Karim Benzema calls for Unity within Real Madrid as he wants the team to focus on the unfinished business left in the campaign.
Los Blancos might be way out of the title race as Barcelona lead the way in La Liga, still the French striker wants his teams mates to stay up beat and finish the season on a high.
On Saturday, Mourinho’s men suffered another shocking defeat at the hands of Granada. They are now sixteen points behind the Catalan side with only 16 games left in the league campaign. Not just that, currently Madrid are not even the best side in the Spanish capital as the champions are also 7 points behind their rivals Atletico Madrid.
Despite all the sufferings, Benzema wants Madrid squad to be United and fight for the titles they can still win especially the coveted Champions League Trophy. The Madrid starlet claimed:
“We have the Champions League to play for and that is a special competition – especially for this club,”
“And then there is the Copa semi-final with Barcelona which is also very open.
“At this point in time, the team has to be united. We all have the same goal and we will not give up.”
Real Madrid are the most successful team in the history of European Cup with 9 titles but their last triumph came way back more than 10 years ago in 2002 when legendary Zidane’s volley won it for Los Blancos against German side Bayer Leverkusen.
Since then the Spanish side has failed to even reach the finals of the competition. Last year they were ousted in the semis by Bayern Munich on penalties and Madrid will be looking to win it this time around with all the balls in one court as winning La Liga is out of question.
Mourinho has already won the competition twice with Porto in 2004 and Inter Milan in 2010. He probably has the last chance to win it with Real Madrid as failing to win may cost him his job. Madrid face Manchester United in the round of 16 next week.
