Atletico Madrid Go Second at La Liga

Atlético Madrid won a 1-0 victory over Real Betis on Sunday. One goal was a sufficient amount to grab the 3 points rank the team second in La Liga. The team took advantage of Real Madrid’s loss on Saturday.

Koke, a-23-old midfielder, scored a point in the 7th minute of the match. The early advantage was more than enough to achieve a success. The last time when Koke scored was at the game against Sevilla. The team won a 3-0 victory over Unai Emery’s men.

Atlético climbed over the Spanish giant Real Madrid. Atletico go 2nd after Barcelona and has 26 point in total. Barcelona lead the chart with four points ahead of Diego Simeone’s team, and Real Madrid have a total amount of 24 points, which rank the team third.

Fernando Torres stroke towards Betis’ net, but goalkeeper Antonio Adán managed to deal with the low shot. However, Koke took advantage of the rebound and stroke. Within seven minutes the result was 1-0 in favour of Atlético Madrid. This goal was a blast for Simeone’s men, because it placed the team between the Spanish giants.

The match was intense. After the goal the hosts could not manage to muster a serous attack. Even tough the well-organized challenges, Atlético missed several opportunities to score more points and the team could not double the result. They had a late chance to build on lead after the post.

Koke commented that they could have scored a lot more, but the win was important. The team had expected that the match would be tough. The early advantage definitely helped in making the game easier. He said that Atlético were happy to be second, “but it’s just an anecdote”.

Koke added that the team was targeting the third place at La Liga and would concentrate on this goal. He said that anything above it was just extra. Although Atlético are 2014 champions, they are not chasing another title.

“We move ahead game by game, and we’ll see how far we can go,” added Simeone.

It is a big win for Atlético, because they replaced Real Madrid and are one step closer to winning. Barcelona achieved a great 4-0 victory over Real on Saturday’s match at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.
