Chelsea striker Fernando Torres bagged his third International hat-trick for Spain as Tahiti were dismantled by the World and European Champions 10-0 on the night in Fifa Confederations Cup.
La Roja started the tournament in brilliant fashion against a top team like Uruguay. Although the 2-1 scoreline against the South American champions seems a decent one but in reality the Europeans were completely dominant, having more than 65 percent possession. Tahiti were always going to fear the worst after that.
The Spaniards were in blistering form and could have easily scored more had they taken majority of their chances. Adding to that, Torres might have scored 5 but he missed one penalty.
Nevertheless, the number 9 scored 4 goals in a game for the first time in his career and ensured Spain’s qualification into last 4.
Torres scored his last hatrick in the Confederations Cup as well. Back in 2009, Torres ripped New Zealand apart in the first game where Spain won 5-0 on the night.
His first hatrick for the national side came way back in 2005 against San Marino in World Cup Qualifiers.
How many times have we heard the phrase “Torres is back” after a rare quality performance from the Spaniard. El Nino was by far the man of the match on the night however; can a superb performance against 138th ranked Tahiti impress Jose Mourinho? May be not, but probably yes if this prolific form continues in the competition.
