Highlights – Argentina Knock Colombia out of the Copa America

Argentina followed Chile and Peru to qualify for the semi finals of the Copa America after beating Colombia on penalties.
The White and Blues were dominant through out the game and created more chances but to no avail as the game remained goalless in normal time as well as extra time.
Colombia were mundane all game and were only in the contest because of Arsenal star goalie David Ospina who saved them on numerous occasions. Notably, Ospina made a brilliant double save in the first half and a vital save from Otamendi to keep Colombia in the game.
The spot kicks started with perfect finishes until Luis Muriel blasted one over the post in the orbit. Lavezzi did give La Albiceleste advantage but Biglia then placed his penalty well wide to send the shoot out into sudden death.
Colombians failed to convert both their spot kicks in sudden death. Rojo could not take advantage of the first, however Tevez made no mistake, slotted the ball in the net to earn Argentina a place in the last four. Argentina will now face the winner of tonight’s game between Brazil and Paraguay.

Vine – Colombian Star Murillo Ends Brazil's Winning Streak

Colombia were knocked out of the FIFA World Cup last year by Brazil as the Selecao defeated them 2-1 on the night.
Jose Pekerman’s side had revenge on their minds as the two sides collided few hours back in the Copa America group stage.
Brazillian have been on a brilliant run since getting humiliated at the hands of World champions Germany in the semi final of the World Cup. Dunga’s men had won every single match since but now the winning streak is over thanks to Jeison Murillo’s goal that proved to be enough to earn Colombia victory.
Brazil have not been able to find their groove yet. Even in the first game they needed an injury time goal to secure all three points.
The attack did not work and defensive fragility cost Samba stars the game. Cuadrado’s looping ball was not dealt with in the box and Murillo took advantage to score the only goal of the game in the 36th minute.

Not to forget, despite all the ups and downs, Falcao was chosen as the captain of Colombia for the competition and has the support of two more star strikers in the form of Carlos Bacca and Jackson Martinez.
Reflecting on himself, Falcao stated:

“Being the recognisable face of the players makes me proud, and also the responsibility”
“Today I am a more complete footballer, and if I don’t score goals or as many goals as before they say that is not the same Falcao. But if Falcao scores, they say that Falcao is back. But Falcao has never left. It depends from what point of view you measure Falcao.”

He is still regarded as one of the best finishers around and Copa America provides him the perfect stage to find his best form back.

Chelsea Manager Ready to make Manchester United Regret

The Red Devils opted not to make the move permanent as Falcao left United at the end of the season.
Falcao’s goalscoring record is sensational for Porto and Atletico Madrid and he is still a class player. Jose Mourinho is well aware of that as he saw how brilliant Radamel was for Atletico when the Portuguese manager was at Real Madrid.
Blues have been linked to sign Radamel Falcao this summer and Chelsea manager is ready to make Manchester United regret after confirming the interest by claiming that he can revive the star striker and get the best out of him.
Mourinho stated:

“It really hurts me that people in England believe that Falcao is the guy they saw at Manchester United.
“He’s a player I know, one that I’ve followed since Atletico Madrid and if I can help Falcao arrive at his level I will do it.”

Falcao has been scoring regularly for the national side and will captain Colombia in the Copa America that starts tonight as Chile will face Ecuador.

Mourinho is targeting signing a striker this summer and it may well be Falcao.
The South American superstar was on the score-sheet for the national side when Colombia faced Costa Rica in a friendly game.

His past record speaks out loud that he is one of the best strikers in the world, but the current situation is not very good and hence the main question is that whether spending that huge amount on Falcao is worth it or not?
Since completing his big money loan move to Manchester United, Falcao has featured in 5 games.
However, the former Porto and Atletico hitman has not completed 90 minutes in even a single game.
Falcao missed major part of last season and did not even go to Brazil WC because of injury.
Perhaps Manchester United did not want to rush him too early but even handling with care has not helped as he is out again with injury, missed the game against Chelsea and will also be out of the all important derby against Manchester City.
Falcao is not getting any younger and his injury concerns are already haunting United yet they want to make his signing permanent by splashing heavy cash.

World Cup 2014 – Team of the Tournament

The biggest show on earth finally reached its climax as Germans won their 4th World Cup crown beating Argentina 1-0 in the final.
Without a shadow of a doubt, the best team eventually won the game’s biggest prize but the South Americans did put a up a brilliant fight.
The competition has produced many surprises and top performances which makes the team of the tournament selection somewhat complex but here are names who make our team.
Goalie
There were more than a few world class performers as far as goalkeeping is concerned but Neuer wins the place with the Germans winning the ultimate prize and Bayern star was arguably the best goalie in the knockout rounds.
Defense
Having played the first four games as a midfielder, Lahm was shifted back to fullback position in the quarterfinals and from then onwards was perhaps flawless. Borussia Dortmund center half Mats Hummels was perhaps the best defender in the competition. Not only was he solid at the back, but also scored two crucial goals for his side as well.
Joining him in the central defense is Costa Rica star Giancarlo Gonzalez. The North Americans conceded only a single goal from open play and kept clean sheets against teams like England, Italy and Netherlands. All down to brilliant defense and Gonzalez was at the heart.
Dutch star Blind rose to fame in the first game against Spain, not for his defensive strength but his two brilliant passes that set up goals for Van Persie and Robben. Netherlands conceded only a single goal in the KO rounds and Blind was strong as ever.
Midfield
There was no better defensive midfielder than Argentine Javier Mascherano. Played mostly as a center back for Barcelona all season with no consistency at the back, Masch produced stunning performances to take pressure off defense that was considered weak before the start of the tournament. By far, he was the best Argentine player in the World Cup.
Toni Kroos and Bastian Schweinsteiger were the main reason why Germany dominated midfield battle against every team and although the former played better in the quarter and semi finals, Schweni makes our list for his outstanding display in the final. Kroos was off his game while Schweinsteiger provided the much needed leadership in the midfield.
Attack
As an individual, there was no better player than James Rodriguez. Won the golden boot with 6 goals. Sadly, Colombians lost in the quarter finals or else he might have won the Golden Ball as well. Arjen Robben was the standout attacker for Netherlands, especially in the KO rounds where other experienced Dutch players were far from their best.
Messi won the player of the tournament prize. Whether he deserved it or not is another argument but the captain lead from the front. He won four man of the match awards in the first four games and was easily the best Argentine playmaker and deserves his place in the team of the tournament.
German forward Muller makes the list as a lone forward. Once again, the Bayern star netted 5 goals in the World Cup, also provided 3 assists as well. Technically not considered amongst the very best but without doubt the most effective player who always turned up.
