Arsenal plan to reward with midfielder with four-year contract

Arsenal midfielder Alex Iwobi has apparently agreed to put pen-to-paper on a new long-term deal with the Gunners. The Nigeria international has made nearly 100 appearances for the club since graduating through the ranks and he now appears on the cusp of extending his Emirates stay.
According to The Mirror, the versatile midfielder has agreed on a four-year contract with the north London giants despite the ongoing speculation of him leaving the Emirates Stadium.
A recent report from Il Messaggero suggested that Lazio could make an approach to sign the Nigerian before the transfer deadline but may not be the case anymore with Iwobi receiving assurances of gametime under Unai Emery next season.
Iwobi made his Premier League debut for the Gunners during the 2015/16 campaign and his promising performances earned him early comparisons with his uncle and Nigerian legend Jay-Jay Okocha.
However, he has since struggled to find the same consistency on the playing field and this has forced him to settle for a bench role on more occasion than not over the past couple of seasons.
With a fresh contract, Iwobi has the opportunity to prove his worth to Emery during the coming campaign while Arsenal may also consider the move as a positive one, given they can maintain their transfer valuation, should he fail to impress.
Arsenal have so far tackled the likes of Boreham Wood, Crawley Town and Brentford in pre-season friendlies and they are now off to Singapore where they are scheduled to face Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain in the International Champions Cup.
Thereafter, the north Londoners will be making the trip back to Europe for the final part of pre-season which includes games against Chelsea and Lazio. Arsenal begin their Premier League campaign with a home fixture versus reigning champions Manchester City next month.
