Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang Denies Arsenal Move in January

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang turned down speculations that he is to leave Borussia Dortmund in order to join the ranks of Arsenal since the German team revealed that no plans for more players’ sales over the January transfer window are made.

The sporting director of Borussia Dortmund – Michael Zorc – has also commented on the media reports, saying that the club has not made any plans for selling more players in January after the season-long loan contract of Adnan Januzay from Manchester United was cancelled. Januzay had only 12 appearances for the German team in all competitions up to date.

Zorc said in an interview that the club does not have “too many players”, considering this month’s sale of the attacking midfielder Jonas Hofmann to Borussia Mönchengladbach.

The 27-year-old Neven Subotic had also been intensely linked with an eventual transfer to Liverpool, especially when taking into account the fact that the centre-back has appeared only twice in the club’s Bundesliga matches in the season so far.

Rumours that Aubameyang has been a transfer target of Arsenal, who have been planning to make an offer for the player, have been renewed recently. The 26-year-old forward has managed to net the ball 18 times in Bundesliga matches over the current campaign so far. He is also part of Gabon national football team and was entitled as Africa’s Footballer of the Year on January 7th.

Now the Gunners are one of the most elite European football clubs linked with Aubameyang. Their manager Arsene Wenger has been known as an admirer of the Borussia Dortmund player which is why he has been expected to make a bid for the forward.

Previously, Aubameyang has shared he would like to play in La Liga in the future. However, now he explained that he had made no plans for a looming departure from the German team that currently occupies the second position in the national Bundesliga table. In an interview for a reputable sports media at the CAF award ceremony in Nigeria he denied rumours of going to Arsenal, saying that he has no intentions of leaving Borussia Dortmund anytime soon.

The forward managed to beat formidable rivals Yaya Toure and Andre Ayew in the Africa’s Footballer of the Year competition. Toure has won the award four times, but Aubameyang has managed to get a total of 143 points, which left Toure as a runner-up with a result amounting to 136 point. Andre Ayaw occupied the third place in the ranking with a result of 112 points. This makes the 26-year-old forward the first player of his country to win the award.
