Just over an year and a half ago, we saw the glimpses of a superstar in the making in the form of Belgian star Adnan Januzaj.
It was an away game against Sunderland, on the 5th of October, 2013, United were 1-0 down, struggling to open up a dogged defense. It seemed that United’s woes would continue under David Moyes but Januzaj had some other plans. In his first Premier League start, he stepped up big time and scored two goals to push United over the line.

He was the glimmer of hope in a tumultuous time for Manchester United, a hope that the future would be bright.
He won the 2013 Denzil Haroun Reserve Team Player of the Year award and was likened to be the successor of the legendary Ryan Giggs.
As the season came to a close, it was all gloomy at Old Trafford as the club had finished in 7th place. However, the arrival of Louis Van Gaal as the manager was a relief for everyone at Man United.

The Dutch coach has a reputation of providing academy players a fair chance to prove themselves. He was the one who promoted Xavi to the first team with Barcelona and Muller with Bayern Munich.
It was Januzaj’s turn to prove himself to his new coach. However, a year has gone by and not much improvement can be seen in the youngster. Is his development being stalled by not loaning him out to other clubs where he might be able to play regularly?

With the squad additions United made last year and this year, it isn’t very likely that he will get regular playing time at the top level.

He’s 20 now and needs regular top flight experience to improve. Just look at his fellow countryman Thibaut Courtois who has developed into a world class goal keeper at such a young age mainly because he got regular playing time at a top class team such as Atletico Madrid.

No one wants to see an amazing talent go to waste and if Louis van Gaal has no plans for Adnan in his first team then the Dutch coach must loan him out.

When they want a player, they just look to offer the high asking price to lure him.
The general principle behind an auction is to get maximum (sometimes even a whole lot more than necessary) price for the commodity, which in this case are the players.
It is fair to say that this is how it works, but what it actually does is that it inflates the player prices.
Let’s talk about Raheem Sterling. The England international cost Manchester City £49 Million as reports suggest. The main concern about the transfer is that whether the fee is justifiable or not? That fee includes his ‘market worth, royalty to the club, pay out to QPR (his old club) and “The English Premium”.
This ‘English Premium’ is the main perpetrator here. Since there are not many young English players that can be considered ‘Top Class’, whenever a kid with a potential pops up, top clubs want to sign him up (just to fulfill their home grown quota) and end up paying over the odds for the said player.
Without a shadow of a doubt, this “English Premium” is playing a huge part in ruining the way these transfers work. It is inflating the player prices to an extent where it is impossible to justify them.
I know that clubs are allowed to value the players according to their importance to the said club, but to demand ludicrous amounts of money for “potential” is something that shouldn’t happen.
FIFA talks about imposing Financial Fair Play and regulating the net spend of clubs so perhaps a look into regulating the player prices won’t be too bad.

As the new season approaches, all the elite teams are strengthening their squads with quality additions, especially in attack, but almost all of them are struggling with defensive solidity.
The teams want to add more steel to their back line, but the problem is that there seems to be a lack of top quality defenders around the world.
Clubs have Top-Class Academies but only a few of them can produce a gem of a defender(Center Half). All of them are fighting for the signature of a few selected individuals. For example, as most of us know, in the summer of 2014, Raphael Varane was being “chased” by Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City, PSG, etc.
We talk about Mats Hummels, Matija Nastasic, Kurt Zouma, Raphael Varane, Marquinhos, et al. But apart from these few names, there aren’t a lot of young and talented center halves as of now.
Let’s talk about England for a second here. There are young talents like John Stones, Carl Jenkinson, Calum Chambers, Luke Shaw, etc. but almost all of them have flattered to deceive. They do have the potential to be world beaters in their position but they need to be conditioned well and trained properly.
As the emphasis moves more and more towards the attacking aspect of the game, we are losing focus of the equally important defensive side of it.
This issue is pretty dreary.
I am not saying that we are completely neglecting it but the issue needs to be addressed a bit more seriously. I believe that with a proper strategy, we can resolve this issue with relative ease.
P.S. I would really love to see “No Nonsense” defenders like Carles Puyol, Sol Campbell, Fabio Cannavaro but are there are not many like them left in the game.

For a long time there has been talk of many players leaving St. Mary’s this season. Some of them have already left (Rickie Lambert & Manager Mauricio Pochettino) and list of probable transfer targets includes club captain Adam Lallana, young left back Luke Shaw, Centre Back Dejan Lovren and Midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin.
These players were all at the heart of the team’s amazing performance that saw them place 8th in the Premier League.
These players excelled in the recently concluded premier league campaign and have garnered interest from various clubs around the world.
If all the above listed players leave the St. Mary’s then it will be a major task for the Southampton Management to fill the void created by the departures of such talented and important players.
Rebuilding is a slow process and it takes a lot of time to sign and/or develop such players. Nevertheless it is a known fact that Southampton has the best football academy across England and is capable of producing very talented players (Most notable being Gareth Bale and Theo Walcott).
They will be hoping to promote 2 or maybe 3 quality players in the coming season so as to challenge for the Europa League spots.
Further Soton have appointed Ronald Koeman as manager after Mauricio Pochettino took over the reigns at Tottenham. A new manager means a change in playing style and maybe a few good signings.
Only time will tell what happens but we can hope that they keep playing like they did last season and maybe do better and earn a Europa League Qualification this time around.

It has been a fantastic season for Manchester City so far. They are in the top 3 as of now and are definitely looking as potential challengers for the League title. Although they face stiff competition from Chelsea and Arsenal. And also Liverpool (if they continue playing as they are and the other two slip up a bit).
What is interesting is to see how they utilize their strengths to the maximum. Their defense is solid, midfield is creative and their forwards are clinical. They have a few ageing stars in their line up but they all are contributing superbly at the same time.
The change in staff has affected the club in a very positive manner and Manuel Pellegrini’s attacking mentality has had a great impact on the side.
Now coming to their city counterparts, Manchester United.
I know there has been a lot of talk about Moyes but as a football fan, even I have some views.
We all know that Sir Alex hand picked him for the job but since the day David Moyes took over the reigns at Manchester United, things are going in reverse.
What is worse is that he doesn’t seem to learn from his mistakes. I haven’t seen MAN U play such woefully since ages. Playing bad once in a while is Okay, but constantly since the last 8 months or so? Doesn’t look good at all.
Every team goes through a TRANSITIONAL PERIOD after a change in staff, but judging by the length of this period it doesn’t look healthy for United.
The player’s are not performing, tactics aren’t right, etc, etc. Whatever the problem is, it “NEEDS TO BE FIXED ASAP”.
So we’ll see what the upcoming summer transfer window has in store for David Moyes, since he has been handed a ‘WAR CHEST’ of $180 million to complete the squad overhaul.
Also if MAN U want to turn thing around this season they better fasten their seat-belts as it is going to be a tough ride from here to claiming a respectable position in the table
Conclusion- City looks the better club in Manchester (judging by current form). But football is a crazy game and anything can happen. So till then, just enjoy the game.

As the title suggests, the following list contains some of the best ageing players around the globe.
Kindly excuse me if I forget to include any player(s). Your suggestions are absolutely welcome and it will be of great honour for me and the readers of this article to get to know some of the local legends.
Please note that the list only contains players above 30 years of age.
Starting with England, we have, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, John Terry, Rio Ferdinand, etc.
Spain: Iker cassillas, Carles Puyol, Xavi Hernandez, etc.
France: Patrice Evra, Eric Abidal, etc.
Italy: Gianluigi Buffon, Andrea Pirlo, Francesco Totti, Alessandro Nesta, Christian Abbiati, etc.
Some of the others are: Ryan Giggs, Didier Drogba, Miroslav Klose, Mark Schwarzer, Anders Svensson, Mario Yepes, Javier Zanetti, etc.
Now coming to the point, all these players have had a glittering careers and they are still going strongly for their national teams, clubs or both.
I have heard a lot of people saying that athletes do not last long but this list contains some of the best aged players active at present.
The game of football has been honoured to have such legends still playing. Well not only these, but also the ones who have retired or passed away. #RESPECT.
Whenever these players will hang up their boots, it will be a great loss to the game.
At last I would like to request everyone out there not to compare any of these legends, as it only hampers the spirit of the game.
So just sit back, relax and enjoy the game.
However, since Fernando Torres joined Chelsea for a record British transfer fee of £50 million, his form been under scrutiny.

Once considered one of the best strikers in the world, the Spanish International used to play with great confidence and his strike rate was impeccable at Liverpool, as well as when he was with Spain for years.

During recent times, his form has deserted him and has been able to play well in patches only.

But Jose Mourinho has full faith in the forward’s abilities and is committed to getting the best out of the Spaniard.

Well, Mourinho’s faith has paid dividends as Torres is playing quite well. His link-up play with the midfield has been excellent so far this season.

He looks like a threat to create goal-scoring chance every time the ball is at his feet.

In the Champions League fixture against Schalke 04, he grabbed a brace and showed a glimpse of his past self: Decisive, precise and running at pace at defenders.

We all know that when Torres is on his game, he can be an absolute nightmare for the opposition, running in behind defenders.

Chelsea supporters can only hope Torres’ form continues, as he will be a vital part in the London-based club’s plan of winning the trophies Mourinho and Club Owner Roman Abramovic desire.

He has often been compared to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer by many people aronud including Sir Alex Ferguson, for his trait of coming off the bench to score late goals.
SAF once said that “Hernandez’s style reminds me of Ole Gunnar.”
There is no doubt in the fact that Chicharito possesses great technical ability. He is quick, uses his weak foot very well, is quite good in the air and is a good finisher.
Although he has a sound technique, neither Sir Alex Ferguson nor David Moyes have given him a regular starting spot.
Since the arrival of Robin Van Persie, he has slipped further down the pecking order.
He has already hinted on a possible move away from Manchester United in order to get first team football, but it is to be seen which club he will go to.
Arsenal and Chelsea are top contenders for acquiring the services of the Mexican forward.
If he has to develop his game, he should really move to another club during the upcoming winter transfer window or the summmer one, whichever is possible.
Staying at Manchester is not going to help him at all as he would not get regular starts and his career growth will be hampered.
Man United’s Little Pea surely has to leave and he can definitely grow somewhere else.

This is what Arsene Wenger must be exclaiming in his mind after watching his team’s dream run this season.
Yeeeaaah! Yippieee! Woo Hoo!
Ever since Aaron Ramsey started scoring prodigiously and Mesut Ozil arrived in North London, Arsenal are looking unbelievably strong this season.
It is not that Arsenal were not a strong unit till now, but at the moment all the players are in fine form and the Gunners have become serious contenders for the Premier League this time around.
Mesut Ozil, as we all know, is a class act. He has become an integral part of the North Londoner’s midfield regime in just a matter of time.
Also, the return of Mathieu Flamini has added depth to the midfield options.
It is also of note that some key players are injured and will be out of action for some time now. Mathieu Flamini got injured during the home fixture against Norwich City.
The injury list also includes Theo Walcott(Abdomen), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain(Knee), Lucas Podolski(Hamstring), Yaya Sanogo(Back), Abou Diaby(Knee).
Even with so many players out injured this team isn’t looking even a bit weak. One can only imagine what effect will the return of these players have on the team.
It is obvious that it will only boost the players’ morale and take their confidence to a whole new level.
At last it should be noted that the season is still in its early stages and nothing can be said about the end result but if this team keeps playing as it is currently, it is quite possible that they will win the Premier League.

As mentioned above in the subject I would like to shed some light on Real Madrid’s poor performances in La Liga this season.
Although Real have a very good squad on the books, they have not been able to replicate their Champions League form in the national league.
Maybe it is due to the fact that the Spanish club teams have found a way to contain Real while the other European teams haven’t.
Well, whatever the reason may be, looking at the current state of the team, it seems that the players (except a few) are not taking the Liga seriously.
Real has become overly reliant on a last gasp effort to save them from a defeat or a draw.
A good squad on the books, good management, superb history, all are the recipes of a great team.
But apart from the Champions League, they have managed just an average start in the league (by their standards), winning 7, losing 1 and drawing 1 game out of a total 9 games while their local counterparts Atletico de Madrid have enjoyed a great start to the season so far, losing just 1 of the 9 matches played till now. And that record includes a victory over Real at the Santiago Bernebeau.
Moreover those 7 wins consisted a very controversial victory over Elche, in which Real were awarded a last minute penalty.
Also the 3-2 away victory over Levante wasn’t too convincing either. They let the hosts dominate them for most of the match. Had it not been for Morata and Ronaldo, both of whom scored in the dying minutes of the match, Madrid would have succumbed to a shock defeat to the hosts.
During the home fixture against Malaga, Real were dominant throughout the game but failed to finish most of the chances. Angel Di Maria helped Real gain the upper hand through a brilliant effort that found the back of the net. And later in the match Cristiano Ronaldo scored a stoppage time penalty to ensure a victory for the Los Blancos.
Now everything being said, it seems that the players are not playing according to their potential, as we haven’t seen a convincing victory for Real in La Liga for a long time now.
The players will need to step up and perform according to their price tag, otherwise Real will have to settle for an average season this year.
