The Seleccao are currently second in their group and next up, they will face arguably the weakest side of the competition, New Zealand.
The All Whites were beaten 2-0 by Russia in the opening game of the tournament and were eliminated after losing 2-1 against Mexico in the second contest.
Portugal just need a point in their final game to confirm a place in the semi finals of the competition and we can expect them to rest a few key players.
Cristiano Ronaldo is likely to start on the bench tomorrow. New Zealand will be happy with that because the star playmaker has netted 15 goals in his last 9 games for Real Madrid and Portugal.
In case you want to take a punt on who will be winning the match tomorrow, you can always look for the betting tips. Goes without saying, Portugal are favorites to earn all three points.
Expect Santos to select the likes of Nelson Semedo, Luis Neto and Jose Fonte in his starting XI vs New Zealand. Former Manchester United star Nani started on the bench vs Russia and he may return in place of Ronaldo.
Starting XI: Patricio; Neto, Semedo, Fonte, Eliseu; Gomes, Danilo, Adrien Silva, Bernardo Silva, Andre Silva; Nani

Brazil taught World and European Champions Spain a footballing lesson last night as they won their third consecutive Confederations Cup by beating La Roja 3-0. Spaniards had no answer to the attacking play of Samba boys and perhaps couldn’t find the much effective tiki taka during the game.
Chelsea’s Fernando Torres won yet another golden boot having scored 5 times in the competition. Brazilian Fred also scored the same number of goals but the Spaniard won the prize like he did at the European Championships by playing fewer minutes.
Torres like majority of the Spaniards was ineffective last night but his 5 goals in the group stage eventually won him the coveted Golden Boot Prize, one that he will not be all happy winning because this time he ended up on the losing side.
Spain never really had the chance to control the game as Brazil started pressurizing them from the word go and it took only 2 minutes for the Samba boys to open the scoring, Fred somehow scrambled the ball in the net.
Having taken the lead, Brazilians were in charge and did not let Spain play their flwoing passing game by pressing high and counter attacking with the likes speed demons like Neymar and Hulk.
Iniesta was perhaps the only shining light in the La Roja side as he dribbled past Brazilian players but unfortunately with no end product. Xavi on the other hand was far from his usual best.
Player of the tournament, Neymar was too hard to deal with especially for his new Barcelona team mate Gerard Pique. Just before the half time break, Brazil doubled the lead. Neymar easily skipped past Arbeloa with quick feet and smashed the ball past Casillas with left foot.

The second half started just as the first, Brazilians were not letting Spain keep the ball for long and to their advantage Spanish defense was at sixes and sevens last night. 2 minutes after the break, Fred produced a lovely finish from just inside the box. Casillas could have done better but failed to clear the ball despite getting a hand on it.
Del Bosque had to make changes and Navas was brought on for Mata. The new Manchester City player immediately made an impact as he won Spain a cheeky penalty. Of all the starlets, Sergio Ramos, a defender stepped up for Penalty and shot wide much to the despair of Spanish supporters.
That was not it, the horror story continued as Pique was sent off in the 68th minute for a tackle on the last man Neymar and Spain had to play the rest of the game with 10 men.
Later on, Brazil had a few decent chances saved by Casillas and on the other end Julio Cesar made two great saves to deny Pedro and David Villa.
In the end, Brazil ran out deserved winners of the Confederations Cup and are being considered strong favorites to lift the World Cup next year playing at home. However, Brazil have dominated last two Confederations Cup as well but afterwards failed to win the World Cups the following years. Adding to that, The Seleccao might have won 5 WCs but they have never won the biggest prize in their homeland. Will that change next year, only time will tell.

Chelsea target Edinson Cavani was finally on target for his national side in the Confederations cup however dominant Brazil progress to the final thanks to a late goal scored by Paulinho.
The Samba boys have qualified for third straight Confederations cup final, not to forget they won the last two against Argentina in 2005 and against United States in 2010. Spain and Italy will collide tonight in the second semi to decide who will face Seleccao in the final.
The Brazilians dominated possession throughout the game as Uruguay could not find much space to build play effectively.
In early stages, Seleccao threatened the South American champions. However, against the run of play Uruguay were the first one to get clear goal scoring chance via penalty. David Luiz dragged captain Lugano inside the box and referee spotted that to award a deserved penalty.
Who else but Uruguay’s iconic player Diego Forlan stepped up to take the spot kick but much to his despair the penalty was brilliantly saved by Julio Cesar.
Brazil kept on piling pressure in the first half and were rewarded in the 41st minute when Neymar set himself up with a sublime chest control and his shot was deflected in the path of Fred who made no mistake in slotting the ball home.
Coming back in the second half, Uruguay were always going to step up and they started attacking Brazil from the word go. In the 48th minute, Brazil failed to clear their lines as the ball fell sweetly for Cavani to take advantage.
Although, the Napoli striker has had a torrid time for the national side in the competition; still he is one of the best finishers around and showed quality to equalize.
The game continued with Brazil dominating play but no side created a clear cut scoring chance. Liverpool star Luis Suarez could not really show his brilliance on the field as well.
Brazil created majority of the opportunities but Uruguay’s defense was up to the task and cleared the threat. However, perhaps they fell asleep in the 85th minute when Paulinho was poorly marked or perhaps left unmarked as he rose highest to head the ball in.
Uruguay utilized all resources in attack but time eventually won the race. Spain are favorites for today’s second semi and a Brazil vs Spain final will surely be an exciting contest to witness.

Fernando Torres has been in outstanding form for the national side lately. The Spaniard has scored 5 goals in 120 minutes for La Roja in the Confederations Cup and is favorite to win the golden boot prize.
Much has been talked about El Nino’s future at Stamford Bridge after the arrival of new manager Jose Mourinho. The club wants to sign a top quality striker, Jose usually plays with a lone striker upfront and if Cavani does join then Torres may have to warm the bench.
Chelsea number 9 is adamant that he wants to stay at the club to win the premier league next season and fight for his place no matter what. His current run of form might be brilliant but that against teams ranked 138 (Tahiti) and 31 (Nigeria) respectively.
As we move into the final stages of the competition, now is the time for El Nino to impress Mourinho.
The game against Italy in the last four is the one where real test starts. The European and World champions are surely going to be favorites going into the fixture. On the other hand Italy will be without star striker Mario Balotelli who was ruled out of the game.
Although, Spain dismantled Azzuri in the final of European Championships 4-0 last summer and Torres did score a goal after coming on from the bench, still it will completely be a different scenario this time around.
Former Liverpool star has never been able to replicate his Anfield form for the Blues. His torrid scoring record speaks for itself especially in the league where he has failed to move into double figures for a season.
The Spaniard has only started 1 game out of 3 in Confederations cup but has been fantastic. On the other hand, since Soldado missed decent scoring opportunities in the last game, chances are that Torres will start for La Roja on Thursday.
Torres claims that he has nothing to prove to Mourinho but perhaps he might just have to. Will he be able to shine again and impress his new boss, we shall see.

Chelsea striker Fernando Torres bagged his third International hat-trick for Spain as Tahiti were dismantled by the World and European Champions 10-0 on the night in Fifa Confederations Cup.
La Roja started the tournament in brilliant fashion against a top team like Uruguay. Although the 2-1 scoreline against the South American champions seems a decent one but in reality the Europeans were completely dominant, having more than 65 percent possession. Tahiti were always going to fear the worst after that.
The Spaniards were in blistering form and could have easily scored more had they taken majority of their chances. Adding to that, Torres might have scored 5 but he missed one penalty.
Nevertheless, the number 9 scored 4 goals in a game for the first time in his career and ensured Spain’s qualification into last 4.
Torres scored his last hatrick in the Confederations Cup as well. Back in 2009, Torres ripped New Zealand apart in the first game where Spain won 5-0 on the night.
His first hatrick for the national side came way back in 2005 against San Marino in World Cup Qualifiers.
How many times have we heard the phrase “Torres is back” after a rare quality performance from the Spaniard. El Nino was by far the man of the match on the night however; can a superb performance against 138th ranked Tahiti impress Jose Mourinho? May be not, but probably yes if this prolific form continues in the competition.

The Fifa Confederations Cup 2013 will start on June 15 and perhaps defending champions and home side Brazil will be favorites to win the competition for the fourth time. The samba boys won the last two editions in 2005 (Germany) and in 2009 (South Africa).
World and European champions Spain will surely make a strong case to win their first title as they were ousted by USA in 2009. Last time, Luis Fabiano won the golden boot with 5 goals but we will have a new winner this time as Sau Paolo’s striker is not taking part this. Here are a few top contenders for confed cup golden boot prize.
Luis Suarez
Liverpool star man is arguably one of the best forwards in the world right now. Keeping his controversies aside, the Uruguayan is a menacing creature and a nightmare for the defenders to deal with. The former Ajax forward scored 30 goals for the reds last season. As he will be out of club football for sometime due to ban, Suarez will surely look to be at his best for Uruguay. Although, his team mate Cavani is another top striker but Luis has more prolific record with that sky blue shirt on.
Fernando Torres
The very first article on this site was about Euro 2012 top contenders for golden boot and much to everyone’s surprise, Fernando Torres was included in the list. Against all odds, the Spaniard won the golden boot at the European Championships. Although, once again Torres had a torrid league campaign but he was one of the best players of Europa League. The number 9 is back in the national squad and do not count him out of the race of golden boot.
Neymar
The Brazilian sensation finally completed his dream move to Barcelona. Neymar had a brilliant goal scoring record for Santos and same is the case with the national side as the youngster has already scored 20 goals in just 33 appearances for country. On home soil, all the limelight will be on him and easily he is one of the favorites to win the confed cup golden boot prize. He has his critics and the competition will be great chance for him to prove the doubters wrong.
Balotelli
The former Manchester City star has been in red hot form since leaving for AC Milan and will be Italy’s main striker in the competition. Balotelli has scored 8 times in 22 appearances for the Azzuri and on his day, he can even win the game single handedly. Remember the Euro 2012 semi finals against Germany. However, his main problem is actually himself. Whether or not he can control his reactive behavior to perform at optimum level for the national side, we shall see.
Hernandez
The chances of Mexico going all the way in the competition are quite low as they are in a tough group with Brazil, Italy and Japan. Still, Hernandez is probably the best striker among the teams that are less favorite to win this competition. The Manchester United forward is a top class finisher. Although, he did not get many starting opportunities with Red Devils last season, still he always impressed when given the chance. Adding to that his record with national side is prolific as Chichartio has scored 32 goals in 50 appearances for Mexico.
