Let’s see how good a coach and man manager Van Gaal is with the players that he has at his disposal.
De gea is improving but lacks presence and needs serious competition
Evra is only around for one more season and will be used sparingly
Buttner isn’t a proper full back but hes decent going forward, Van Gaal will probably give him until January to make an impression.
Evans is our best CB by a mile when fit but he’s injury prone and seems to still need a senior partner alongside him. If he doesn’t get a full season under his belt he may be moved on next summer.
Jones has potential but he needs a lot of coaching and is worryingly fragile. He will be a squad player under VG.
Smalling also needs to be alongside an experienced senior player but he seems a bit more solid and stable than Jones.
Rafael looks great going forward but lacks positional awareness and over compensates for his lack of physique by giving away too many free kicks, often in dangerous areas. Smalling is a more reliable defender imho and can be counted on to do a job at LB. Long term though I wouldn’t be surprised if VG phased Rafael out if he doesn’t get more consistent and reliable.
Carrick reads the game well and has good vision but he isn’t good or quick enough to be either CAM or DM in a team that has to be competing against the best for the top honours. I think he will be a squad player if VG gets his transfer targets.
Fletcher has been a great unsung hero for a decade at United but his health, fitness and lack of pace won’t win him many starts under VG and I think he will either retire or move in the next year or so.
Anderson will never play for United again. I wish I could say the same for Fellaini, Young and Nani. Unfortunately you cant change too many players at once otherwise we could see a dozen players leave but hopefully VG will ship them out over time and it would be no surprise to see Cleverley, Hernandez, Zaha, Welbeck, Kagawa and Valencia, go. Valencia is frustrating, if he had any real trickery and confidence in him he could be our Negredo. I can’t see him lasting more than a year unless he ups his game massively….sadly I doubt he has the ability.
If I had the budget and the players and their clubs were willing to do business this is the line up I would choose;

If ManU has real interest in Miranda then itz a complete folly. He’s 29 now & might take a season or two to settle during which he’ll be 30. Instead of Miranda coming to United We should’ve kept hold on to Vidic & sign another centre half prodigy or wait for keane & his academy graduates to come up, Vidic still has another 2 best years in him I’m sure & his absence will be sorely missed I bet.

Chris is right about evra he is to slow at gettin back but our little Raphael is hench for me the best right back in the prem but it is just transfer talk all the time wich get abit annoying if ed wood knows the players he wants then he needs to say nothing to any one get his head down and do his job don’t talk about it just make a solid offer bid what ever you want to call it just do it ed fed of reading we in for this person then the next day that person comes out and says no move to united for me. It a joke…..I was born the year fergie came in charge so all I no is united at the top winning everything so get us back on track with some signing and lvg
