Giroud Scores Twice as France Set up Clash with the World Champions

France cruised into the semi finals of the European Championships with a comprehensive 5-2 win over Iceland last night.
The hosts dominated the proceedings from the opening minute and never looked back. The rout was initiated by Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud who scored in the 12th minute of the game.
Minutes later, the lead was doubled thanks to a brilliant headed goal scored by Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba.
Star attackers Dimitri Payet and Antoine Griezmann netted in the final minutes of the first half to give France a huge 4-0 lead at the break.
Iceland were the first to get on the score-sheet in the second half. Sigthorsson turned in Sigurdsson’s brilliant ball in the 56th minute, however, three minutes later, Giroud scored his second of the game to restore France’s four goal lead.
Birkir Bjarnason scored late in the second half to give Iceland supporters another reason to celebrate but the dream run finally ended.
France will now battle the World Champions to book a place in the final.

Iceland shocked the footballing world by eliminating England from the Euro 2016 last night.
The only good news for the Three Lions is that their manager Roy Hodgson resigned after the embarrassing defeat.
England took the lead in the fourth minute thanks to Wayne Rooney from the spot kick. However, Iceland scored two goals in the space of next 15 minutes to turn the tie around.
Hodgson had 70 odd minutes to bounce back, however, his team did not even create a single clear cut opportunity against an impressive Iceland side and were deservedly knocked out of the competition.
Heimir Hallgrímsson’s team will now face hosts France in the quarter finals of the European Championships.

Portugal kick started their Euro 2016 campaign against Iceland and were considered favorites to earn all three points.
However, the Portuguese side could only earn a single point from the game. Captain and Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo could not hide his frustration and slammed Iceland’s small mentality (ESPN).

Andre Gomes brilliantly set up the speedy winger for the opening goal.
Unfortunately, Fernando Santos’ side failed to hold onto the lead and Iceland managed to equalize through Bjarnason.
The FC Basel midfielder found himself in acres of space in the six yard box due to woeful defending from Portugal’s back line and had all the time in the world to slot the ball in the net.
The Portuguese side had the game in control and have only got themselves to blame for dropping points against Iceland.
Nani has been linked with a return to Old Trafford this summer but the latest reports suggest that he is heading towards Inter Milan (One World Sports)
