Colon made five appearances this spring, going 0-3 with a 7.02 ERA. He surrendered as many runs as his had strikeouts (13). His numbers versus the Nats last season aren't exactly encouraging either, going 1-4 with a 4.50 ERA.
Sherzer was as sharp as you could ask him to be during spring training. going 1-0 with a 1.35 ERA. Few pitchers strike out as many hitters as Mad Max, and he had 23 Ks in just 20 innings of work during Grapefruit League play.
The Mets didn't have a lot of success against Washington last year, and they've lost eight of the last 10 in this series. This looks like another tough spot for the visitors, and I expect the home side to get their money's worth from their ace today.

Vancouver plays six of its final 10 regular-season contests at Rogers Arena as it sandwiches three-game homestands around a four-game road trip.
The Canucks and Jets are among five Canadian teams in playoff position, and if that holds, it’ll be the first time that many qualify since 2004.

Calgary now leads Los Angeles by two points for third place in the Pacific Division standings. Kari Ramo played well for the Flames, but he wasn’t able to make the big save when the club needed it most. Now Calgary needs to bounce back as they continue their home stand on Monday night against a Colorado Avalanche club that sent them to a tough defeat last week. The Flames will host the Dallas Stars on Wednesday night as they close out their home stand. Calgary has lost three of their last four games overall.
The Colorado Avalanche will look to double up on their win over the Flames last week and continue playing solid hockey as they head down the home stretch. If not for a late blow third period lead against the Anaheim Ducks on Friday night the Avalanche would be entering Monday night’s contest with a four game winning streak. Colorado is 7-2-1 over their last 10 games.
Calgary has struggled down the stretch here when they’ve had opportunities to really help themselves solidify a playoff spot. It seems less like the pressure is getting the best of them and more like the lack of depth is. If the Flames want to win on Monday night and hold off the Kings the rest of the way they’re going to need some more production from their other lines.
-Calgary has 10 power-play goals in the last nine games while Colorado has killed off 30-of-31 penalties over a 14-game stretch.
-Semyon Varlamov, 6-0-1 with a 1.43 goals-against average in his last seven starts, will be in net.
-Flames G Karri Ramo takes a 2-4-0 record and 2.86 goals-against average versus Colorado into Monday’s matchup.

The Canucks are 2-8 in their last 10 vs. Pacific and 4-1 in their last 5 games following a loss of 3 or more goals. Pittsburgh has been an absolute disaster when it matters most in recent years, and right now they’re slumping badly as they head down the stretch. The Penguins are in jeopardy of dropping into a wild card spot now that they are tied at 88 points with the Washington Capitals. That would most likely ensure a first round match up with either the Montreal Canadiens or New York Rangers in the opening round of the playoffs.
The Coyotes are an absolute mess (as they have been most of the season) and enter Saturday’s affair on a six-game losing streak. They’ve essentially stopped scoring goals as they have a total of five goals in their last six. They are the league’s lowest scoring team since the All-Star break, averaging just 1.60 goals per outing. Meanwhile, the 3.12 that they’re allowing in that span is the third-worst number in the NHL. The -1.52 goals per game that they are getting outscored by is also a league-worst number. In desperate need of offense, the Pittsburgh Penguins might finally have their leading goal-scorer back on the ice.
Mired in their longest regulation skid in three seasons, the Penguins could have Evgeni Malkin available Saturday night when they try to avoid a fifth straight defeat and extend the Arizona Coyotes’ misery at home.

In Arizona the Coyotes continue to freefall and the only thing that’s going to stop it is the end of the season. The Coyotes (21-42-8) have dropped six straight, 16 of 17 and have not recorded more than two non-shootout goals while being outscored 50-20 during a 1-12-2 home stretch.

Florida (32-25-14), five points behind the Bruins, continues to cling to hopes of reaching the playoffs for the second time in 14 seasons. The Panthers avoided a third straight loss by winning 3-1 over Detroit on Thursday.

Columbus' recent surge includes a pair of shootout victories over Edmonton after it beat the Oilers 4-3 on the road Wednesday. Curtis McElhinneymade 44 saves before stopping two of three attempts in the tiebreaker. Sergei Bobrovskymay be back in net, but he's surrendered 10 goals on 64 shots while losing the last two games against the Canucks. The Blue Jackets are all but mathematically eliminated from the playoff race in the East.

The Canucks are in the hunt for a playoff spot and currently sit in second place in the Pacific but they are well off of a sure thing to qualify and will be in a dogfight until the very end. Vancouver is getting healthy at the right time and the pieces returning are vital to their success and with a win over the Flyers in their last outing this game seems like a foregone conclusion that they are going to skate away victorious. While you have to be cautious of the let down spot here the Canucks are simply the better team and need wins against the also rans to make the difference between qualifying and not. Vancouver rolls.

Calgary (38-27-5) is trying to catch Los Angeles for the final Pacific Division postseason spot or Winnipeg for the last West wild-card slot. This has been a miracle run of a season for the Calgary Flames, but if they can’t finish these last few weeks strong it will all have been for naught.
Tuesday night was not one of their better efforts with the St. Louis Blues in town. Both clubs started slow and it wasn’t until the middle of the second period that the Blues finally got on the board. Calgary has been a great third period club but it wasn’t to be on this night. The Blues doubled their lead just 1:18 into the third period and added a couple more goals as they sent the Flames to a 4-0 defeat. Now it’s time to see if this Calgary club really has what it takes to finish the deal.
For the Philadelphia Flyers it’s all about getting the June entry draft. Philadelphia is averaging 1.64 goals on the road since the All-Star break for the league’s second-worst mark. Mason has posted a 1.89 goals-against average in his last 17 starts but is 1-10-6 with a 2.63 GAA in 19 on the road. The Flyers dropped their seventh straight road game at Vancouver 4-1 on Tuesday to fall to 9-19-9 away from home.
