Liverpool Face a Possible Transfer Blow?

Liverpool Face a Possible Transfer Blow?Brendan Rodgers continues transfer dealings in perhaps the most important transfer window that can make or break his career with Liverpool. The former Swansea manager has already secured four deals for the merseysiders but wants more additions before the transfer market ends.
The renowned departures from Anfield include that of Andy Carroll moving to West Ham and young midfielder Jonjo Shelvey moving to Rodgers’s previous club. Although, Liverpool net spending this summer is just 3 million pounds yet more departures may be needed to fund further signings.
They can get a huge sum if anyone offers right price for star player Luis Suarez but as claimed by managing director Ian Ayre, Reds do not want to sell Uruguayan and hope that he will be a Liverpool player come next season.
Assaidi might be departing for Feynoord but there is one player who is also surplus to requirements at Liverpool. The player in discussion is Stewart Downing. Signed for a hefty amount of 20 million pounds, Downing has never been able to prove himself.
The England international was close to leaving the club in January but sudden lift in form saved him and he started playing regularly. Although, Downing played better under Rodgers than in his first season under Dalglish, however Liverpool now have enough players who can take his place outwide, while he will be mostly warming the bench.
Liverpool face a possible transfer blow that way with Downing turning 29 this month, earning 60k a week, his value is only going down and if sanity prevails, the winger is not going to get much playing time as well. Even in such a scenario, he wants to stay and claims:

“I want it to continue. It’s why I came here – to play in a successful team. I want that to continue as long as possible.”

The Indonesian fans on tour made a banner for him lately that read ‘Stay here SD19 – don’t go away’. Hope that he follows the literal meaning there.
Rodgers plays 4-3-3 formation and if Suarez stays, the expected front 3 are likely to be Suarez, Sturridge and Coutinho. Even if he departs, Liverpool have signed Aspas and Alberto who can play in the position. Adding to that they already have youngsters like Sterling and Jordan Ibe to step up as well.
Therefore, the quality and depth is there but well Downing hopes that things remains the same as they were last season

“I’m enjoying it – especially last season. I got a good run in the team. Hopefully that will continue, and I need to work hard.”

West Ham have recently shown interest in signing Downing for a reported price of 8 million pounds, even their assistant manager Mcdonald has admired the winger. On the other hand, the mentioned amount can help Liverpool in the transfer market as well.
Just like in case of Carroll, it is better for all the parties that Downing leaves. Whether or not they will offload the England winger this summer? Only time will tell.
