Manchester United managed to prolong Manchester City’s title celebrations as they secured a stunning 3-2 comeback win at the Etihad Stadium. Vincent Kompany and Ilkay Gundogan handed a 2-0 advantage for City at the break, but a brace from Paul Pogba and a Chris Smalling strike ensured a strong second-half showing from Jose Mourinho’s men.

Player Ratings:
David de Gea – The Spain international was partially at fault for City’s second goal of the game, but made up for it with another point-blank save to deny Sergio Aguero late on – 7/10
Antonio Valencia – Needlessly have away a first-half opened which resulted in City’s opener. However, he was thereafter much comfortable with his positioning, whilst limiting the threat of Leroy Sane – 6.5/10
Eric Bailly – The Ivorian struggled to adjust to the pace of the City game during the first period, but came out after the break with a different mentality which worked to United’s benefit – 6/10
Chris Smalling – Poor with his marking of Vincent Kompany prior to City’s opening goal. However, he managed to resurrect himself with the United faithful with a powerful match-winning header – 7/10
Ashley Young – Struggling initially with the pace of Raheem Sterling on the right. Gained confidence as the game went on, and was fortuitous to have not conceded a penalty for his lunging challenge on Aguero – 6/10
Nemanja Matic – The Serbian had a rather poor display in the first-half as he struggled to get his passing game going. After the break, he moved the ball with better intent and this allowed Pogba to influence play higher up the field – 7/10
Ander Herrera – The Spaniard was tasked with the job of limiting David Silva’s movement through the game. Worked tenaciously in the derby, and provided a brilliant assist for Pogba’s opener – 7.5/10
Paul Pogba – Following a dismal first-half display, the Frenchman stepped up to change the complexion of the game. Pogba scored two goals in the space of 97 seconds, and this turned the tide in United’s favour – 8/10
Jesse Lingard – Probably one on his average displays in a long while. Lingard was nearly non-existent during the first half, and could not capitalise on his positional advantage in the second – 5.5/10
Alexis Sanchez – The Chilean appeared on course for another naive display, before turning things around. During the second period, Sanchez offered an excellent lobbed assist for United’s equaliser before another precise delivery for Smalling’s winner – 7.5/10
Romelu Lukaku – Lukaku has been so pleasing to the eye of late, but he was disappointing in the derby. Struggled to gain possession from the long-balls but his commitment and attitude remained positive through the match – 6.5/10
Substitutes:
Marcus Rashford, Scott McTominay

Manchester United strengthened their chances of finishing in the runner-up spot as they secured a 2-1 triumph over arch-rivals Liverpool in the Premier League on Saturday.
The visitors were fancied by many to push for the victory, but Jose Mourinho put in another tactical master-class which nullified the threat of the Reds’ attack.
Marcus Rashford, who had made his first Premier League start since Boxing Day, took a couple of early chances to give United a 2-0 lead within the 24th minute.
From then, United were resolute with their defending, and barring an Eric Bailly own goal during the second half, they managed to restrict Liverpool to efforts from outside the box.
Player Ratings:
David de Gea: The Spain international had a safe afternoon between the sticks, and probably deserved a clean sheet. His distribution was top-class throughout the game as United opted for a long-ball strategy from the back – 6.5/10
Antonio Valencia: The skipper had a rough time handling the right side of the defence, where Andrew Robertson and Sadio Mane found space. Would be disappointed with Mane’s cross for the equaliser which he could not intercept – 6/10
Eric Bailly: Bailly made his maiden league start of 2018, and came up with a top-class defensive performance. The Ivorian was solid for 65 minutes prior to his own-goal, and retained his focus to restrict any further damage – 7/10
Chris Smalling: A much controlled performance from the previous outing at Selhurst Park. The Englishman stood his ground, and barely allowed the Reds attack to have a clear sight on goal, barring one corner – 7/10
Ashley Young: Did an exceptional job of restricting the Premier League’s top goal-getter in Mohamed Salah. He was also fluent with his delivery to Alexis Sanchez whilst launching a counter-attack – 7/10
Nemanja Matic: The Serbian appeared to gain his confidence after his match-winning streak versus Palace. Matic was a glowing presence with his interceptions and forced Liverpool to take a wider route – 7/10
Scott McTominay: McTominay had the pressure upon him to deliver after an injury to Paul Pogba, and he managed to step up to the plate. The Anglo-Scot produced a truly inspiring performance in the first-half, but had to grind it out during the second – 7/10
Juan Mata: The Spaniard was not in the best of form, but nevertheless moved the ball quickly with precision on the attack. Should have notched United’s third goal after a wonderful cross from Alexis Sanchez – 6/10
Alexis Sanchez: Sanchez was offered a free role in the United attack front, and the Chilean managed to make a series of accurate passes during the game. Should have earned an assist at the least but Mata missed a glorious scoring opportunity – 7/10
Marcus Rashford: Rashford has had a tough time on the break of late, and he did not disappointed with his rare start in 2018. The youngster had the better of Liverpool’s Alexander-Arnold and netted a quick brace to put United at an early advantage – 7.5/10
Romelu Lukaku: The Belgium international has been brilliant with his link-up play of late, and was hugely influential with a headed assist for Rashford’s opener. The Belgian was also indirectly involved in Rashford’s second after winning a physical battle with Dejan Lovren – 7/10
Substitutes:
Marouane Fellaini, Jesse Lingard, Matteo Darmian

Brighton & Hove Albion piled further pressure on manager Arsene Wenger as Arsenal succumbed to their third straight Premier League defeat.
The Gunners once more lacked discipline in the defensive department, and it ultimately came to haunt them with goals from Lewis Dunk and Glenn Murray handing the Seagulls a 2-1 triumph. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang tapped in the consolation for the Gunners, prior to the half-time break.
Player Ratings:
Petr Cech: Another average performance from the Gunners number one, who seems to have caught up with his trailing age. The Czech was at blame for the second goal, in particular, where he failed to stop Murray’s headed-effort which was within his grasp – 4/10
Calum Chambers: Brought into the lineup ahead of Hector Bellerin. The Englishman lacked the attacking presence of his counterpart, and struggled to find the final cross on a number of occasions. Was behind the eight ball with José Izquierdo tending to be a menace on the left side of the attack – 5/10
Sead Kolasinac: The Bosnian played in place of the injured Nacho Monreal, but he did little in the attack front. The left-back should have been sent off for a reckless challenge on Ezequiel Schelotto in the second period, and was lucky to have escaped without a second yellow – 5/10
Laurent Koscielny: The captain has come under stick for the lack of organisation, and he probably has to take part of the blame for another lacklustre display on the road. Had a tough afternoon with Murray posing a physical threat throughout – 5.5/10
Shkodran Mustafi: The German has likewise dropped off since the League Cup final, where he was largely at blame for the opening goal. Mustafi took the responsibility of defending against Murray prior to Brighton’s second, but failed to stop the cross – 5/10
Jack Wilshere: Despite not producing a scintillating attacking display, Wilshere tried his best to get the Gunners back into the game with his tireless intrinsic passing. Unfortunately his teammates were not in sync – 6/10
Granit Xhaka: Another average performance from the Swiss international, who has surprisingly been ever-present in the Premier League. Xhaka lacked the mobility whilst defending Brighton’s efforts, especially from set-pieces. Assisted Aubameyang’s goal.- 5/10
Alex Iwobi: The Nigerian has one of his days to forget. The left-sided winger was largely a passenger over the course of the game, and he was eventually substituted for Danny Welbeck in the second period – 4.5/10
Mesut Ozil: Ozil tried to find an outlet with his passing game, but unfortunately his decision-making was just too slow. The German had one genuine attempt on target which Matt Ryan intercepted – 5.5/10
Henrikh Mkhitaryan: Probably the second-best player on the pitch after Aubameyang. The Armenian tried to make something out of the possession, but could not find the key pass for his striker to take advantage of – 6/10
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang: The Gabon international had limited service upfront, but he made the most of his chances. Scored the opening goal with a lovely tap-in, and nearly setup his teammates for the leveller – 6.5/10
Substitutes:
Danny Welbeck
Eddie Nketiah
Hector Bellerin
