Chile and Argentina collided in a boring contest and the match was once again decided on penalties.
Bayern Munich star Arturo Vidal missed the opening spot kick and Messi had the golden chance to give Argentina the lead in the shootout. However, the Barcelona superstar blasted the ball over the bar.
Afterwards, Claudio Bravo brilliantly saved Lucas Biglia’s penalty kick and then Silva stepped up to convert his and win the coveted prize for Chile yet again. For the third time in as many years, Argentine have lost a major final and Messi was absolutely inconsolable.
Chile become the first team to win the Copa America in back to back years since Argentina did it in 1946 and 1947.
Here is the picture of Claudio Bravo lifting the Copa America trophy.
Goals from Lavezzi, Messi and Higuain were enough to seal the victory.
Messi is now Argentina’s all time record goalscorer after netting his 55th goal for the nation in his 112th appearance.
The record was held by La Albiceleste’s legendary striker Gabriel Batistuta who netted 54 goals in 78 games for the two time World Cup winners.
The Barcelona superstar broke the record in some style with a stunning free kick goal from over 30 yards. The vine of that brilliant goal is provided below.

Since Spanish manager Rafael Benitez left the club back in 2010, Liverpool have been inconsistent at the back and Jurgen Klopp has got a huge task of reinforcing his defense this summer.
The former Borussia Dortmund manager has already agreed the signing of Joel Matip and the Cameroonian star will be joining the Merseysiders from Bundesliga side Schalke.
Moreover, the Reds are also interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen center half Jonathan Tah.
Adding to that, Jurgen Klopp was at the Copa America Centenario and monitored the performances of River Plate defender Gabriel Mercado. The German manager is said to be a keen admirer of the South American full back as per the statement made by the president of the Argentine club (Infobae).
Liverpool are not the only club looking to secure his signature. Mexican side Monterrey are also interested in hiring the services of the quality 29-year-old defender (Ole).
As per the provided Ole link, the La Albiceleste star has a termination clause of just $2million in his contract.
In your opinion, should Liverpool sign Gabriel Mercado?
Firstly, Organizers played Chile’s national anthem for the Uruguayan team and had to apologize.
This time around, before the game between Argentina and reigning champions Chile, Chile’s national anthem was interrupted by a Pitbull song.
The two time World Cup winners eventually won the game thanks to goals scored by Angel Di Maria and Ever Banega.
Here is the vine of that national anthem blunder provided below.

Lionel Messi has beaten Neymar and Cristiano Ronaldo to claim the Ballon d’Or for a record fifth time.
The 28-year-old was voted the best player in the world ahead of his Barcelona teammate and the Real Madrid forward at the FIFA ceremony held in Zurich, Switzerland.
Messi received the most votes from a panel made up of national team coaches and captains, as well as a selection of the world’s media.
The Barcelona forward, who picked up his first world player of the year award in 2009, repeating the feat for the following three successive years in 2010, 2011 and 2012, was hotly tipped to take the title for a fifth time, having finished second to Cristiano Ronaldo in both 2013 and 2014.
Fantasy football game Oulala have compiled Messi’s stats in both La Liga and the Champions League during the calendar year, highlighting just how instrumental the Argentine was for Barcelona during their treble winning campaign.
Messi played a significant role in helping Luis Enrique’s side lift their fifth UEFA Champions League, 23rd La Liga and 27th Copa del Rey. In turn, Barcelona became the first team to collect all three trophies for a second time, following the club’s memorable campaign of 2009.
The Argentine scored 34 La Liga goals from 33 appearances in 2015, as well as five goals in nine games in the Champions League during the calendar year. On a per minute basis, the 28-year-old scored a goal, on average, every 80 minutes in La Liga and at an average of every 162 minutes in the Champions League.
Combining goals and assists in both competitions, Oulala’s numbers show that Messi either scored or made a goal, on average, every 61 minutes. In contrast, Ronaldo took an average of 64 minutes, while Neymar averaged 83 minutes.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner also registered 19 assists over both competitions in 2015. Two more than Ronaldo (17) and five more than Neymar (14). He recorded a total of 2,008 successful passes in both La Liga and the Champions League during the calendar year, more than both Neymar (1,919) and Ronaldo (1,262).
Messi also outperformed both players for dribbles. The Argentine completed 226 successful take-ons in both competitions during 2015, compared to Neymar’s 196 and Ronaldo’s 66.
Lionel Messi got Oulala’s vote. In 2015 he was Oulala’s overall top points scorer by a long way. The Barcelona forward picked up a total of 1,878 fantasy football points compared to Neymar’s 1,526 and Ronaldo’s 1,235.
Do you agree that Messi deserved to win the 2015 Ballon d’Or?
Romero has never really been a hit at club level but remained an important figure for the national side.
Former Argentina manager Sabella considered him as an excellent goal keeper.
The 28-year-old goal keeper featured in all 5 games for Argentina in the 2010 World Cup. Germany ousted them in the Quarter finals.
Moreover, Romero played pivotal role in helping Argentina qualify for World Cup 2014 and Copa America 2015 finals but again La Albiceleste could not win the title.
The star goalie has been released by Sampdoria this summer and according to ESPN, Romero has agreed three year deal to sign for Manchester Untied and will link up with his new teammates in days.
As per the provided link, Victor Valdes is set to leave Old Trafford after Van Gaal confirmed that the Spaniard is available for transfer and Sergio can prove to be a decent replacement.
According to Marca, De Gea’s move to Real Madrid is still stuck because United are adamant that they want Navas and Ramos in a swap deal from Los Blancos.
On the other hand, La Gazzetta della Sport reported few days back that Manchester United have already agreed deal to sign Argentine international Sergio Romero who could possibly be De Gea’s replacement. As per the provided link, a three year contract worth 1.8 million Euros a year has been agreed.
Moreover, renowned journalist Andy Mitten tweeted:

“Understand Argentina ‘keeper Sergio Romero flying to watch MU v Barça in Santa Clara. Set to sign for Utd (from uwsonline.com)”

Hence, there are chances that De Gea can possibly meet his replacement tomorrow when Barcelona and Manchester United collide in the International Champions Cup.
Romero has been Argentina’s number 1 goalie and was a key member of the squad that lost the World Cup final to Germany last year and Copa America Final to Chile few weeks back.
The Spanish international has already agreed terms with Los Blancos if reports are anything to go by.
On the other hand, Italian source La Gazzetta dello Sport claim that Manchester United have agreed deal to secure De Gea’s replacement in the form of Argentine goal keeper Sergio Romero.
As per the provided link, the 28-year-old shot stopper has agreed three year contract worth 1.8 million Euros a season to secure Man United move. The Red Devils supporters now desperately wait for official announcement from the club.
In my opinion, the Argentine star is a decent goalie but by no means a top quality replacement for De Gea.
He has been the main goal keeper for the national side and was part of the squad that lost the World Cup final last year against Germany and Copa America final few weeks back against Chile.
In your Opinion, is Sergio Romero good enough to replace De Gea.
Having lost out on the Copa America in the final on four occasions, Chile have finally done it and won the big prize for the first time in their history by beating tournament favorites Argentina.
La Albiceleste will be in heart break for quite some time as their wait for a major trophy continues having won the Copa back in 1990s.
Not to forget, Argentina lost the World Cup final last year to Germany and last night was another bitter one for the South American giants.
The game was full of attacking football, however lacked goals as no team proved to be clinical in front of the net. Lionel Messi failed to show up on the biggest stage yet again and the frustration on Barcelona’s star face was evident.
Leo was the only Argentine to convert the penalty. Higuain and Banega missed the spot kicks for Argentina in horrific fashion as Chileans scored all to seal victory.
Here is the vine of the winning penalty from Alexis Sanchez.
Who will come out on top?
This is the 7th time Chile are hosting the competition but they have not even won once, instead have lost 4 times in the final. Their last appearance in the final was way back in 1987.
Argentine on the other hand have won the title on 14 occasions and have the chance to go level with Uruguay if they are victorious. Here are three key battles that may decide the Copa America final.
Alexis Sanchez vs Marcos Rojo
The Arsenal star Alexis has mainly started as central forward but with Eduardo Vargas in top goalscoring form, he should be the one to lead the line while Alexis must play in his preferred position on the right hand side of attack.
Man United’s Marcos Rojo plays as left back for Argentine and the battle between the two premier league rivals will be intriguing. Alexis should be considered favorite to come out on top.
Arturo Vidal vs Javier Mascherano
Vidal has been the creative architect for Chileans in this tournament and will be up against one of the best holding midfielders around in Mascherano. Masch was arguably Argentina’s best player in last year’s World Cup and he is impressing big time again.
Chilean Defense vs Lionel Messi
The Barcelona superstar absolutely made a mockery out of Paraguayan defense in the semi finals. Although he was not on the score-sheet, Lionel assisted three and was involved in all of Argentina’s goals on the night. Goes without saying that if Chile fail to contain Mess then defeat is inevitable
