Manchester United were heavily linked with more than a few quality players in the winter transfer window but ended up signing no one.
Portuguese international and Benfica star Nelson Semedo was one of those players linked with the Red Devils. Now, reports in Portugal suggest that the Old Trafford club are set to sign him next summer.
According to Noticias ao Minuto, Benfica have reached an agreement with the club guided by Jose Mourinho to seal Semedo’s transfer in the next transfer window.
Few days back, Evening Standard’s Goncalo Lopes claimed that United will be paying a fee of 31 million euros to lure the 23-year-old defender. However, Noticias ao Minuto have claimed that they are ready to offer 41 million euros to secure his signature.
The versatile right back has a release clause of 45 million euros ($49million) in his contract (SW via O Jogo).
At the moment, veteran star Antonio Valencia is United’s first choice right back under the management of Mourinho.
The Ecuadorian star has performed well for the Red Devils this season but United need a quality player who could serve the club for the long term.
Semedo was not a key member of the Benfica side last season but he has impressed big time in the current campaign under Rui Vitoria. In 31 appearances, Nelson has netted 2 goals and also provided 7 assists.
