Liverpool will face Man City on Anfield this Sunday in a direct battle for the Premier League leadership. Despite being early in the season, the tie can be decisive for the title in May and none of the teams will risk to lose it.
Based on the recent matches between the two sides, we can expect another derby with lots of goals and high-quality football.

Liverpool F.C. vs. Manchester City F.C. News

Both teams will take part in the Champions League this week. Man City hosts Hoffenheim on the 2nd of October while Liverpool travels to Naples on the 3rd.
Divock Origi and Virgil van Dijk will miss the match for Liverpool and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is not expected to return into action, either. Adam Lallana might be missing, too.
Despite having a longer bench, Man City will surely feel the absence of Kevin De Bruyne. Benjamin Mendy, Claudio Bravo, Eliaquim Mangala, and Philippe Sandler will also miss the match.

Liverpool F.C. vs. Manchester City F.C. Head to Head

Each of the last 5 matches between the teams in all competitions ended with more than 2.5 goals scored and Liverpool won 4 of them. This streak started right after Man City destroyed Liverpool 5-0 at Etihad in September 2017.
Man City could not keep a clean sheet in 4 successive games against Liverpool.
Both teams come into the match with 6 wins and a draw, heading the PL table with Man City on top with a better goal difference.

Liverpool F.C. vs. Manchester City F.C. Betting Tips

Liverpool have not lost a Premier League home game in 22 matches.
Liverpool scored 2 or more goals in 29 out of their last 39 home games in all competitions.
Man City have not lost in 13 successive Premier League matches.
Man City managed to score at least 1 goal in their last 11 Premier League away games.

Liverpool F.C. vs. Manchester City F.C. Prediction

A match which can go three-way. What is sure – neither of the opponents would like to lose and both teams will try to win with attacking and attractive football. Bookmakers give a small advantage to Liverpool as they are hosts but that will not be the decisive factor.
The almost sure bet is both teams to score and it is priced at 1.50. Over 2.5 goals in the match will not come as a surprise but the ones willing to risk it might bet on over 3.5 goals.
While Man City started with big expectations but unexpectedly lost points to Wolves, Cardiff come with 3 straight defeats.

Cardiff City vs. Manchester City Odds

Man City is a clear favourite not only for the match but for the title, too. Despite the match with Lyon, no one really expects Man City to lose points against Cardiff and that’s the most reasonable outcome. As City are known for scoring goals, a handicap comes handy.
Man City -2,-2.5 win – 1.980

Cardiff City vs. Manchester City Head to Head

The teams have played against each other just three times in recent years. Back in 2013, Cardiff won the tie with 3-2. Manchester City won the next tie in 2014 with 4-2 along with the following FA Cup tie in 2018 with 2-0.
Cardiff City haven’t won the past seven games in all competitions while Man City haven’t lost 7 games in a row.
Cardiff City have conceded in each of the three games against Manchester City.

Cardiff City vs Manchester City News

Man City play Lyon on Wednesday and the team should have enough time to recover for the clash with Cardiff.
Cardiff City have no major players missing the match.
Manchester City, on the other hand, will be without Danilo, Mangala, and De Bruyne.
The good news for City is Sterling is likely to be fully fit for the clash.

Cardiff City vs. Manchester City Prediction

Another year in which Manchester City are title contenders. Known for their attractive play, anything different than 3 points will be a massive surprise for both fans and bookmakers.
Man City have scored 14 goals in 5 games and will be motivated to get closer to Liverpool in the title race.
Having the facts in hand, a goal prior 23rd minute is viable bet.
Goal prior the 23rd minute – 1.83

Manchester City and Manchester United are reportedly monitoring the development of Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves with a view to a future approach for his signature.
The Portuguese footballer made the shock move to Wolves last summer after they paid a Championship-record fee for his services and he was thereafter influential towards their promotion to the top-flight.
Neves was thereon linked with a potential big-money move elsewhere but the midfielder decided to stay put with the west Midlands outfit after he was rewarded with a fresh five-year contract on weekly wages of around (Birmingham Mail) £50,000-a-week.
According to Goal.com, Pep Guardiola’s side are said to have made an approach for Neves during the dying stages of the Premier League transfer window but their efforts vent in vain with Wolves reluctant to lose the play on the eve of their season opener.
As such, the Premier League holders are supposedly planning a fresh approach for either January or next summer but Guardiola fears that Manchester United could hijack the move after knowing of their transfer interest,
Neves’ agent Jorge Mendes has also represented United boss Jose Mourinho for the long-term and Goal suggests that the Portuguese tactician would fancy his fellow countrymen making the switch to Old Trafford.
City are seemingly desperate for a new central midfielder after failing in their pursuit of Jorginho during the summer and Guardiola considers Neves as the perfect fit to adjust to his brand of football at the Etihad Stadium.
Nevertheless, the Mancunian giants can take things for granted with United anymore, given they were beaten to the signings of Alexis Sanchez and Fred in each of the previous two summer transfer windows.
The reigning English champions were also taught a lesson for delaying their agreement to sign Jorginho from Napoli this summer after Chelsea pounced on his signature with the better deal on the table.

Burnley have announced the signing of goalkeeper Joe Hart from Manchester City for a reported fee of around £3.5m. The England international had plyed his trade on loan for Torino and West Ham United respectively over the past two seasons but he has now taken the option to pursue a fresh challenge after knowing that he could not break into the matchday squad under Citizens boss Pep Guardiola.
At the start of pre-season, Hart was a regular feature for the reigning Premier League champions but he was nevertheless aware that he would remain the third-choice shot-stopper. As such, when the campaign begun with the Community Shield versus Chelsea, he was excluded from the matchday squad, he has not taken much time thereafter to join the Clarets.
At present, both Nick Pope (dislocated shoulder) and Tom Heaton (calf) remain on the sidelines and this should witness Hart become the first-choice ahead of Anders Lindegaard, who was called into action during both legs of the Europa League second round play-off versus Aberdeen.
Burnley have been criticised for their restricted spending in the transfer window in recent summers but Sean Dyche appears content to rather have a settled combination with not much tinkering within the squad. Nonetheless, they have sought to bolster the strikeforce with the recent recruitment of Matej Vydra from Derby County and the Czech is set to compete with Chris Wood, Ashley Barnes and Sam Vokes for the centre-forward positions.
Dyche’s men start their Premier League campaign with an away trip to Southampton but before that, they are scheduled to face Istanbul Basaksehir in the Europa League third-round play-off first leg where Hart should make his competitive debut. Aside from him, centre-back Ben Gibson could also make his bow for the Lancashire outfit after making his switch from Middlesbrough earlier in the month.

The Algeria international was initially tipped to join the Citizens during the backend of the previous campaign but Pep Guardiola’s side could not come to terms with the Foxes’ valuation.
However, six months later, both sides have eventually reach an agreement with the Algerian putting pen-to-paper on a five-year contract. City have now lost any attack-minded players when compared to the previous campaign but the arrival of Mahrez provides the team with an added depth as they defend their title next season.

Aside from Mahrez, the Premier League holders could make another signing during the summer with Guardiola keen on bolstering the heart of the midfield. The departure of club legend Yaya Toure has left a potential void to cover for next term but so far, City have not come close to acquiring any of their transfer targets.
Earlier last month, Napoli’s Jorginho had been highlighted as the prime option to bolster the centre of the park but a potential deal for the Italian appears to have stalled amid the Citizens’ reluctance to match the player’s £57m price tag.
As such, there has been talk of Chelsea potentially hijacking the deal and the Blues have supposedly begun negotiations to sign the midfielder whilst also negotiating the release of their former manager Maurizio Sarri from his contract.
Manchester City are scheduled to travel for their pre-season tour of the United States this weekend and Guardiola will be hoping that a new signing is finalised during their stay in order to acclimatise the recruit to the club’s tactical setup.

West Bromwich Albion defender Jonny Evans is reportedly said to prefer a move to Manchester City ahead of Arsenal during this summer’s transfer window. The Northern Irishman attracted interest from the Premier League giants in January, but neither managed to reach a transfer agreement with the west Midlands club.
According to The Mirror, the 30-year-old is expected to pursue a fresh challenge in the Premier League next term with the Baggies confined towards dropping into the Championship. The club are currently rockbottom of the league standings with 21 points, and they face a near improbable task of beating the drop with a 10-point deficit and just five games remaining in the season.
As per the report, Evans could be pursued for a bargain price of just £3m via a relegation relegation clause on his contract, and this may likely to revive the interest from both Arsenal and Manchester City during the off-season.
However, Evans is understood to have a preference for the Citizens, in particular, as he does not relocate from the North-West where he is presently based. City pursued Aymeric Laporte from Athletic Bilbao to reinforce their backline in January, but this does not appear to have diminished Evans’ interest, as per The Mirror.
The report is likely to present a transfer blow for Arsene Wenger’s side, who are expected to bolster their central defensive department prior to the start of the next campaign. Per Mertesacker’s retirement would no doubt leave a void to fill, but aside from this, there are further concerns regarding the inconsistency of Shkodran Mustafi.
The Germany international has not been able to win over the supporters with his performances of late, and the north London club are likely to recruit at least one renowned centre-back in order to improve the solidity within their defensive ranks.
Evans, who is currently contracted to West Bromwich Albion until June 2019, could make his comeback from a knee injury on Sunday when the Baggies make the trip north to face ex-club Manchester United at Old Trafford. The skipper has missed the previous three league games for the bottom side.

Manchester City entertain Liverpool in the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday night. The Citizens suffered a rather disappointing 3-0 defeat on the road at Anfield last week, and they now need to produce a huge performance at the Etihad Stadium in order to overturn the deficit.
What happened over the weekend?
City suffered defeats in back-to-back games for the first time this term as they succumbed to a 3-2 derby defeat at the hands of cross-town rivals Manchester United. Pep Guardiola’s side were at one stage holding a comfortable 2-0 lead, but they appeared to switch off in the second-half where United pounced with three goals in the space of 16 minutes. Not only did the defeat hamper the momentum, but the faithful had to witness the title celebrations being prolonged for another week at the least.
Liverpool, on the other side, played out a 0-0 draw against Everton in the Merseyside derby on Saturday. Like Manchester City, the Reds boss Jurgen Klopp decided to make five changes to the starting lineup, and this reduced their usual attacking threat. As a result, the Toffees looked the most likely to find the scoresheet, and they will have cursed themselves after Cenk Tosun, Idrissa Gueye and Dominic Calvert-Lewin all came within the cusp of ending the club’s eight-year wait for a win in the derby.
Players to watch for:
Sergio Aguero – Manchester City: The Argentine made his return from a knee injury as a 76th-minute substitute in the Manchester derby. Aguero had not witnessed first-team action for more than a month, and he nearly scored the equaliser for City, barring David de Gea’s heroics. Aguero is still waiting for his 200th goal in the club’s shirt, and his involvement could be key on Tuesday, considering City wasted plenty of chances versus United. Raheem Stertling, in particular, was guilty of missing two clear-cut opportunities during the first-half, which should have killed the game.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – Liverpool: The ‘Ox’ did not have much of an influence on the Merseyside derby, but prior to that, he produced another top-notch performance versus Guardiola’s men. Oxlade-Chamberlain has grown from strength-to-strength since his arrival at Anfield last summer, and his desire to make tireless runs from the midfield is something City need to take care of. The Englishman has the ability to test the opposition goalkeeper from long range, and he popped up with a stellar 25-yard strike during the Champions League quarter-final first leg.
Prediction:
Following City’s defeat at Anfield, they face an uphill task of making the Champions League semi-final. The hosts should win the game but they may not necessarily clinch the tie with Liverpool more than capable of scoring on their travels.
Manchester City 3-1 Liverpool

Vincent Kompany and Ilkay Gundogan handed a 2-0 advantage for City at the break, but a brace from Paul Pogba and a Chris Smalling strike ensured a strong second-half showing from Jose Mourinho’s men.

Player Ratings:
David de Gea – The Spain international was partially at fault for City’s second goal of the game, but made up for it with another point-blank save to deny Sergio Aguero late on – 7/10
Antonio Valencia – Needlessly have away a first-half opened which resulted in City’s opener. However, he was thereafter much comfortable with his positioning, whilst limiting the threat of Leroy Sane – 6.5/10
Eric Bailly – The Ivorian struggled to adjust to the pace of the City game during the first period, but came out after the break with a different mentality which worked to United’s benefit – 6/10
Chris Smalling – Poor with his marking of Vincent Kompany prior to City’s opening goal. However, he managed to resurrect himself with the United faithful with a powerful match-winning header – 7/10
Ashley Young – Struggling initially with the pace of Raheem Sterling on the right. Gained confidence as the game went on, and was fortuitous to have not conceded a penalty for his lunging challenge on Aguero – 6/10
Nemanja Matic – The Serbian had a rather poor display in the first-half as he struggled to get his passing game going. After the break, he moved the ball with better intent and this allowed Pogba to influence play higher up the field – 7/10
Ander Herrera – The Spaniard was tasked with the job of limiting David Silva’s movement through the game. Worked tenaciously in the derby, and provided a brilliant assist for Pogba’s opener – 7.5/10
Paul Pogba – Following a dismal first-half display, the Frenchman stepped up to change the complexion of the game. Pogba scored two goals in the space of 97 seconds, and this turned the tide in United’s favour – 8/10
Jesse Lingard – Probably one on his average displays in a long while. Lingard was nearly non-existent during the first half, and could not capitalise on his positional advantage in the second – 5.5/10
Alexis Sanchez – The Chilean appeared on course for another naive display, before turning things around. During the second period, Sanchez offered an excellent lobbed assist for United’s equaliser before another precise delivery for Smalling’s winner – 7.5/10
Romelu Lukaku – Lukaku has been so pleasing to the eye of late, but he was disappointing in the derby. Struggled to gain possession from the long-balls but his commitment and attitude remained positive through the match – 6.5/10
Substitutes:
Marcus Rashford, Scott McTominay

The Citizens were cruising at the break with a 2-0 advantage, but Jose Mourinho’s side came up with an astonishing comeback to win the bragging rights at the Etihad Stadium.

Three things we learned:
Jose Mourinho delivers once more: The Portuguese tactician has come for criticism for his defensive-minded approach against the top-six, and the ploy was similar against City, where they struggled to gain control during the first period. However, following the interval, the United players came with a renewed vigour, and they managed to pounce on a couple of defensive errors from the City defence. Mourinho has not got much credit for United’s second position, but he has now masterminded victories over each of their top-six rivals this season, including Arsenal and City on the road.
Alexis Sanchez reviving his old form: Sanchez looked lost during the initial months at Old Trafford with many questioning his ability to adjust to United’s style of play. Following the international break, the Chilean bagged only his second United goal versus Swansea, and he continued his good run of form with another strong second-half display against City. Sanchez delivered a wonderful delivery for Pogba’s second goal on the day, and his free-kick for Chris Smalling’s winner was equally impressive as City’s backline were caught absent-minded.
David de Gea’s match-defining impact: The Spain international has made a string of spectacular saves for United over the course of the campaign, and this has been one of the key reasons behind their second position in the standings. De Gea’s showing at Arsenal, especially, has been the highlight of the season with 14 saves, but the fans will have loved his impact versus City. With United 3-2 ahead, Sergio Aguero had the perfect opportunity to equalise with a header, but De Gea denied him from point-blank range. The Argentine’s wait for a landmark 200th goal in the City colours continues.

Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho have provided an update on the Manchester City and Manchester United squads respectively ahead of tomorrow’s cross-town derby at the Etihad Stadium. The Citizens require a victory to guarantee themselves of the league title, but the Red Devils will hope to make it difficult for their arch rivals.

Injury Update:
Manchester City:
Speaking ahead of the Manchester derby, Guardiola confirmed that Sergio Aguero has returned to training, but his participation could depend on a late fitness test. The Argentine has been sidelined with a knee injury for over a month, and his previous appearance in a competitive game came in a 1-0 triumph over Chelsea on March 4. Aside from this, Benjamin Mendy remains the sole long-term absentee as he continues to build up his fitness following an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
Manchester United:
On the contrary, Jose Mourinho has a nearly full-strength to work with for the derby. United have had numerous midfield and defensive players sidelined with injuries over the course of the season, and the Portuguese will be pleased to have the entire squad to choose from, barring Sergio Romero. Romero sustained a knee issue during a collision with Diego Costa in an international friendly between Argentina and Spain, and Mourinho has revealed that the shot-stopper would be out for a ‘few weeks’
Prediction:
Comparing the regular starting XIs of both teams, Manchester City should have too much for their arch-rivals especially on their home turf. However, Guardiola is likely to rotate the squad with a view to the Champions League quarter-final second-leg versus Liverpool, and this may make for a tighter affair. Still, City have plenty of ammunition within the ranks to influence the result, and Mourinho’s defensive approach on the road to the top-six may come to haunt him – Manchester City 2-1 Manchester United.
