Expect Arsenal to Break Transfer Record Twice?

There is nothing new that Arsenal football club is linked with top players. That happens in every transfer window. However, they normally fail to lure transfer targets for one reason or the other. Likewise, gunners have not yet completed a single big name signing this summer and fans are getting desperate.
Nevertheless, for now, reports suggest that Arsenal are close to signing two top stars and in that process Wenger is likely to break the transfer record twice. Brazilian and Atletico Mineiro winger Bernard and Liverpool superstar Luis Suarez are reportedly edging closer to becoming a gunner.
Arsenal current transfer record of 15 million pounds was set in 2009 when the Londoners splashed the amount to sign Russian playmaker Andrei Arshavin
Since then, Wenger has normally focused more on buying youngsters and for worst the club sold star players without replacing them.
Gunners are ready to pay a reported sum of 21 million pounds to secure the services of Bernard who contributed directly in 27 goals last season. Adding to that, he played two cameos for the Brazilian national side in the Confederations Cup as well.
On the other hand, Liverpool have rejected Arsenal’s bid for Uruguayan Luis Suarez but reports suggest that Londonders are not giving up on their pursuit and will come up with a 40 million pounds that may as well be enough to lure the prolific striker.
The question remains, Should gunner supporters expect that Arsenal will break transfer record twice this simmer with the above mentioned amounts? Is it really possible?
Fans hope that they will not be disappointed, promises will be fulfilled and big name players will sign for the club this time around without letting one of their own star players leave the club. For now, they are waiting with their fingers crossed.

Arsenal Angle – Bernard was Never an Option

Another day, another rumor, that is how it continues for Arsenal football club. The gunner supporters are still waiting for the first big name signing, when will that happen, only time will tell. For now, Arsene Wenger has ruined the excitement of fans who were thinking that Brazilian Bernard was close to signing for Arsenal.
Rumors suggested that the Londoners have agreed a fee for the talented Atletico Mineiro winger, however the Arsenal boss has come up to remove all the doubts by claiming that the club is not chasing Bernard.
Wenger told Mirror:

“That report (about Bernard) is not true”

Realistically, Bernard was never an option. Yes, he could have added more quality and depth to the lineup, still Arsenal already have quality midfield players at their disposal and they need reinforcements in other significant positions.
Bernard can play on both flanks and at Arsenal both are occupied by top class players who will be regular starters next season.
Lukas Podolski normally starts on the left flank and Theo Walcott on the right. They do shift positions but that will rarely be the case if Arsene signs a top quality striker, someone that Arsenal badly need. Liverpool’s Luis Suarez can surely do wonders but signing him is easier said than done.
On the other hand, gunners do have young Oxlade Chamberlain who has been one of the brightest talents in the premier league. Adding to that, at times, player of the year Cazorla shifts on the wings as well.
Goes without saying that Bernard is quality, but getting a player for a position where you already have adequate depth at the expense of a position where you don’t will not make any sense, may that be football or business. As already mentioned, the wait for Arsenal fans continue.

Liverpool’s pre-season tour has started against Preston, a game the reds comfortably won 4-0 with goals scored by Coutinho, Ibe, Sterling and Aspas. The new boys were on the show for the merseysiders but Rodgers wants more signings before the transfer window ends next month.
One position the Liverpool manager is keen to strengthen is attacking midfield. Rodgers failed to lure Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Shakhtar who departed for German club Borussia Dortmund. The reds will now look to sign an alternative and two top targets linked for the position are Bernard and Eriksen.

The 20 year old has been a sensation in Brazil in the last calendar year. Known for his blistering pace and energy, the Atletico Mineiro winger did wonders with his club last season and is now wanted by major clubs.
This year, the Seleccao midfielder featured in 10 Copa Libertadores games for the club, scored 4 goals (183 minutes per goal) and provided 1 assist.
Able to play on both flanks, Bernard was the youngest member of the national side who won the Confederations Cup recently by beating La Roja in the final 3-0. He made two appearances in the competition against 2006 World Cup winners Italy and South American champions Uruguay.
Last year in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, he featured in 36 games for Atletico MIneiro, scored 11 goals (281 minutes per goal) and provided 12 assists.
The idea of Coutinho and Bernard occupying Liverpool’s wing positions can be mouthwatering prospect for the fans. It remains to be seen whether the reds show serious intent to sign the youngster and whether owner will sanction around 15 million to lure him to Anfield or not.

The Danish star is one player Liverpool have been scouting for some time. Back in March, Overmars confirmed that Reds have been monitoring Christian Eriksen. The Dane is one of the brightest young talents of the game right now.
The 21 year old midfielder has won three Eredivisie titles in a row with Ajax and perhaps now it is time to move on in a tougher league. Last season Eriksen scored 14 goals in all competitions for club and country and also provided 24 assists as well.
He was one of the star players for Ajax and helped them win the title with 10 goals and 17 assists in the Dutch league last season. Adding to that, the youngster also scored a goal and added 4 assists in UEFA Champions League for Ajax.
His quality has drawn interest from top European clubs. Dortmund were looking to sign him as well but instead they opted to land Mkhitaryan and perhaps that move has now put Liverpool in pole position to sign Danish maestro.

Lately, Brazil utilized the midfielder on the left wing against Italy and on the right wing against the South American champions where he completely changed flow of the game after coming on as substitute in place of Hulk.
Brendan Rodgers and Liverpool can benefit from the prospect of both Brazilians playing on the wings, whereby Coutinho is brilliant with his touches, skills and passes and Bernard is renowned for his blistering speed and energy.
