Spanish goalkeeper agrees new contract with Manchester United

Spain international David de Gea has reportedly agreed to sign a new long-term contract at Manchester United. The shot-stopper has been on Real Madrid’s radar over the past years but he appears to have snubbed their interest to commit his future to the Red Devils.
According to The Manchester Evening News, the 27-year-old has agreed to put pen-to-paper on a new five-year contract which would prolong his stay until the summer of 2023. United are yet to offer any confirmation regarding the shot-stopper’s future but the agreement may be revealed once the Spaniard returns following the World Cup finals in Russia.
De Gea has spent the last seven seasons with the Mancunian giants and during his period, he has transformed into one of the world’s most reliable goalkeepers. The Spaniard certainly did not have the best of starts to his United career but over the years, he has become efficient between the sticks whilst making notable mind-boggling saves.
As such, an extension of his contract could be regarded as a huge boost for United, who have witnessed De Gea linked with Los Blancos since his botched transfer in the summer of 2015. Back then, the Spaniard had even boarded the Madrid flight to finalise his dream move but unfortunately, his deal was scuppered on transfer deadline day after the necessary documents were only produced to FIFA following the cut-off time.
Both clubs have since blamed each other for the failed move but De Gea has gone with his business as usual and he has been voted as the Premier League’s best goalkeeper in each of the previous three seasons. He has also picked the club’s Player of the Year award on four occasions since arriving at Old Trafford from Atletico Madrid in 2011.
