Manchester United Angle – The Spanish Flight

Ander Herrera Man UnitedAs am writing this its raining over here. Africans usually take the rain as a sign of blessing and one place those blessings are currently being counted is The Theatre of Dreams.
A month ago Old Trafford received a lot of criticism for their playing style. This was mostly voiced by the fans who kept on chanting “Attack! Attack! Attack”. Praise has to be heaped on Van Gaal though. [A true football genius] He’s been able to make players who were termed doomed in their careers to play an important role. The likes of Fellaini, Young and Mata have benefited from the Dutch man and as for now they look more likely to stay on.
Van Gaal has opted to have a Spanish wing with the likes of Valencia, Mata and Herrera and its paying dividends. Smalling’s absence was clearly noted even in our local entertainment joint but that did not deter the in form Red Devils.
Against Aston Villa it was a Spaniard once again on the score sheet. Ander Herrera had not been given much of a start during the campaign, only coming in as a substitute and even then he impressed. Now with more game time he’s proving himself a necessity to have on the pitch along with Juan Mata.
5 minutes into the game Rooney was about to pull the trigger to put his name on the score sheet before being tugged back. The referee turned down his penalty appeal. He did himself no favours ranting at the referee and playing on with a scowl to show his frustration.
A few minutes from half time, Blind and Young paired up on the left. Instead of delivering the ball to Fellaini (which was ineffective, as the Belgian was marked), Young dragged the ball to Herrera who sent the ball past Brad Guzan into the bottom left-corner.
Di Maria came in for Young and it did not take him long to find his favourite man (Wazza). He beat his man and delivered a cross for the England captain which was too far behind but Rooney showed why he is The White Pele(Master Class). He plucked the ball from the air and swiveled to do a half volley sending the ball rocketing into the back of the net.
Two minutes later, the Villans got a consolation goal when Benteke fired home a low cross from Joe Cole that Dave should have done better to keep out.
It was not over till the fat lady sang. Herrera swiped in a drop ball from Rooney past Guzan to secure the 3 points. The kid can’t send a screamer like Scholsey but (dang!)he does have a nose for goal (the new Scholsey with spunk).
With growing fluidity in every match, its safe to say that the players have understood LvG’s philosophy and are going to be a pain on every team till the end of the season.
Will Man United continue to shine or will they be kept in check by arch rivals Man City?
Give your thoughts on the trend of the Red Devils and areas of improvement.
