12 Starts, 9 Goals – Arsenal Close in on Signing €24m Star

Real Sociedad Antoine GriezmannPremier league leaders may have had an impressive season as far as things have gone by but better teams have shown that Arsenal can still struggle.
Napoli deservedly beat the Gunners in their last Champions League game and Arsene Wenger must take note of their weaknesses and sign world class players in winter.
Striker should be the first one. To be honest, Giroud is brilliant in build up play but have to disagree with Wenger on his saying that the French star is a great striker.
Great strikers are the likes of Suarez and Agueros and Van Persies. It will be an absolute crime to say that Giroud is even better than Higuain because the Argentine is World Class and scored a goal that is perhaps not present in Giroud’s locker.
Other than that, Arsene Wenger is looking to sign another top quality attacking midfielder to further increase the strength and competition in that department.
According to reports, Arsenal are closing in on signing €24m Star Antoine Griezmann of Real Sociedad.
The French star has become mature over the years and at 22, he is a fantastic talent. Sociedad are currently 6th in the league with major contributions from the youngster. The La Liga side are aware of the interest from other clubs and may as well lose him if a decent offer comes in.
Last season, Griezmann scored 10 goals, provided 5 assists in 32 league starts. This year, he has been brilliant, scoring 9 goals and setting up 1 in just 12 starts in La Liga.
Capable of playing on both flanks, mainly utilized on the left, he can be major asset for the gunners. However, the only negative signing him this winter is that he is cup-tied in CL and cannot help Arsenal in the Champions league this season.
Whether or not Arsene will splash the cash to sign the 22 year old Real Sociedad winger, only time will tell.

Arsenal desperately needs a goal poacher in the mould of Suarez in the next window. Beyond the squad team however, match tactics also has to be perfected. Arsenal had no reason to lose to Napoli on the night. Arsenal’s game is fashioned to attack so a defensive set up as it was on the night was an error just like it proved to be when we played against Man united. Arsenal possesses enough weapons for other teams to worry about so the set up should be positive. Arteta and Flamini should not be starting together.

Giroud is definitely not a world class striker. With the world class mid fielders around him and the opportunities he had to score, he should have scored more goals. A more clinical striker would have converted at least 2 goals against Monaco. Without recruiting a top notch striker in January, I don’t see Arsenal winning any trophy this year.

    He’s a winger; not a striker. Facts?

  4. Roland C Rozario says:

Never rule out the possibility that Thierry Henry will join The Gunners for another loan spell!

  5. Prince Joe from Nigeria says:

Winter signing should have been completed in confidence and not to wait till deadline date of 31st Jan. if Wenger is serious of winning silver ware at the end of May. Striker should be number one option in this regard thereby given Giroud a chance to rest for at least five matches in other to refresh himself for the task ahead. The day Wenger sign a player on the first of transfer market, that day marks the push of silverwares for the club, we are waiting to see changes in the transfer window come Jan 2014.

Giroud is 2 weak we need another striker 2 replace him not even 2 play along with him bcos he cannot use a beautiful chance 2 score. We just need sign an agile and a fast running striker not weak strikers.

Totally agree with you Victor Kay, what’s the sense in starting Arteta and Flamini, and yes we need a goal poacher, someone who doesn’t think about the goals, he just delivers, Big ups to Giroud, he’s been phenomenal so far!!

  8. Ojo Babajide says:

Prof.Aw needs not to wait untill the end of the winter window.it is obvious that the team need a decisive, fast and think tank striker.if the years of trophyless must come to an end.
