The Polish side took the lead in the first half thanks to Borussia Dortmund attacker Jakub Blaszczykowski. However, late on in the second half, Stoke City’s Xherdan Shaqiri equalized the tie with an absolutely stunning goal for Switzerland.
The former Bayern Munich playmaker fired in the most perfect scissor’s kick from distance to beat Fabianski in the 82nd minute. Without doubt, Shaqiri’s strike is the goal of the tournament so far.
Eventually, the Swiss side lost the game on penalties. Arsenal’s new summer signing Granit Xhaka was the only player to miss the spot kick. Poland will face Portugal in the last eight.
Here is the vine of that stunning Shaqiri strike provided below.
The versatile midfielder was up against his new Arsenal team-mates Koscileny and Giroud in the last night’s Euro 2016 fixture between France and Switzerland.
The game ended in a mundane 0-0 draw. Both teams have qualified for the Round of 16 stage of the tournament.
After the final whistle, the new Gunner star Xhaka went on to introduce himself to his new Arsenal teammate Olivier Giroud and the duo struck up instant bromance much to the delight of the Arsenal supporters.
The picture and GIF of their embrace at full time are provided below.
The performances from both sides were average in a mundane game, almost as if they were content with the draw even before the start of the game.
France came to life only when in form playmaker Payet was brought on. The West Ham star struck the post with a brilliant volley late on in the game.
Other than that, Swiss players shirts getting ripped off three times and the football getting burst were probably the key highlights of last night’s game.
Here are the video highlights provided below.
Today’s encounter may as well ensure qualification for the winner.
The last time these two teams met in the World Cup was back in 2006 and the match ended in a 0-0 stalemate.
As far as France’s team news is concerned, expect Arsenal stars Koscielny, Giroud and former Gunner Sagna to remain on the bench again as players like Sakho, Benzema and Debuchy performed well enough to retain their place.
Here is France’s probable starting XI formation vs Switzerland.
