Lyon surprisingly end negotiations with Liverpool for club-captain

French outfit Lyon have confirmed that they have ended transfer negotiations with Liverpool regarding club-captain Nabil Fekir. The France international was heavily tipped to join the Merseyside giants prior to the summer World Cup but the potential agreement has now been cancelled, according to Les Gones’ official website.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have already done their initial business for the summer with the announcement of Fabinho’s arrival from AS Monaco but unfortunately, they have been unable to get through a deal for Fekir.
The Frenchman is understood to have undergone a medical, agreed terms and had an introductory video with the Merseyside outfit but the club appear to have doubted their very own pursuit at the 11th hour.
As per The Mirror, the Reds were said to be concerned over the Frenchman’s injury concerns over his right knee and this prompted them to re-negotiate a lesser transfer sum which did not impress Les Gones.
Keeping this in regard, Les Gones have now made an official statement to confirm that Fekir won’t be making the move to Anfield this summer and they have gone to the extent of suggesting that the attacker will stay put with them for the next campaign.
Despite the announcement, Liverpool could remain optimistic over a deal for the Frenchman considering they found themselves in a similar position with Virgil van Dijk 12 months ago.
Back then, the Reds had to pull out of the pursuit of Southampton defender Van Dijk following an illegal approach from Klopp but they managed to sign the Dutchman six months later where they paid a club-record £75m fee for his services.
Liverpool have been fairly active since the resumption of the transfer window and they have already recruited Fabinho from AS Monaco. Any fresh negotiations for Fekir, however, may only begin following the summer World Cup.
