2010. Over the recent years, both Chelsea and Fulham have succeeded in reaching the competition’s final.

The constantly increasing pressure from the Italian clubs and the dropping coefficient of English teams have made the Premier League to start looking for various solution of the situation in order to counter the problem in the most reasonable way provided the busy schedule of the English football clubs.

According to media reports, a variety of measures have been discussed, such as an eventual winter break, eliminating FA cup replays and even moving the games of the FA to the middle of the week. These suggestions were made in order for the Premier League clubs to become less likely to turn their backs on the Europa League as an additional burden.
