Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal seems too heavily interested in bringing his compatriot Nigel de Jong to Old Trafford.
The former Manchester City star is the strong defensive midfield star Van Gaal wants in his squad and as per reports, it can safely be said that the deal is almost done.
According to Mirror, Nigel de Jong has rejected a contract extension with his current club AC Milan and is ready to return to Manchester, this time to join the Red Devils.
Van Gaal knows all about the qualities of de Jong as the former citizen star was a key member of Netherlands squad in Brazil last year under the management of Man United boss.
As per the provided link, United have held talks with the representatives of Nigel de Jong who are looking to seal a deal of €5.5million a year for the 30 year old star.
Not just that, Mirror claim that Louis van Gaal has absolutely no problem with the demands and the club is willing to match that for de Jong to seal Manchester United move.
In such a scenario, with all things going according to plan, United must not waste more time in securing the deal for de Jong who will arrive as a free agent.
Currently, United do have Blind and Carrick for DM role but they are better at deep lying playmaking and none of them is as solid a holding midfielder as de Jong.

Without any doubt, the most important signing Manchester United have to make in the next transfer window is that of a quality central defender.

Vlaar who joined the English premier league side in 2012 was a key member of the Netherlands’ defensive setup that were brilliant during the World Cup in Brazil.
Van Gaal is well aware of Ron’s qualities and as per reports, Manchester United are confident of landing him in the winter.
With Vlaar’s contract expiring at the end of this season and him not renewing any deal with Villa for now means that United can secure his services for a cut price of 4 million pounds.

World Cup 2014 – Team of the Tournament

The biggest show on earth finally reached its climax as Germans won their 4th World Cup crown beating Argentina 1-0 in the final.
Without a shadow of a doubt, the best team eventually won the game’s biggest prize but the South Americans did put a up a brilliant fight.
The competition has produced many surprises and top performances which makes the team of the tournament selection somewhat complex but here are names who make our team.
Goalie
There were more than a few world class performers as far as goalkeeping is concerned but Neuer wins the place with the Germans winning the ultimate prize and Bayern star was arguably the best goalie in the knockout rounds.
Defense
Having played the first four games as a midfielder, Lahm was shifted back to fullback position in the quarterfinals and from then onwards was perhaps flawless. Borussia Dortmund center half Mats Hummels was perhaps the best defender in the competition. Not only was he solid at the back, but also scored two crucial goals for his side as well.
Joining him in the central defense is Costa Rica star Giancarlo Gonzalez. The North Americans conceded only a single goal from open play and kept clean sheets against teams like England, Italy and Netherlands. All down to brilliant defense and Gonzalez was at the heart.
Dutch star Blind rose to fame in the first game against Spain, not for his defensive strength but his two brilliant passes that set up goals for Van Persie and Robben. Netherlands conceded only a single goal in the KO rounds and Blind was strong as ever.
Midfield
There was no better defensive midfielder than Argentine Javier Mascherano. Played mostly as a center back for Barcelona all season with no consistency at the back, Masch produced stunning performances to take pressure off defense that was considered weak before the start of the tournament. By far, he was the best Argentine player in the World Cup.
Toni Kroos and Bastian Schweinsteiger were the main reason why Germany dominated midfield battle against every team and although the former played better in the quarter and semi finals, Schweni makes our list for his outstanding display in the final. Kroos was off his game while Schweinsteiger provided the much needed leadership in the midfield.
Attack
As an individual, there was no better player than James Rodriguez. Won the golden boot with 6 goals. Sadly, Colombians lost in the quarter finals or else he might have won the Golden Ball as well. Arjen Robben was the standout attacker for Netherlands, especially in the KO rounds where other experienced Dutch players were far from their best.
Messi won the player of the tournament prize. Whether he deserved it or not is another argument but the captain lead from the front. He won four man of the match awards in the first four games and was easily the best Argentine playmaker and deserves his place in the team of the tournament.
German forward Muller makes the list as a lone forward. Once again, the Bayern star netted 5 goals in the World Cup, also provided 3 assists as well. Technically not considered amongst the very best but without doubt the most effective player who always turned up.

What Went Wrong for Louis van Gaal & Netherlands

Louis van Gaal will manage his final game for Netherlands when the nation faces hosts Brazil in the 3rd place play-off.
The experienced manager will then be off to join his new team Manchester United and prepare them for next season.
When the Dutch absolutely dismantled reigning world champions Spain in their opening game, many fans expected that this could be their year to lift the World Cup.
However, once again the three time World Cup finalists could not deliver and were ousted by Argentina on penalties in the semis.
Without doubt, Netherlands were the best side in the world cup during the group stages. Not only did they win all their games in a difficult group, the Dutch scored highest number of goals (10) as well.
However, in the Knockout rounds, late goals somehow helped the Dutch past Mexico in the last 16 but they could not even score a single goal in the next two games and eventually bowed out on penalties.
Van Gaal shifted to more defensive approach, not only that, his best players turned off as well. The manager was praised for bringing Tim Krul on for the shootout against Costa Rica but what most failed to comment on was that the Americans out-tacticed Netherlands for 120 minutes.
The likes of England, Italy and Netherlands were not able to score against Costa Rica, Uruguay only scored from a penalty kick while Greece were the only ones to score from open play against them.
Robin van Persie was normally found sulking in offside positions and did not really turn up (was not fully fit) in the KO games. Wesley Sneijder was far from him best as well.
Once again, against Argentina, Van Gaal focused more on defense keeping a strong back line with 2 wing backs of which only Kuyt went forward at times to help in attack. Else, too much responsibility rested on the shoulders of Arjen Robben and there is so much one can do at times.
Nevertheless, United supporters know that they are getting one of the best managers in the world but perhaps this will be Van Gaal’s biggest and most difficult job.

Moreover, Brazil’s tendency to go all out attack did not help either, especially after conceding as Germans played on the counter and manipulated everything.
Hence, expect Brazil to change their tactics and focus more on defense to help redeem some pride and end the tournament with a win for supporters.
On the other hand, Netherlands may change their approach as well. The Dutch were the best attacking side in the group stages as they scored 10 goals, 5 against the World Champions Spain.
However, going into the Knock-out rounds, for some reason Van Gaal focused more on the defensive side.
Although Netherlands did concede only one goal in KO rounds (against Mexico), they could score only 2 goals. They failed to score in the quarter and semi finals as the games were eventually decided on penalties.
Van Gaal may make few changes in the starting XI but expect the Dutch are well aware of Brazil’s defensive fragility and must attack to exploit like the Germans did.
