The 9th Premier League round features another London derby. West Ham host Tottenham in a match which may be decisive for both teams’ season. While Tottenham try to secure the top 4 spot, West Ham have had a disappointing campaign so far.
An eventual win for any of the teams may change the route of their season and, as this is a derby, anything can happen.

West Ham United vs. Tottenham Hotspur F.C. News

West Ham could not continue their winning streak in the last round and lost to Brighton as guests. On the other hand, Tottenham managed to grab the points versus Cardiff after a disappointing 2-4 loss to Barcelona 3 days earlier.
Both teams have issues with injuries and suspensions but managers will do their best to find the right fits for the missing players.
Andry Caroll, Carlos Sanchez, Jack Wilshere, Javier Hernandez, Manuel Lanzini, and Winston Reid will miss the clash for the Hammers.
The Spurs will have to do without their most creative players – Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen. Mousa Dembele, Jan Vertonghen, Serge Aurier, Vincent Janssen, and Michel Vorm will all miss the tie.

West Ham United vs. Tottenham Hotspur F.C. United Head to Head

West Ham failed to keep a clean sheet against Tottenham in 3 successive games.
West Ham scored at least one goal against Tottenham in 8 successive games.
8 of Tottenham’s last 10 matches ended with more than 2.5 goals scored.
6 of Tottenham’s last 8 matches ended with both teams scoring.

West Ham United vs. Tottenham Hotspur F.C. Betting Tips

West Ham won 3 of their last 5 matches by a difference of 2 or more goals.
West Ham won just 2 of their 5 Premier League home games this season.
Tottenham lost just 4 of their last 28 Premier League matches.
Tottenham scored fewer than 2.5 goals in 4 of their last 5 visits versus West Ham in the Premier League.

West Ham United vs. Tottenham Hotspur F.C. Prediction

Tottenham come as the clear favourite not only because of the team’s ambitions but also because of West Ham’s average performance so far this season. A win for Tottenham is surely a reasonable bet (1.85 @ bet365). However, there are some more interesting options like away win and over 2.5 goals in the match or away win and both teams to score.
West Ham United vs. Tottenham Hotspur F.C. away win (1.85 @ bet365)
West Ham United vs. Tottenham Hotspur F.C. away win and over 2.5 goals scored in total (2.60 @ bet365)
West Ham United vs. Tottenham Hotspur F.C. away win and both teams to score (3.60 @ bet365)

Tottenham is facing Barcelona in one of the most interesting clashes in the Champions League on October 3 at Wembley. There is a big contrast between the moods in the ranks of the two teams after their matches in the first round of the Champions League. Tottenham dramatically lost with an unexpected, last-minute goal. The Spurs were beaten by Inter (2:1) on the San Siro stadium and now, they need a win in the upcoming game.
Barcelona had no problems achieving an impressive 4-0 victory against PSV Eindhoven. The bad news for Barca’s coach is Samuel Umtiti’s red card. The French national will not play against the Spurs and he is going to be replaced by either Clément Lenglet or Thomas Vermaelen.
Tottenham’s manager Mauricio Pochettino is facing some unpleasant issues, too. Both of his first-choice goalkeepers, Hugo Lloris and Michel Vorm, are injured and it is not clear if they will recover on time. The third goalie Paulo Gazzaniga will be the last resort for Pochettino. Vincent Janssen is missing from the manager’s list due to a foot injury but he is not such a key player in the Tottenham’s squad.

Tottenham Hotspur F.C. vs. FC Barcelona Head to Head

Barcelona’s performance since the beginning of the season has not been particularly exceptional, despite the relatively good results. The team lost against Leganes (2:1) in the midweek fixture. Of course, it is too early to speak of a crisis, but the deficiencies in their play are obvious. The Blaugrana is playing much more pragmatically with Ernesto Valverde in charge.
There is no more Johan Cruyff’s idealistic “tiki-taka”, continued by Pep Guardiola’s dream team. Valverde relies on a 4-3-3 scheme, which transforms into a 4-2-3-1 with Luis Suárez as a centre-forward, Messi behind him as a playmaker, while Dembélé and Coutinho are positioned on the wings.

Tottenham Hotspur F.C. vs. FC Barcelona Betting Tips

Tottenham’s manager Mauricio Pochettino will rely on the creativity of his key players – Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen.
According to some analysts, Eriksen was supposed to be transferred in Barcelona this summer, but that never happened.
Dele Alli is another Spurs’ player who can make a difference if Barcelona’s defenders let him make his move.
The two teams have never played against each other in the Champions League. The only duel between them on the European scene was in 1982. They faced each other in the UEFA European Cup Winners Cup semifinals.
The first match ended in a draw (1:1) at White Hart Lane, but Barcelona grabbed the victory in the second one (1:0). The Catalans then defeated Standard Liege in the final and won the cup.

Tottenham Hotspur F.C. vs. FC Barcelona Prediction

According to us, the outcome of this match will be determined by the individual skills of the teams’ top players.
Tottenham Hotspur F.C. vs. FC Barcelona 2 (1.90 @ bet365)

Tottenham started the season as title contenders but have lost their past three games in all competitions. Brighton, on the other hand, have no win in 4 games.

Brighton vs. Tottenham Hotspur Odds

Tottenham is on a very disappointing streak which must end in Brighton if they want to keep close to the table leaders. The odds for the guests to win are very favourable.
Tottenham Hotspur win – 1.72

Brighton vs. Tottenham Hotspur Head to Head

Tottenham have won twice and recorded their last tie with Brighton back in December 2017.
Despite Tottenham not keeping a clean sheet for the past 3 games, they will be determined to get the points against Brighton who have not kept a clean sheet for the past 13 games.
The past 7 Tottenham matches had over 2.5 goals and Tottenham were first to score in 7 out of their past 8 matches.

Brighton vs. Tottenham Hotspur News

Unfortunately for Tottenham, a lot of their key players will miss the tie but that might be a motivation for the team to impress.
Dele Ali, Erik Lamela, Hugo Lloris, and Moussa Sissoko will miss the tie for Tottenham.
Pascal Gross will be the big name missing for Brighton.
Despite the missing players, this is a must-win game for Tottenham who are under great pressure from both fans and media.

Brighton vs. Tottenham Hotspur Predictions

Brighton have their chances and will try to extract maximum gain from the bad situation at Tottenham. Having the advantage of hosts Brighton are very likely to score a goal. On the other hand, Spurs will do their best to get the three points, which includes scoring more than the opponent.
Brighton vs. Tottenham Hotspur both teams to score – 1.75

The Portuguese tactician witnessed United concede just 28 goals during the recently-concluded campaign but he is still unimpressed with the options in the defensive department.
As such, The Manchester Evening News claims that United are seeking to pursue Alderweireld from Tottenham Hotspur and they are prepared as much as £55m to push through a summer agreement.
Alderweireld has unquestionably been one of the Premier League most-consistent defenders over the past few seasons but his future at Spurs remains uncertain beyond the summer.
The Belgium international started the 2017/18 campaign as the first-choice centre-back alongside Jan Vertonghen but he happened to lose his place to Davinson Sanchez following a hamstring injury prior to the festive period.
On his return in February, the former Ajax graduate struggled to receive the assurance of regular gametime under Mauricio Pochettino and he finished the season with just 13 Premier League starts.
Taking this into regard, Alderweireld has been reluctant to pen a new Spurs contract beyond the summer of 2019 and the club are now considering his sale, given the one-year option on his contract, has a £25m release clause attached to it.
United boss Mourinho has reinforced the central defensive department over the past two seasons with the signings of Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof respectively but neither have been able to cement a regular starting spot.
Bailly has been by far the club’s best central defender in terms of his tenacity but the Ivorian has suffered a couple of long-term injuries which have hampered his chances of establishing himself.
On the other hand, Lindelof has not quite adapted to the pace of the English game and this saw him being restricted to just 13 starts during his maiden Premier League campaign last term.
Aside from the duo, the likes of Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind have got opportunities to impress in the central defensive department and the former happened to be Mourinho’s common pick during the 2017/18 season.

The Belgium international has barely featured for Spurs since his recovery from a hamstring injury in February and his position at the club remains in doubt beyond the summer.
According to The Sun, the Blues are looking to take advantage of Alderweireld’s contractual situation in order to lure him to Stamford Bridge. The versatile defender presently has just 14 months left on his existing deal but his reluctance to extend his contract has seemingly put Spurs in a predicament.
As per The Sun, the Blues are prepared to lodge a bid of around £45m for the former Ajax graduate and this may entice Spurs into a sale despite the rivalry between the London clubs. Mauricio Pochettino’s side do have the option of triggering a 12-month extension clause in Alderweireld’s contract but this would, in turn, activate a £25m release clause which would stay active for 14 days after the close of the 2018/19 season.
Apart from Chelsea, there has also been interest from the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City but the latter appear to have ended their pursuit following their club-record signing of Aymeric Laporte from Athletic Bilbao during the January transfer window.
Alderweireld has been key towards Spurs’ progress over the past couple of seasons where he has emerged as the regular partner to compatriot Jan Vertonghen. However, during his period on the sidelines this term, summer signing Davinson Sanchez has impressed at the heart of the defence to the extent that Pochettino has stuck with the Colombian following Alderweireld’s comeback.
The Belgian’s current contract standoff with Spurs may have also hampered his chances of gaining regular playing time and it appears that Pochettino wants a settled backline for the 2018/19 campaign and beyond. Alderweireld has made three starts for Tottenham Hotspur since the turn of the year and just one of those have come in the top-flight.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly made up plans to bolster the full-back positions during the summer with Danny Rose understood to be among the leading targets.
The England international has had a tough time at Tottenham Hotspur ever since his public criticism over the club’s transfer policy and he has played second fiddle to Ben Davies for most of the campaign.
As such, talks have accelerated over him pursuing a fresh challenge and according to The Guardian, the 27-year-old could be the subject of an approach from United during the summer.
Ashley Young has done a more than credible job on the left side of the backline this campaign but there is still the concern over his age (32) which may hamper his chances of earning a long-term contract.
As a result, the Portuguese tactician appears keen on having Rose on-board for the upcoming season and beyond, though his arrival may coincide with the exits of Luke Shaw, Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind – all of whom have failed to impress the manager.
Meanwhile, Mourinho is also understood to be keen on finding a competitor for the right-back position with Antonio Valencia having likewise entered the twilight of his professional career.
Unlike in previous seasons, the Ecuador international has been less of a threat further up the field and the Mancunian giants are said to have begun the search for a new recruit to succeed the club vice-captain.
United are currently second in the Premier League table with 74 points and they have the opportunity of cementing their position further when they host Arsenal at Old Trafford this weekend.
Mourinho has succumbed to just one defeat against Arsene Wenger over the course of his managerial career in the Premier League and the 55-year-old will be keen to maintain his strong record against his French counterpart, who has decided his 22-year reign with the Gunners during the summer.

Manchester United progressed to the final of this season’s FA Cup after they secured a 2-1 triumph over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday. The Red Devils started the game on the back foot after an early Dele Alli opener but they managed to overturn the result with Alexis Sanchez and Ander Herrera finding the scoresheet.

Three things we learned:
Alexis Sanchez impresses once again at Wembley: The Chilean’s inclusion in the starting lineup raised plenty of questions, considering the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial impressed in midweek. Nevertheless, the move paid off with Sanchez bagging his sixth goal in five FA Cup ties at the stadium. Sanchez was said to distract the performance of Paul Pogba on the left flank but the pair combined splendidly for United’s opener which Sanchez scored off a brilliant header.
Spurs’ wait for silverware continues: Tottenham Hotspur unquestionably have one of the most talent squads across Europe, but their failure to deliver trophies may disintegrate the side sooner rather than later. With the Cup exit, Spurs have gone over a decade without any silverware and Mauricio Pochettino needs to end this feat next season at the least. The likes of Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen are being watched by many of Europe’s elite and neither would want to stick for the long-term, without trophy success.
Jose Mourinho set for possible date with Chelsea: Mourinho has enjoyed a hot-cold relationship with the Blues fans since leaving Stamford Bridge and he would love to have another opportunity to beat the west London outfit. United and Chelsea have acquired a win apiece this campaign and the prospect of a final between them appears a distinct possibility. Chelsea are being fancied to beat Southampton in their semi-final on Sunday and barring a shock, we should witness Antonio Conte managing possibly his final Blues game at the Wembley Stadium next month.

The Red Devils trailed early courtesy of a Dele Alli effort but goals from Alexis Sanchez and Ander Herrera ensured that they progressed to a record-equalling 20th FA Cup final.

Player Ratings:
David de Gea – The Spaniard was stranded for Spurs’ opening goal with the United defence falling to cut off the delivery. Apart from this, he had a relatively comfortable game with Spurs resorting to long-range shots – 6.5/10
Antonio Valencia – The Ecuadorian did a good job on Heung-Min Son on the right side and looked commanding with the ball in the opposition half. Lucky to not be sent off for a couple of fouls in the second period – 6.5/10
Phil Jones – The Englishman could not do much for the Spurs’ opener but besides this, he came flying with multiple clearances and was clearly a solid performer alongside compatriot Smalling – 7.5/10
Chris Smalling – Smalling has come for stick from the United faithful for his positioning, and it was a similar case in the first-half. As the game progressed, he got the better of Harry Kane with key interceptions – 6.5/10
Nemanja Matic – Struggled to cope with the initial threat from the opposition attack, but took up good positions following the interval whilst acting as a shield ahead of the backline – 6.5/10
Ander Herrera – The Spaniard truly deserves a contract extension for his efforts. Herrera produced another tenacious performance in midfield and this was capped off by a match-defining goal for United – 7.5/10
Paul Pogba – Started the game with a couple of giveaways but improved as the game went on. Provided the key assist for Alexis Sanchez’s opener after stealing the ball from Mousa Dembele – 7/10
Jesse Lingard – Not the best of games for the Englishman. Lingard struggled to find a flow in his passing during the game but he made a key decision to let the ball go for Herrera’s winner – 6/10
Alexis Sanchez – The Chilean’s selection was questioned prior to the game but he managed to prove his critics wrong with a wonderful header to pull United level. He continued to show enthusiasm with his forward play – 8/10
Romelu Lukaku – Lukaku struggled to make his presence felt in the opposition box barring the one occasion where his neat delivery set up Herrera for the match-winning goal – 6/10

Manchester United face-off against Tottenham Hotspur in the first semi-final of the FA Cup at the Wembley Stadium. The Red Devils have been in the better run of form over the past week but Spurs should have the slender advantage in the game, having played their home matches at the national stadium this season.

What happened in the previous meeting?
The last meeting between the sides was at the Wembley Stadium in January where Spurs claimed a comfortable 2-0 win. The north London side opened the scoring via Christian Eriksen after just 11 seconds on the clock, and this was officially registered as the third fastest goal in Premier League history. Spurs continued their dominance thereafter and they doubled their lead in the 28th minute after an own-goal from Phil Jones. Spurs could have quite easily extended the scoreline further but Harry Kane struggled to find his feet in front of goal.
Players to watch for:
Romelu Lukaku – Manchester United: The Belgium international came on as a second-half substitute against Bournemouth on Wednesday night and scored the clincher in United’s 2-0 triumph. Lukaku has now achieved his best-ever scoring season with 27 goals but the marksman brings much more to the table with his hold-up and link-up play having improved under Jose Mourinho. Lukaku has notched at least one goal in each of the previous rounds of the FA Cup and Spurs may have to nullify his physical threat in order to come up with a positive outcome.
Harry Kane – Tottenham Hotspur: Like Lukaku, Kane has been the lynchpin in the Spurs attack and his injury comeback is undoubtedly a huge boost for the Cup meeting. The England international has netted twice since returning from a knee injury in early April and with this, he has become only the fourth player in Premier League history to score 20 goals in three consecutive seasons. The 24-year-old has netted four times for Spurs in three FA Cup outings and this includes a late goal at Newport County which avoided a major upset.
Prediction:
Manchester United 1-2 Tottenham Hotspur

Pep Guardiola’s side have succumbed to three straight defeats across all competitions, and Spurs have the opportunity to pile more misery on the Mancunian giants whilst cementing their top-four position in the standings.
What happened in the previous gameweek?
Spurs continued their winning run as they beat Stoke City 2-1 on the road. Christian Eriksen opened the scoring in the 52nd minute only to see Mame Biram Diouf level the scores five minutes later. Eriksen notched his second goal of the day via a brilliant free-kick in the 63rd minute, but surprisingly, the dubious goals panel awarded the strike to Harry Kane after his testimony and video replays which appeared to indicate a minor flick off his shoulder.
On the contrary, City faced Manchester United in a Manchester derby which would not be worthwhile for their fans to remember. The hosts took a comfortable 2-0 lead at the break, and looked good value to at least double the advantage. However, the second period witnessed a stunning comeback for United spearheaded by Paul Pogba, who bagged a brace in the space of 97 seconds. Chris Smalling followed to bag the match-winner for United before David de Gea made another world-class save to deny Sergio Aguero his 200th City goal – and avoid a share of the spoils.
Players to watch for:
Harry Kane – Tottenham Hotspur: Kane has been trolled severely on Twitter after being rewarded his Stoke goal via the dubious goals panel. The Englishman is now on 25 goals for the Premier League campaign, and his focus is likely to lie on another Golden Boot, for which he is four goals shy of leader Mohamed Salah. Kane has notched just two goals in six previous matches versus City, but he has a good opportunity to test their backline which has come off the disappointment of a Champions League quarter-final exit to Liverpool.
Sergio Aguero – Manchester City: Aguero has not started a game since his recovery from a knee strain, and he will be desperate to lead the line this weekend. The Argentine has been stuck on 199 goals for City since the League Cup final triumph over Arsenal, and his involvement could be key to ending City’s worst run under Pep Guardiola. Aguero holds an exceptional record against Spurs with 10 goals in just 12 meetings.
Prediction:
Tottenham have grown in confidence at home as the season has gone along, and we are fancying them for the victory after their recent impressive performances against the elite clubs. Spurs are unbeaten against the top-six in 2018 with three wins and one draw – Tottenham Hotspur 3-2 Manchester City
