Manchester duo interested in signing Premier League midfielder

Manchester City and Manchester United are reportedly monitoring the development of Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves with a view to a future approach for his signature.

Burnley acquire Manchester City goalkeeper for £3.5m

Burnley have announced the signing of goalkeeper Joe Hart from Manchester City for a reported fee of around £3.5m. Manchester City have completed their first signing of the summer transfer window with Riyad Mahrez having joined them from Leicester City on a club-record deal worth £60m. The Algeria international was initially tipped to join the Citizens during the backend of the previous campaign but Pep Guardiola’s side could not come to terms with the Foxes’ valuation.
However, six months later, both sides have eventually reach an agreement with the Algerian putting pen-to-paper on a five-year contract. Aside from Mahrez, the Premier League holders could make another signing during the summer with Guardiola keen on bolstering the heart of the midfield. The departure of club legend Yaya Toure has left a potential void to cover for next term but so far, City have not come close to acquiring any of their transfer targets.
Earlier last month, Napoli’s Jorginho had been highlighted as the prime option to bolster the centre of the park but a potential deal for the Italian appears to have stalled amid the Citizens’ reluctance to match the player’s £57m price tag.
As such, there has been talk of Chelsea potentially hijacking the deal and the Blues have supposedly begun negotiations to sign the midfielder whilst also negotiating the release of their former manager Maurizio Sarri from his contract.

West Bromwich Albion defender Jonny Evans is reportedly said to prefer a move to Manchester City ahead of Arsenal during this summer’s transfer window. According to The Mirror, the 30-year-old is expected to pursue a fresh challenge in the Premier League next term with the Baggies confined towards dropping into the Championship. The club are currently rockbottom of the league standings with 21 points, and they face a near improbable task of beating the drop with a 10-point deficit and just five games remaining in the season.
As per the report, Evans could be pursued for a bargain price of just £3m via a relegation relegation clause on his contract, and this may likely to revive the interest from both Arsenal and Manchester City during the off-season.
However, Evans is understood to have a preference for the Citizens, in particular, as he does not relocate from the North-West where he is presently based. The report is likely to present a transfer blow for Arsene Wenger’s side, who are expected to bolster their central defensive department prior to the start of the next campaign. Per Mertesacker’s retirement would no doubt leave a void to fill, but aside from this, there are further concerns regarding the inconsistency of Shkodran Mustafi.
The Germany international has not been able to win over the supporters with his performances of late, and the north London club are likely to recruit at least one renowned centre-back in order to improve the solidity within their defensive ranks.

Antonio Valencia – Needlessly have away a first-half opened which resulted in City’s opener. However, he was thereafter much comfortable with his positioning, whilst limiting the threat of Leroy Sane – 6.5/10
Eric Bailly – The Ivorian struggled to adjust to the pace of the City game during the first period, but came out after the break with a different mentality which worked to United’s benefit – 6/10
Chris Smalling – Poor with his marking of Vincent Kompany prior to City’s opening goal. However, he managed to resurrect himself with the United faithful with a powerful match-winning header – 7/10
Ashley Young – Struggling initially with the pace of Raheem Sterling on the right. Gained confidence as the game went on, and was fortuitous to have not conceded a penalty for his lunging challenge on Aguero – 6/10
Nemanja Matic – The Serbian had a rather poor display in the first-half as he struggled to get his passing game going. After the break, he moved the ball with better intent and this allowed Pogba to influence play higher up the field – 7/10
Ander Herrera – The Spaniard was tasked with the job of limiting David Silva’s movement through the game. Worked tenaciously in the derby, and provided a brilliant assist for Pogba’s opener – 7.5/10
Paul Pogba – Following a dismal first-half display, the Frenchman stepped up to change the complexion of the game. Pogba scored two goals in the space of 97 seconds, and this turned the tide in United’s favour – 8/10
Jesse Lingard – Probably one on his average displays in a long while. Lingard was nearly non-existent during the first half, and could not capitalise on his positional advantage in the second – 5.5/10
Alexis Sanchez – The Chilean appeared on course for another naive display, before turning things around. During the second period, Sanchez offered an excellent lobbed assist for United’s equaliser before another precise delivery for Smalling’s winner – 7.5/10
Romelu Lukaku – Lukaku has been so pleasing to the eye of late, but he was disappointing in the derby. Struggled to gain possession from the long-balls but his commitment and attitude remained positive through the match – 6.5/10

Following the international break, the Chilean bagged only his second United goal versus Swansea, and he continued his good run of form with another strong second-half display against City. Sanchez delivered a wonderful delivery for Pogba’s second goal on the day, and his free-kick for Chris Smalling’s winner was equally impressive as City’s backline were caught absent-minded.
David de Gea’s match-defining impact: The Spain international has made a string of spectacular saves for United over the course of the campaign, and this has been one of the key reasons behind their second position in the standings. De Gea’s showing at Arsenal, especially, has been the highlight of the season with 14 saves, but the fans will have loved his impact versus City. With United 3-2 ahead, Sergio Aguero had the perfect opportunity to equalise with a header, but De Gea denied him from point-blank range.
