Wales, the world’s 26th ranked team, collided against Belgium, the highest ranked European side, in the quarter final of the European Championships last night.
The impressive Welsh team, led by Ashley Williams, came back from a goal down to oust the Belgian Red Devils. It was not about luck at all but the sheer will of a unified side that deservedly eliminated the world’s 2nd ranked team from the competition.
Belgium dominated the opening proceedings and took the lead thanks to a stunning goal scored by Roma star Radja Nainggolan in the 13th minute.
However, after going a goal down, Chris Coleman’s men bounced back and constantly piled pressure on the Belgian defense. In the 31st minute, Ramsey’s delivery from the corner found Ashley Williams completely unmarked and the captain headed the ball in the net to equalize for Wales.
Belgium started the second half impressively as well but once again Wales responded in style. In the 55th minute, Robson-Kanu’s brilliant Cruyff turn shocked the Belgian defense and the 27-year-old attacker scored to give Wales the lead.
The Red Devils pushed for an equalizer but the Welsh side were in no mood of inviting pressure. Belgians were left hopeless when Vokes scored the third goal with a brilliant header to book Wales’ first ever semi final place in a major competition.
