James Rodriguez Likely to Join English Premier League Club in the Summer

Chelsea is believed to be among the clubs that have eyed James Rodriguez, the current attacking midfielder of the Spanish grand Real Madrid. Rumour has it that Rodriguez is considering the option of leaving Bernabeu and joining another team next summer as he was unhappy with the appointment of Rafael Benitez who has been in charge of the Meringues since the beginning of June.

Although this is the most apparent reason that justifies his will to leave the club, fans are convinced that the midfielder is also willing to escape the shadow cast by Christiano Ronaldo.

Chelsea is among the interested parties, but they do not seem like the perfect match for Rodriguez. The club has experienced serious setbacks during the season, they performed poorly in attack, which sent them to the 14th place in the Premier League standings. The Colombian is a tremendous talent, but the Blues are currently two points clear the drop zone. They have no chance to secure a spot at the Champions League either.

If Rodriguez becomes available, there would be several top teams interested in signing him. According to reliable sources, Manchester City is determined to match every bid Chelsea propose for Rodriguez.

Although there is plenty of time until the summer transfer window, Rodriguez’ agent, Jorge Mendes, has already started an investigation aimed at figuring out which elite club deserves his client’s signature.

Currently, there is a tension between Rodriguez and Rafa Benitez as the midfielder struggled to make a telling impact under the newly appointed boss of Real Madrid. What is more, the Colombian was recently overweight and as a result, he was not given playing time. If the tension escalates and the player and the new manager do not find a common language, Rodriguez’ departure from Bernabeu will be on the agenda.

As mentioned above, Rodriguez is a really talented player who proved himself as the ideal replacement of Angel Di Maria, but since he joined Real Madrid, the Colombian has been in the shadows of Bale, Benzema and Ronaldo.

Rodriguez chipped in a great number of assists and scored a total of 24 goals during the last season, which made him a key player in Real Madrid’s squad. Although it would not be easy for Benitez to find him a replacement, the Spanish club might still be tempted to accept a bid in order to secure funds for two Premier League stars, expected to join La Liga – Diego Costa and Eden Hazard.
