However, a brilliant team performance by Coleman’s men against Russia would have surely silenced the critics.
Apart from the Real Madrid playmaker Bale, the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Joe Allen and Neil Taylor impressed big time for the Welsh side last night.
Ramsey scored a sublime goal in the first half and provided a brilliant ball in the second 45 minutes to set up Gareth Bale.
The Arsenal star deservedly won the Man of the Match award. Picture confirmation was provided by the official UEFA Euro 2016 twitter account.
However, last night, England returned the favor by failing to win their game against Slovakia. On the other hand, Wales ripped the Russians apart 3-0 to win Group B.
Wales took the lead early on in the game thanks to Ramsey. Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen found Aaron with a brilliant ball from the half way mark and the Arsenal star brilliantly chipped the ball over the goalie to score.
Minutes later, Neil Taylor scored his first goal for the country to double the advantage for the Welsh side inside the first twenty minutes.
The third goal was scored by none other than star playmaker Gareth Bale in the second half. The Real Madrid superstar is the seventh player in the history of the competition to score in every group game.
As group winners, the side led by Chris Coleman will now go to Paris and battle the highest-ranked third-placed team from one of groups A, C or D in the Round of 16.
The highlights of the game between Wales and Russia are provided below.
Roy Hodgson’s men were minutes away from changing that last night but then Russia made sure that the record remains in tact by scoring a late equalizer.
The Three Lions had more than a few decent chances to open the scoring in the first half but wasted them.
In the end, Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier gave them the lead with a brilliant free kick goal in the 73rd minute. However, the England defense could not hold on and Berezutski leveled the tie in injury time.

England will take on Russia in their opening Euro 2016 contest tomorrow night and the Three Lions are expected to earn all three points.
Roy Hodgson’s squad is the youngest in the competition, with only four survivors from Euro 2012. According to 888sport Euro odds, England are favorites to beat the Russian side.
As far as the team news is concerned, Tottenham star striker Harry Kane will be the key star to watch in the English team.
The Premier League top scorer is expected to start, however, it remains to be seen whether he will start as the lone striker up front or with Leicester City star striker Jamie Vardy.
Not to forget, the likes of Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool) and Marcus Rashford (Manchester United) are available in the strike-force as well and Hodgson has to deal with a huge selection dilemma. Manchester United and Engalnd skipper Wayne Rooney will probably have to start in the midfield or behind the striker.
As far as the Russian team news is concerned, key players such as the likes of Alan Dzagoev and Igor Denisov are out. The 32-year-old defensive midfielder was ruled out of the competition this week due to a thigh concern.
His presence was much needed to provide a strong cover in front of the back line, however, manager Leonid Slutsky now faces a huge dilemma against a strong attacking side.
In the absence of experienced Igor Denisov, Captain Roman Shirokov will have to step up big time in the center of the park. The veteran CSKA Moscow star has scored 13 goals in 54 appearances for the national side.
Zenit St. Petersburg forward Artem Dzyuba will be the key man to watch for the Sbornaya. The 27-year-old striker scored 23 goals and provided 12 assists in 44 games for the Russian club last season (Transfermarkt).
Who will come out on top?
Belgium left it late to score the goal that has taken them to the knock out rounds of the World Cup.
Chelsea star Eden Hazard was ineffective for most part of the game but came to life in the dying minutes as his brilliant run down the left flank cute Russian defense apart and his final ball set up substitute Origi who scored.
Russia find themselves on the brink of World Cup elimination and depend on results from other fixtures.
Here is the Vine of the brilliant run and goal provided below.

The domestic season may well have just come to a close, but now a lot of attention now turns to something completely different that is happening this summer. The UEFA Under-21 Championships that take place in Israel next month.
While this tournament does take place every two years, more interest is generated in it when it takes place only a year before The World Cup as it gives any fans watching a great opportunity to see young players performing for their respective countries youth side and any player that performs well at this tournament might then be considered one to watch at the biggest competition in the world the following summer.
In 2009, the tournament was held in Sweden and won by Germany who demolished England 4-0 in the final. The German squad that year included players like Manuel Neuer, Sami Khedira and Mesut Ozil who went on to feature for the main squad at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa the following summer and they all played a key part in getting them to the semi-finals where they lost 1-0 to eventual winners Spain.
Out of the 8 nations participating this year, 7 of the squads have already been announced. Players such as Fabio Borini, Lewis Holtby and David De Gea who are well known to Premier League fans will all be representing Italy, Germany and Spain respectively whilst other well known players that play in Europe including Marco Verratti and Isco are also taking part. It is the perfect chance for the players involved to make a name for themselves and perhaps even earn the chance to play for a bigger club next season as well as being considered a potential key player at next year’s World Cup.
With regards to England coach Stuart Pearce’s selections for his side. Many talented players such as Luke Shaw, Tom Ince and Wilfried Zaha are all travelling to Israel to take part and will hopefully be able to have a big impact. I can’t really say at the moment whether or not I think they will win the competition or not as I need to see them play first, the chances may have been slightly higher if players such as Phil Jones, Jack Wilshere and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain were taking part, but Jones and Chamberlain will both be featuring in the senior sides upcoming friendly games while Wilshere is unavailable for both teams due to ankle surgery. The side going to Israel is a decent one but even if they don’t get to the final and win, if most of the players can live up to expectations, the belief will still be there that those players can go on and potentially play a key part in an England World Cup campaign next year providing they encounter no more glitches in qualifying.
With less than two weeks to go until the first game, England, Germany, Holland, Israel, Italy, Norway, Russia and Spain will all be hoping that victory in this competition will be seen as a sign of greater things to come for the foreseeable future. The stage is set for what will hopefully be a great tournament that exceeds all expectations and provides us all with players to talk about who could potentially be shining stars at the greatly anticipated Fifa World Cup in Brazil next year.

It seems like only yesterday that Tshabalala was rocketing one into the top right corner in South Africa to score the first goal of the 2010 World Cup. Three years have passed, however, and the biggest sporting event in the world is only around the corner.
Brazil, Spain, Argentina, Germany, Holland, France, Italy, Portugal, and even England are a handful of the countries which are favourites to take that shiny gold trophy back to their capital. However, what about Mexico, Belgium, Chile, Nigeria et al?
Here are a few dark horses for the 2014 World Cup who I believe could go far, or even win the whole kaboodle.

A squad boasting an array of talents. Solid at the back there’s Vincent Kompany, Thomas Vermaelen, and Jan Verthongen, not to mention the slowest player in the world, bar Mertesacker; Van Buyten. It doesn’t stop there, this Premier League Belgium combination continues with the likes of Moussa Dembele, Marouane Fellaini, Eden Hazard, Kevin Mirallas, and the in-form Romelu Lukaku, as well as Benteke! Stir in the likes of Axel Witsel, and Thibaut Courtois, and that’s not a bad team at all.
Up to date, this Belgium side have been unable to properly gel, and have lacked a fully fledged goalscorer. However. This season Romelu Lukaku, the Chelsea loanee, has scored 13 goals, as has Christian Benteke for Villa. Surely, if Belgium’s key problem up until now was that they could carve out an opportunity from anywhere, but just weren’t clinical enough, and now they have two strikers who have scored a bunch of goals this season, then they must be contenders? The only problem is that both these strikers are fairly young, and consistency is hard to come by if you’re young.
Nonetheless, add a good goalkeeper, a solid defence, a creative midfield, and a possibly clinical attack and you’ve got a remedy for success, surely? Only time will tell, but definitely do not rule out this young, prosperous side.
Current Position in Qualifying: Sitting atop group A on 16 points lie Belgium, along with joint top side Croatia – who are also another dark horse who always do well at major competitions.

Along with star man David Alaba, Austria are beginning to assemble a nice looking blend of promising young talent, similar to Belgium, and experienced players. Aleksander Dragovic, Marko Arnautovic, and David Alaba are all very young, and very good. The team is also balanced with what every good team needs – a good spine. With centre-back Emanuel Pogatetz, Shalke player Christian Fuchs, and striker Stefan Maierhofer who provide grit and experience.
Austria play nice football, and similarly to Belgium have a generally young team, although fairly unproven, who can do damage, it will be interesting to see how they do in Brazil if they get there.
Current Position in Qualifying: Thanks to a last gasp equaliser from Alaba against Ireland recently, Austria remain second in Group B, but; as do two other teams: Ireland, and Sweden, who are also strong. One things for sure, they’re not catching Germany, who are on 16 points in first, double Austria’s total.

Russia looked certain to go far in the Euros after an impressing start, but somehow didn’t manage to get out their group. However, equipped with new coach Fabio Capello (chortle) they could be set to do very well in 2014.
Russia rely on counter-attacks, started by Igor Denisov and the centralised, lazy, but extremely talented, Andriy Arshavin. They are also fairly prolific infront of goal, despite Kerzhakov not being able to finish his dinner at the Euros. Their only weakness is lapses in concentration defensively, which cost them silly goals in big games. Not to mention the game against Poland in the Euros!
Current Position in Qualifying: With a now prolific Kerzhakov, with 3 goals in qualifying and having won all their games in qualifying, Russia look set to qualify ahead of Israel and Portugal, who are level on 11 points; one behind Russia.

For the first time in a long while, Columbian football is shining bright. The team can count on European stars James Rodriguez of FC Porto, Fredy Guarin of Inter, and of course the one and only Radamel Falcao of Atletico Madrid to shine bright like the Columbian flag.
At the Copa America, Columbia showed some quality, but surprisingly tumbled out in the quarters to Peru. They will be happy to reach the quarters at the World Cup, and it’s possible.
With experience at the back in Milan defender Yepes and Zapata, as well as Perea (who is liable to mistakes) Columbia look fairly solid, and with a good goalkeeper. But going forward they are devastating, Falcao, Rodriguez, and striker Gutierrez are an elusive front three which could certainly cause Joleon Lescott a problem or two. However, lack of experience may be their undoing.
Current Position in Qualifying: Sitting third in South American qualification, on 19 points, Columbia have a very good chance of making the short trip to Brazil in 2014.
So there we go, four teams which may cause an upset in 2014, out of any of them, i’m keen on Belgium, but we’ll have to wait and see. Jeez, how long until next year, are we there yet?

Ex-Chelsea boss Luiz Felipe Scolari will return to Stamford Bridge to face in form Russian side lead by former England manager, Fabio Capello. Russia and Brazil have locked horns no less than 10 times and the Europeans have never beaten the South Americans still, Russians are favorites against Brazil tonight.
Brazil have defeated Russia eight times, 5 in friendlies and 3 times in FIFA World Cups but their current form has been quite mediocre. Selecao have won only once in their last five outings, way back in October 2012 when they defeated Japan 4-0.
Since Menez’s departure, Luiz Felipe Scolari has managed Brazil in two friendlies and still waits for his first win of the second tenure as his country’s manager. His side lost to England 2-1 last month and let slip 2 goals advantage against Italy few days back to only earn a draw.
On the other hand, Russians have been quite fantastic under the new manager. Since getting eliminated in Euro 2012, they have not lost a single match. In fact, Capello has managed 7 games and emerged victorious in 5 of them.
Currently Russia sit on top of their World Cup qualifying group with 4 wins in 4 games. Adding to that, like all Italian managers, Capello has been able to turn Russia into a rock solid defensive side as they have not yet conceded a single goal in the WC Qualification group.
Brazilians may have brilliant individual talent but for now their team chemistry has been average. On the other hand, the only negative point for Russia’s preparation might be the cancellation of game against Ireland as they last played on February 6 versus Iceland where they won 2-0.
Will Scolari finally win his first game since re-signing with Selecao in Noevember? Or Will Fabio Capello continue his unbeaten run with the Russian side? We shall have the answer tonight.
