Liverpool will face Man City on Anfield this Sunday in a direct battle for the Premier League leadership. Despite being early in the season, the tie can be decisive for the title in May and none of the teams will risk to lose it.
Based on the recent matches between the two sides, we can expect another derby with lots of goals and high-quality football.

Liverpool F.C. vs. Manchester City F.C. News

Both teams will take part in the Champions League this week. Man City hosts Hoffenheim on the 2nd of October while Liverpool travels to Naples on the 3rd.
Divock Origi and Virgil van Dijk will miss the match for Liverpool and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is not expected to return into action, either. Adam Lallana might be missing, too.
Despite having a longer bench, Man City will surely feel the absence of Kevin De Bruyne. Benjamin Mendy, Claudio Bravo, Eliaquim Mangala, and Philippe Sandler will also miss the match.

Liverpool F.C. vs. Manchester City F.C. Head to Head

Each of the last 5 matches between the teams in all competitions ended with more than 2.5 goals scored and Liverpool won 4 of them. This streak started right after Man City destroyed Liverpool 5-0 at Etihad in September 2017.
Man City could not keep a clean sheet in 4 successive games against Liverpool.
Both teams come into the match with 6 wins and a draw, heading the PL table with Man City on top with a better goal difference.

Liverpool F.C. vs. Manchester City F.C. Betting Tips

Liverpool have not lost a Premier League home game in 22 matches.
Liverpool scored 2 or more goals in 29 out of their last 39 home games in all competitions.
Man City have not lost in 13 successive Premier League matches.
Man City managed to score at least 1 goal in their last 11 Premier League away games.

Liverpool F.C. vs. Manchester City F.C. Prediction

A match which can go three-way. What is sure – neither of the opponents would like to lose and both teams will try to win with attacking and attractive football. Bookmakers give a small advantage to Liverpool as they are hosts but that will not be the decisive factor.
The almost sure bet is both teams to score and it is priced at 1.50. Over 2.5 goals in the match will not come as a surprise but the ones willing to risk it might bet on over 3.5 goals.
Liverpool vs. Man City BTTS 1.50 @bet365
Liverpool vs. Man City over 3.5 goals 2.37 @bet365

Chelsea and Liverpool are facing each other again on Saturday (29 September) after their midweek Carabao Cup fixture which finished in a 2:1 win for the Blues. Liverpool have the chance to get a revenge for that narrow defeat as they were the one-goal lead until the 79th minute. Chelsea’s defender Emerson Palmieri equalized the score and Eden Hazard came off the bench to put an end to the Reds’ hopes with a brilliant goal in the 85th minute.
Liverpool’s manager Jurgen Klopp was not happy at all as became apparent from a comment he made during his after-match interview:
“I think the first goal is offside. Three players are offside – two for sure. They watched it and didn’t think it was offside. We have to take it. This is good preparation for Saturday but we have to defend better.”
Both managers have made eight changes from the weekend as Fabinho made his debut in the starting eleven for the Merseyside team while Caballero, Cahill, Emerson, Christensen, Barkley, Fabregas, Moses, and Morata came in for Chelsea.

Key Players Missing

Van Ginkel will not play for Chelsea due to a knee injury while Loftus-Cheek, Pedro, and Rudiger are doubtful and may not be fit to start.
Oxlade-Chamberlain (knee injury) misses the rest of the season for Liverpool, Origi is injured too.
Lallana, van Dijk, and Lovren are questionable.

Chelsea F.C. vs. Liverpool F.C. Head to Head

Both teams have played 70 matches against each other. Liverpool have 23 victories, Chelsea have 29 victories, and 18 matches ended in a draw. As many as 4 of the last 8 matches have finished in a draw with the same result – 1:1. Both teams have scored in 7 out of the 8 last games between the two sides except the fixture at Stamford Bridge in the previous season, which finished with a victory for the hosts (1:0).

Chelsea Team Form

26.09.18 EFL Liverpool 1-2 Chelsea
23.09.18 EPL West Ham 0-0 Chelsea
20.09.18 UEL PAOK 0-1 Chelsea
15.09.18 EPL Chelsea 4-1 Cardiff
01.09.18 EPL Chelsea 2-0 Bournemouth

Liverpool Team Form

26.09.18 EFL Liverpool 1-2 Chelsea
22.09.18 EPL Liverpool 3-0 Southampton
18.09.18 UCL Liverpool 3-2 Paris SG
15.09.18 EPL Tottenham 1-2 Liverpool
01.09.18 EPL Leicester 1-2 Liverpool
Both teams are in a blasting form and it is very difficult to predict who will be the winner. They have won their matches in the Champions League, too. Liverpool has won all their league matches so far. The Merseyside team is playing a very pleasant attacking football, with Jurgen Klopp in charge. They just can’t stop winning at the moment, having great players like Mo Salah, Mane, Firmino, and Sturridge in the front, but their weakness in defence can be decisive, especially if van Dijk has not recovered to play in the match.
Chelsea have not lost a single game this season. They have 5 wins and a draw. Maurizio Sarri, who became their manager this summer, has improved the team’s performance as The Blues looked quite miserable with Antonio Conte in charge during the last campaign. Eden Hazard (5 goals and 2 assists) is in top form and we expect he will score again.

Chelsea F.C. vs. Liverpool F.C. Betting tips

Both teams scored in 3 out of 6 Chelsea league games in the current season. In 4 games, it was total goals over 2.5 goals and in 5 games, it was total goals over 1.5 goals. The average number of the overall match corners (for/against) per game is 8.83.
Both teams scored in 2 out of 6 Liverpool league games this season. In 4 games, it was total goals over 2.5 goals and in 5 games, it was total goals over 1.5 goals. The average number of the overall match corners (for/against) per game is 10.1.

Chelsea F.C. vs. Liverpool F.C. Prediction

Our prediction is that Chelsea will achieve a minimal success, inspired by their victory over Liverpool in the midweek match.
Chelsea – Liverpool 1 (2.80 @ bet365)
Chelsea – Liverpool 1 handicap Chelsea -1
Chelsea – Liverpool X (4.50 @ bet365)

Southampton, on the other hand, started in a mediocre way, earning 5 points from 5 matches. The Saints struggled last season and were in the relegation battle while Liverpool played the Champions League Final. The expectations this year are that Liverpool will contend the Premier League title and teams like Southampton should not be a hindrance.

Liverpool vs. Southampton Odds

5 straight wins with just two goals conceded – that’s what Liverpool fans believe – their season and their first Premier League in this format of the tournament will be.
Not a surprise, Liverpool are a bookmakers’ favourite with 1.20 to win. However, what is an even more ambitious bet is Liverpool to win first half and the match.
Liverpool HT/FT win – 1.66

Liverpool vs. Southampton Head to Head

Liverpool are famous for regularly buying Southampton players and have not lost to them 3 matches in a row with a goalless draw back in May 2017 and two wins in November 2017 and February 2018 (3-0 and 2-0).
Liverpool have not lost in 10 successive matches while Saints’ streak is just three matches in all competitions (including 1-0 win over Brighton in EFL).
Liverpool were the first team to score in their past 9 matches and have won at HT in their past 8 matches.

Liverpool vs. Southampton News

Liverpool have defeated PSG at Anfield on Tuesday in a 3-2 thriller which gained them additional confidence.
Despite the fact Lovren and Oxlade-Chamberlain will miss the match, Firmino is likely to play which will provide Liverpool with additional fire power.
Southampton have no key players to miss the match, with Shane Long likely to play.

Liverpool vs. Southampton Predictions

A win for Liverool and nothing else is what everyone would expect. So we are, but the odds of just 1.20 make the bet not all that attractive.
With Liverpool being the host and having conceded just 2 goals in 5 Premier League games, it is unlikely for Southampton to score.
Liverpool win and clean sheet – 1.90

Liverpool have reportedly decided against the potential departure of goalkeeper Simon Mignolet before the European transfer window closes this weekend. The Belgium international has repeatedly highlighted his ambition to pursue a fresh challenge but the Reds now appear unlikely to heed to his demand.
According to The Guardian, the Merseyside giants have no plans of offloading Mignolet after they recently sanctioned the loan departure of Loris Karius to Besiktas. Surprisingly, the Black Eagles were initially interested in landing Mignolet from Anfield but a deal could not materialise with the club’s hierarchy having wanted the permanent exit of the former Sunderland man.
Meanwhile, Serie A side Napoli are also deemed to have expressed an interest in the Belgian shot-stopper but their temporary approach was likewise rebuffed before they decided to sign David Ospina on an initial season-long loan from Arsenal.
Mignolet served as the Reds’ first-choice goalkeeper between 2013 and 2017 but his importance reduced during the second half of the previous campaign after he dropped a clanger during a thrilling 3-3 Premier League draw versus Arsenal.
Thereafter, Karius jumped ahead of him in the pecking order to cement the number one role but his fate was likewise sealed after a unforgettable double blunder during the 3-1 Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid.
Karius thereafter tried to make amends whilst starting regularly during pre-season but his performances were far from impressive as he made the headlines for further mistakes between the sticks.
At present, Mignolet remains the Reds’ number two behind summer signing Alisson Becker and the Belgian may not expect any gametime with the club until their League Cup campaign begins following the international break.
Until then, the £60,000-a-week goalkeeper may need to bide his time in the substitutes’ bench and this is sure to raise frustration, given he has been declined a temporary exit to revive his flagging club career.

The Estonia international was largely a back-up player during his previous two seasons with the Reds and he has now been offered the opportunity to pursue a fresh challenge in his career.
According to Sky Sports News, the Reds have parted ways with the £55,000-a-week defender on a permanent basis after agreeing on a fee in the region of £2m with Cagliari. Judging by his age, Klavan was indeed a surprise signing when he arrived from Augsburg couple of years ago and though, he was normally a back-up player, he managed to rack over 50 appearances for the club across all competitions.
Meanwhile, with the departure of Klavan, the Reds have just one recognised centre-back in the form of Virgil van Dijk with Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip recovering from short-term injuries but Klopp has nevertheless stressed that he is content with the options at hand for the ongoing campaign.
Alongside Van Dijk, Joe Gomez had done a credible job in the past and Klopp is confident that the Englishman can step up his game despite his recent injury doubles. Apart from Gomez, the German tactician has talked up Fabinho and club graduate Nathaniel Phillips slotting into the central defensive positions if required and this appears to have influenced the decision to offload Klavan this month.
Liverpool begun the season with a rather comfortable win over West Ham United as they beat them by a 4-0 scoreline but they can expect a much difficult encounter against Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace when they face them at Selhurst Park on Monday. Unlike other teams, the Eagles have played with a positive attacking mindset whenever sides have visited their homeground and the Reds may have to withstand the early threat particularly from Wilfred Zaha.

Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has been associated with a shock switch to Barcelona before next month’s transfer deadline. The Belgium international has recently become the Reds’ third-choice shot-stopper behind Alisson Becker and Loris Karius and this has urged him to pursue a fresh challenge during the ongoing transfer window.
According to Marca, the Belgian could be offered a surprise move to Barcelona this summer with the Catalan giants weighing up a replacement for Jasper Cillessen. The Dutchman has done a credible job over the past two seasons where he has played second fiddle to Marc-Ander Ter Stegen but he is supposedly eyeing a summer departure in order to enhance his prospects of regular first-team football.
Looking at Barcelona’s stature, any shot-stopper would unquestionably find it hard to turn down a move but Mignolet may not be overly excited, considering he would only take up the back-up role. As such, the 30-year-old may evaluate his options in the coming weeks with Besiktas of late emerging as a probable destination for his services.
The Black Eagles have most-recently sanctioned the sale of first-choice goalkeeper Fabri to Premier League newcomers Fulham and The Sun suggests that Mignolet has emerged as their prime target for the number one role, though a transfer fee remains to be struck with the Merseyside giants.
Mignolet has been with Liverpool since the summer of 2013 when he made the switch from Sunderland. He has since enjoyed a mixed reception among the supporters amid his tendency to make occasional mistakes and this appears to have eventually cost him a regular berth between the sticks.
As things stand, Mignolet has three more years left on his £60,000-a-week contract with the Reds and the Belgian’s departure could be delayed until the Reds’ asking price is met. Klopp’s side accepted a £12.5m fee for the recent sale of Danny Ward to Leicester City and they may demand something similar to part ways with the Belgian shot-stopper.

The 25-year-old has arrived at Anfield after a wonderful 2017/18 campaign with AS Roma, who managed to reach the Champions League semi-final for the first time in three decades.
Earlier this month, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp had given an indication that he could stick with Loris Karius for the upcoming campaign despite the German being guilty of making calamitous blunders during the Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid last season.
Shortly after his statement, however, Karius dropped another clanger in a 3-2 pre-season friendly win over Tranmere Rovers and this may have driven the club’s ambition to lure Alisson to Anfield.
With the arrival of Alisson, the Reds have spent nearly £170m in the transfer window with the pre-agreement for Naby Keita included and this should pretty much sum up their business for the summer.
Liverpool possessed the best-performing frontline in Europe last term as the attacking trident of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane scored nearly 100 goals between them and they should fancy their chances of competing for the title this season with the right start.
Unlike some of their direct rivals, the Reds have got a relatively easier looking schedule with four winnable games from the off and the perfect start would put them in a strong position before a period of four matches where they are due to tackle Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Manchester City.
Over the years, the Merseyside outfit have possessed a weakness in one or the other department which has hampered their Premier League aspirations but the current squad set up by Jurgen Klopp appears genuinely balanced for a title push, provided they can manage to avoid any long-term injuries.

The 26-year-old has penned a five-year deal with the Merseyside giants after they decided to trigger the relegation break clause written into his Potters contract.
The Switzerland international is presently on a vacation after his exploits for his national team at the World Cup but manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that the attacker would be reporting for pre-season duty during the middle phase of their United States tour.
Aside from Shaqiri, the likes of Fabinho and Naby Keita have joined the Reds during the ongoing transfer window and the midfield pair have already been actively participating in the opening stages of their pre-season.
The Reds have been taking calculated measures to bolster their squad during the summer and the next few weeks could give a fair reflection whether they are further plans to bolster the squad ahead of next season.
The goalkeeping department has particularly been a cause for concern with Loris Karius dropping another clanger during the recent 3-2 friendly win over Tranmere Rovers but the Reds have yet to make a formal approach for a new shot-stopper.
AS Roma’s Alisson Becker has regularly been highlighted as a prime target for the Reds this summer, but so far, the club have not shown to acquire his services from the Giallorossi.
Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see whether the Reds could revive their interest in signing Lyon captain Nabil Fekir after their proposed move was scuppered prior to the World Cup.
Back then, the Frenchman had seemingly been on the verge of joining the Reds but the move was cancelled at the final hurdle after the Merseyside giants tried to re-negotiate the fee which Lyon were not pleased about.
Fekir had been earmarked as the perfect replacement for the departed Philippe Coutinho in the club’s ranks but the Reds were reluctant to pay the initially agreed £53m sum amid the previous injury concerns over his right knee.

The France international was heavily tipped to join the Merseyside giants prior to the summer World Cup but the potential agreement has now been cancelled, according to Les Gones’ official website.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have already done their initial business for the summer with the announcement of Fabinho’s arrival from AS Monaco but unfortunately, they have been unable to get through a deal for Fekir.
The Frenchman is understood to have undergone a medical, agreed terms and had an introductory video with the Merseyside outfit but the club appear to have doubted their very own pursuit at the 11th hour.
As per The Mirror, the Reds were said to be concerned over the Frenchman’s injury concerns over his right knee and this prompted them to re-negotiate a lesser transfer sum which did not impress Les Gones.
Keeping this in regard, Les Gones have now made an official statement to confirm that Fekir won’t be making the move to Anfield this summer and they have gone to the extent of suggesting that the attacker will stay put with them for the next campaign.
Despite the announcement, Liverpool could remain optimistic over a deal for the Frenchman considering they found themselves in a similar position with Virgil van Dijk 12 months ago.
Back then, the Reds had to pull out of the pursuit of Southampton defender Van Dijk following an illegal approach from Klopp but they managed to sign the Dutchman six months later where they paid a club-record £75m fee for his services.
Liverpool have been fairly active since the resumption of the transfer window and they have already recruited Fabinho from AS Monaco. Any fresh negotiations for Fekir, however, may only begin following the summer World Cup.

The Belgium international has just a year remaining on his Blues deal and talks over an extension appear to have reached an impasse.
According to Don Balon, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is aware of the need to strengthen the goalkeeping department this summer and this could see him make an approach to lure Courtois from Stamford Bridge.
However, long-term admirers Los Blancos are also understood to be in the hunt for the keeper owing to his preference to return to Madrid, and the Merseyside outfit may just be able to get one over the European champions, if everything goes to plan.
The Reds have not possessed a truly class goalkeeper since the days of Pepe Reina and the likes of Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius have since flattered to deceive with blunders every now and then.
More so, Karius had to face the wrath of the club’s supporters following the Champions League final after the German was at fault for two calamitous errors which cost the team dearly in a 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid.
Since the end of the season, Liverpool have placed a genuine emphasis on bolstering their weak links and the recent signing of Fabinho would certainly add more steel to the midfield where Naby Keita is also expected to be involved next season.
The Merseyside giants secured a pre-agreement with RB Leipzig for the Guinea international last summer and the Reds are expected to confirm his official arrival when the international transfer window reopens.
Meanwhile, the arrival of a new shot-stopper this summer could witness the departure of Simon Mignolet, who was frustrated with a bench role towards the backend of the campaign.
There has been no clear interest in the former Sunderland man but the Belgian would surely not want to play as the second or third-choice goalkeeper to Courtois, who already runs the rule over him at the international level.
