A nakon što su na startu sezone u Superkupu slavili sa 1:0 nad Club Bruggeom, svi su očekivali tri boda i na otvaranju prvenstva protiv Westerloa, ali oni su kao gosti samo remizirali 1:1 pa sada svakako žele doći i do pobjede u ovom domaćem ogledu sa Genkom, koji će inače zbog povreda propustiti samo defanzivci Gershon i Johansson.

Što se tiče Genka, slobodno mogu reći da su oni podbacili u prošloj sezoni jer su prvo regularni dio prvenstva završili tek na sedmom mjestu, da bi onda i u doigravanju za plasman u Evropsku ligu na tabeli završili iza Mechelena. Naravno da je sve to odmah rezultiralo i otkazom za škotskog trenera McLeisha, dok je umjesto njega na klupu Genka stigao domaći stručnjak Maess, koji je inače u prethodnih pet godina s dosta uspjeha predvodio ekipu Lokerena.
Što se pak tiče igračkih promjena, tokom ljeta su ih napustili samo veznjaci Hyland i Joseph-Monrose te napadač de Ceulaer, dok od pojačanja svakako treba izdvojiti dvojac koji je stigao iz Standarda, a riječ je o veznjaku Buyensu i iskusnom napadaču de Camargu.
