The Spain international joined the Blues from Fiorentina less than two years ago and he has since established himself as the first-choice on the left side of the backline.
According to Spanish publication AS, the west London giants could sanction the sale of Alonso before the Spanish transfer deadline with Atletico among the main contenders for his signature.
The Europa League holders are presently expecting the departure of Felipe Luis with Paris Saint-Germain leading the hunt for his signature and this has urged manager Diego Simeone to look into a deal for Alonso, who was previously in the ranks of Real Madrid.
Nonetheless, the move does not assure Alonso of regular gametime unlike at Stamford Bridge, given Lucas Hernandez has certainly cemented the left-back position after starring for France during their World Cup triumph.
Alonso has made a strong start to the ongoing season with a goal and an assist from the opening two league matches and AS suggests that the Blues are not desperate to offload his services unless their £54m price tag is matched.
As such, there appears only a minute possibility that the Spaniard may make way from Stamford Bridge, given Atleti would not want to be spending massive sums on a player, who may only command a deputy role at the beginning.
Chelsea have started the campaign with back-to-back league triumphs over Huddersfield Town and Arsenal and the latter of those games witnessed Alonso score the winning goal in a 3-2 victory.
Up next, the Blues make the trip to Newcastle United for a Sunday league meeting and Alonso and co. may have to produce their best performance on the day, given the club have struggled at St James’ Park with no victories in the previous five visits.

Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann has ended the ongoing speculation over his future by confirming his intention to stay with the Madrid giants. The France international had been earmarked as the prime attacking target for Barcelona for the transfer window but he has now decided to stay put in the Spanish capital.
Griezmann had remained mum over his club future over the past few weeks but on Wednesday, the Frenchman confirmed that he would be releasing a video following the World Cup opener which would clarify his future. As expected, there were no surprises in store and much to the frustration of the neutrals, the 27-year-old confirmed that he would be remaining at Atleti for the 2018/19 campaign.

Mi afición, mi equipo, MI CASA! @atleti ?⚪?

My fans, my team, MY HOME!!! @atletienglish ?⚪? pic.twitter.com/ByD8Cju5Yb

— Antoine Griezmann (@AntoGriezmann) June 14, 2018

The Frenchman’s decision is expected to come as a huge positive for the club’s faithful, who were concerned that they could lose one of their prized assets in the transfer window. Meanwhile, the Capital outfit have already shown their ambition in the transfer market after reaching a preliminary agreement for Monaco’s Thomas Lemar and the arrival of the Frenchman could transform Atleti into genuine title-challengers next season.
Under Diego Simeone, the Madrid giants have tended to possess one of the best defensive records across Europe’s top-five leagues but their concerns have lied on the offensive side of their game, where they have not been able to match the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Both the Blaugrana and Los Blancos have averaged at least two goals per game over the past few seasons and this is something which Atleti have not come close to, though the arrival of Lemar may form a splendid attacking trident alongside Griezmann and Diego Costa. Atleti ended the previous season on a high by lifting the Europa League title ahead of Marseille and they now have an European Super Cup final scheduled against Real Madrid on August 15.

Atletico Madrid booked their place in the Europa League final after they secured a 2-1 aggregate triumph over Premier League side Arsenal. The Spanish giants already had an away goal advantage after their 1-1 draw at the Emirates and they followed it up with a 1-0 home victory. Diego Costa scored a first-half winner for the hosts.

Three things we learned:
Diego Costa makes defining impact against Arsenal: The Spaniard has generally been the Gunners’ nemesis when they have tackled Chelsea in recent seasons and it was no different with Atleti. Right from the start, the striker imposed himself on the Gunners backline with his presence and he managed to use his physical strength to fend off Hector Bellerin prior to the goal. The Spaniard has now scored in back-to-back games against the Gunners and this includes last season’s FA Cup final, where he was on the losing side with the Blues.
Arsenal’s defence a letdown once more: Arsenal were once again nervous in their defence and they could have quite easily conceded more than on Thursday night, barring some last-ditch defending from Calum Chambers. The Englishman made a strong impression after coming on for injured skipper Koscielny but aside from him, the rest were a disappointment. Hector Bellerin was guilty of failing to track Costa prior to Atleti’s opener, and he was physically outclassed by the former Chelsea man. Surely, the new manager needs to rebuild the defence from scratch with a new leader.
Arsenal’s average showing in the attack front: Unlike at the Emirates, Arsenal looked far off from an attacking threat against Atleti. The Gunners had made several runs towards the opposition goal but they were let down by their inability to strike at the first attempt. Moreover, Bellerin and Monreal appeared to be neutralised with very few of their crosses approaching the feet of an Arsenal player in the box. The north Londoners had just one attempt on goal with Granit Xhaka’s hopeful long-range strike.

Atletico Madrid entertain Arsenal in the second leg of their Europa League semi-final tie on Thursday night. Diego Simeone’s side scored a vital away goal during the 1-1 draw at the Emirates last week and they can now bank on their home advantage to progress to their fifth European final in nine seasons.

Players to watch for:
Antoine Griezmann – Atletico Madrid: The Frenchman was kept quiet for vast periods of the first leg in north London but he eventually capitalised on a defensive error from Laurent Koscielny. The Gunners skipper took a little bit longer to clear the ball and Griezmann took the advantage of a lucky break to score the leveller for 10-man Atleti. Arsene Wenger’s side are in desperate need of an away goal in order to stay alive in the competition and this could play into Griezmann’s hands on the counter attack.
Alexandre Lacazette – Arsenal: Griezmann’s compatriot Alexandre Lacazette opened the scoring during the first leg of the semi-final and this took his tally to seven goals in as many games since his injury comeback. Like Griezmann, Lacazette did not feature for the Gunners over the weekend but he has plenty of work to do at the Wanda Metropolitano, where his team need to score at least once. Lacazette impressed with his physique and movement within the box against Atleti but he has to make amends on Thursday, having missed clear-cut opportunity early on at the Emirates.
Prediction:
Atletico Madrid have conceded just four goals at home over the course of their league campaign and they has contributed to clean sheets in each of their previous 11 games. Despite this, we are anticipating goals for both teams in this encounter with the Gunners, in particular, likely to give their all for their departing manager.
Atletico Madrid 2-2 Arsenal

Arsenal endured a frustrating evening against Atletico Madrid as they were held to a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final. Atleti found themselves down to 10 men within nine minutes but the Gunners could not effectively capitalise on the advantage at the Emirates Stadium.

Three things we learned:
Laurent Koscielny on the decline: The France international has been one of the Gunners’ most consistent defenders over the past eight years, but his performances this term have been far from impressive. The Frenchman was clearly at fault during a similar dominating display against Manchester United back in December and his positioning once again cost him with Antoine Griezmann pouncing with the away goal. Arsenal have not kept clean sheets in the previous five games in which Koscielny has featured and this is certainly a worrying stat for a player, who has regularly been handed the leadership duties.
Antoine Griezmann makes Arsenal pay: Arsenal were comfortably in control of the game after scoring via Alexandre Lacazette in the second period but a slice of luck for Griezmann allowed him to score a crucial leveller. Prior to the goal, Griezmann was assisted by a poor clearance from Koscielny and a slip from Shkodran Mustafi but the Frenchman maintained his composure to find the scoresheet unlike in his previous European game at Sporting. The goal is surely to have dampened the spirits of the Gunners’ players, who gave their very best to secure a positive result.
Alexandre Lacazette’s promising form: Lacazette has looked refreshed every since his return from a knee surgery earlier last month. The Frenchman had come into the game on the back of six goals in as many matches and he managed to deliver another strike with a wonderfully crafted header in the second period. Despite his dominating presence, the 26-year-old would surely be disappointed with his overall showing after he failed to make the most of a clear-cut opportunity, early in the first half.

Arsenal welcome Atletico Madrid to the Emirates Stadium for the first leg of their Europa League semi-final. The Gunners have been in a good vein of form over the past month and they will be aiming to make the most of their home fixture against Atleti, who are regarded as the favourites for the competition.

What happened over the weekend?
Arsene Wenger’s side returned to winning ways on Sunday as they secured a 4-1 triumph over West Ham United. The Hammers held the Gunners to a 1-1 scoreline until the 80th minute courtesy of Joe Hart’s brilliance but they eventually folded like a deck of cards. Alexandre Lacazette netted a brace for the north London giants.
Atletico Madrid, on the other hand, witnessed a second winless game on the bounce. The Spanish giants saw their away woes continue with a 3-0 defeat at Real Sociedad in midweek and this was followed up by a goalless stalemate against Real Betis at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Players to watch for:
Aaron Ramsey – Arsenal: The Welshman has picked up his form since his return from a groin problem in February. Ramsey has been the Gunners’ talisman during the knockout stages of the Champions League, and he has contributed four goals in as many appearances including a stellar back-flick goal versus AC Milan at the San Siro. With Mesut Ozil still struggling with an illness, the club are likely to be dependent on Ramsey to make his tireless runs into box against a solid-looking Atleti backline on most occasions.
Antoine Griezmann – Atletico Madrid: Unlike Ramsey, Griezmann plays much further ahead in the field but his influence can be equally matched to the Welshman. Griezmann has not looked at his fluent best during the course of the campaign but he has impressed in the Europa League with three strikes in five appearances. The Frenchman was guilty of missing a couple of clear-cut opportunities in the quarter-final second leg against Sporting and he can’t afford a similar display in north London.
Prediction:
Arsenal 3-1 Atletico Madrid

The north Londoners signed top players in the last two transfer windows but their performances have not been fruitful. The Gunners are currently 6th in the table and it looks highly unlikely that they will be able to finish in the top four.
As far as the transfers are concerned, Arsenal really need to sort out their back line by signing a top quality central defender in the summer transfer window. So far, in 27 league outings, they have already conceded 36 goals this season.
If the latest reports are anything to go by then Arsene Wenger wants to sign Uruguayan international and Atletico Madrid center half Jose Gimenez.
According to El Gol Digital, the French boss wants the club to make an effort to hire the services of the 23-year-old star, who has been a regular starter for the Rojiblancos this season.
So far, in the current campaign, the South American defender has featured in 26 games in all competitions, scored 2 goals and provided an assist as well.
The Spanish source have mentioned that it would not be easy for Arsenal to sign Gimenez because now, he is an important member of the team under the management of Diego Simeone. However, it is also stated that the player has got a release clause of €65million in his contract.
In your opinion, should Arsenal splash the cash to sign Jose Gimenez?

The Les Bleus playmaker is one of the best attackers in the world and Atletico will likely lose him next summer.
According to an exclusive report covered by the Sun, Griezmann was keen on moving to the Old Trafford club last summer but the move could not happen and Barca have now shown interest as well.
The British source have mentioned that the 26-year-old star was offered £290,000-a-week but now he would like to agree a mammoth deal worth £400,000-a-week ($28.2million-a-year) to snub Barca and secure Man Utd move.
In the current campaign, the former Real Socieded star has so far featured in 22 games for the Rojiblancos in all competitions, scored 8 goals and provided 6 assists.
At the moment, Manchester United’s record signing Paul Pogba is the highest earning player at the club, he earns £290,000-a-week and no player earns more than Jose Mourinho, who gets around £312,500-a-week (Star).
The Sun claim that the former Chelsea boss has lined up a move to sign Griezmann in the summer transfer window but should United agree to pay him £400,000-a-week?

The Reds needed to strengthen their back line and they have already lured Van Dijk this month. The Merseysiders are also looking to sign a new goalie because the likes of Karius and Mignolet have been inconsistent.
Two days back, Independent reported that Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak would be an ideal signing for Liverpool but other top clubs are also interested in him. In such a scenario, the Reds have also targeted Roma’s Alisson.
As far as the Slovenian international is concerned, Don Balon have talked about the reports in the English media and claimed that with PSG and other top clubs looking to sign the shot stopper, it is highly unlikely that he will head to Liverpool.
However, the Spanish source have mentioned that Klopp will still try to snap up the 25-year-old star, who is one of the best goalies in the world.
The former Benfica star kept 22 clean sheets in 26 appearances for the Portuguese side before moving to Atletico Madrid in 2014. This season, in 18 league games under Simeone, he has only conceded 8 goals and kept 11 clean sheets.
Oblak’s current contract with the Rojiblancos will expire in 2021 and it has a huge clause (AS) of 100 million euros (£89million).

If the latest reports in the media are anything to go by then the Red Devils are now favorites to sign the Les Bleus playmaker.
Atletico filed a complained against Barcelona for illegally tapping up Antoine and according to Mirror, the Spanish club are now ready to sell the £88million star to Manchester United.
Also Read: €50million Star open to Signing for Manchester United
The 26-year-old star is one of the best attacking players in the world and will largely improve Man Utd’s offene if he does end up moving to Old Trafford.
In the current campaign, the former Real Sociedad playmaker has featured in 19 games in all competitions and directly contributed in 12 goals (7 goals and 5 assists).
As per the provided Mirror link, even Real Madrid have been interested in signing Griezmann but Atletico would prefer to sell him abroad. Antoine is a huge Manchester United fan and Mourinho can unite him with compatriot Paul Pogba at the club.
We shall see how the transfer saga unfolds.
