Africans usually take the rain as a sign of blessing and one place those blessings are currently being counted is The Theatre of Dreams.
A month ago Old Trafford received a lot of criticism for their playing style. This was mostly voiced by the fans who kept on chanting “Attack! Attack! Attack”. Praise has to be heaped on Van Gaal though. [A true football genius] He’s been able to make players who were termed doomed in their careers to play an important role. The likes of Fellaini, Young and Mata have benefited from the Dutch man and as for now they look more likely to stay on.
Van Gaal has opted to have a Spanish wing with the likes of Valencia, Mata and Herrera and its paying dividends. Smalling’s absence was clearly noted even in our local entertainment joint but that did not deter the in form Red Devils.
Against Aston Villa it was a Spaniard once again on the score sheet. Ander Herrera had not been given much of a start during the campaign, only coming in as a substitute and even then he impressed. Now with more game time he’s proving himself a necessity to have on the pitch along with Juan Mata.
5 minutes into the game Rooney was about to pull the trigger to put his name on the score sheet before being tugged back. The referee turned down his penalty appeal. He did himself no favours ranting at the referee and playing on with a scowl to show his frustration.
A few minutes from half time, Blind and Young paired up on the left. Instead of delivering the ball to Fellaini (which was ineffective, as the Belgian was marked), Young dragged the ball to Herrera who sent the ball past Brad Guzan into the bottom left-corner.
Di Maria came in for Young and it did not take him long to find his favourite man (Wazza). He beat his man and delivered a cross for the England captain which was too far behind but Rooney showed why he is The White Pele(Master Class). He plucked the ball from the air and swiveled to do a half volley sending the ball rocketing into the back of the net.
Two minutes later, the Villans got a consolation goal when Benteke fired home a low cross from Joe Cole that Dave should have done better to keep out.
It was not over till the fat lady sang. Herrera swiped in a drop ball from Rooney past Guzan to secure the 3 points. The kid can’t send a screamer like Scholsey but (dang!)he does have a nose for goal (the new Scholsey with spunk).
With growing fluidity in every match, its safe to say that the players have understood LvG’s philosophy and are going to be a pain on every team till the end of the season.
Will Man United continue to shine or will they be kept in check by arch rivals Man City?
Give your thoughts on the trend of the Red Devils and areas of improvement.

Manchester United has been under the spotlight for quite sometime. Mostly due to their lack of conviction when playing. A win against arch rivals Liverpool showed that The Red Devils are now cruising to their return in Europe’s elite competition [Champions League].
Manchester United. In the past, the mere mention of the name would make teams across Europe shudder and defenders legs would buckle knowing they were going against an elite attacking force which never lost hope. The 1999 Champions League final proves the Reds ‘Never say die spirit'(the boys have guts and determination).
After the FA cup loss to the Gooners, the team had an awakening call. They finally found fluidity in passing, keeping possesion and going forward. Tottenham lost 3-0 while Liverpool have been dealt the same cards at home turf.
Mata has not been given many chances to start but with each game he plays, he shows the Manager and fans what they are missing. His brace in this game was well deserved.
After 14 minutes of play, Fellaini played the ball to Herrera who played a crisp through ball to Mata down the right flank(the kid is jst like Scholes). Mata sprung the offside trap and sent his shot past Simon Mignolet inside his right post.
Mata still had a bag of tricks up his sleeve and the show had to go on. Angel Di Maria came in as a substitute and set up a beautiful cross for Mata who volleyed it in superbly(arguably one of his best goals).
However, Carrick was sloppy and lost possession which we paid dearly for with Sturridge scoring a consolation goal. The Devils did not take advantage over a 10 man Liverpool. Pressure was not kept constant and even after being handed a penalty, Rooney found it hard to convert it to make the score 3-1.
The match will be remembered most for what I believe to be the fastest Red Card ever handed down to a player(45 seconds). Steven Gerrard came in the second half and before Pele(yes, the football great) could even get back to his seat in the directors’ box, the England midfielder was sent off for stepping on Ander Herrera’s ankle(I’m not quite sure that’s how he intended to end his career in the EPL).
At the dying momets of the game, there was a heated exchange between Skrtel and De Gea.The referee missed it but Skrtel was nowhere near the ball when he stepped on Dave’s shin(a definite career killer) but God was on Dave’s side. I believe the FA should give punishment for the hedious act though.
Man United now sit in 4th with 59 points, 1 behind 3rd placed Gooners. So, have the Red Devils finally had a transfiguration and will they maintain a steady course in their quest? Have your say.

Manchester United is a team that has been under a lot of criticism of late but the match against Tottenham just goes to show that the Fergie spirit still burns in them.
Pundits and fans [along with myself] would argue that it was the best football we’ve seen in eons from Man United.
Michael Carrick showed how he has been missed these past several weeks. He put Fellaini through and the Belgian took no chances, stroking onto the ball before dispatching it low, left-footed, past Hugo Lloris.
Mata sent a corner kick to Fellaini who got his head to it but was half way cleared by Nacer Chadli.(As if it had been a tennis serve) Fate would have it as Michael Carrick returned the ball from 18 yards straight into the net to put the visitors 2-0 down [ a feat of accuracy].
After much controversy over his boxing video, Wayne Rooney showed how business is transacted on the pitch and even getting a few laughs over the whole matter. Rooney threaded the ball through the legs of Eric Dier then nipped around him to collect it again and score. He then celebrated his goal by staging a mock boxing fight and falling to the ground.
I think Alan Shearer summed it up pretty well when he said playing Wazza upfront is a no-brainer.
The result comes as a boost for United in their bid for European football only having been knocked out of the FA cup by the Gooners earlier in the week.
With Spurs K’od, it seems United have found their feet under Louis Van Gaal. They looked more passionate, calm and blood thirsty for goals. Whether they will dip in form remains to be seen (I seriously doubt it) but the statement from Old Trafford is “We are Manchester United and you should fear us!”
Give your say on Man United’s performance. Image Source: Telegraph

Monday’s FA cup quarter final pitted two arch rivals together. The atmosphere was heating up as with every fixture of the red devils against Arsenal. What came after the end of 90 minutes just showed every team in Europe where Manchester United are in their quest for redemption as Kings of Europe.
Arsenal went up first with a goal from Monreal which Dave did little to save but 4 minutes later we showed the Gunners whose boss, after Rooney found the net(Keep him upfront- way better than Falcao). Di Maria sent in a bullet cross and the English talisman stepped up to the plate to direct it past Szczesny (Had it been RvP or Falcao??).
After the half, the Reds lost their cool, Valencia hit a back pass that was snatched by Welbeck before Dave could get to it and slotted it home for the Gooners. All was not over, as Di Maria was booked for diving, then sent off for touching the referee (a definite No! No!- clearly his got major issues.)
Manchester clearly showed that they were a team with no form of Identity whatsoever. They lacked in purpose, drive,no sense of direction and had to walk away with their tail between their legs.
At this rate it makes you wonder where we’d be if De Gea (who has yet to put pen to paper on a new deal) and Rooney were out injured. At the time, they are the only two outstanding players not forgetting Rojo whose had a fantastic EPL debut season. So LvG needs 8 more players for his best XI.
Now with his work cut out for him, LvG must stop experimenting with players and place them in their suitable positions, lest he faces the same music (with an even greater margin). The next few matches against the likes of Tottenham, Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea and Arsenal are going to be the toughest of the campaign and will decide whether we get a top four finish.
Van Gaal claimed after the defeat:

“We don’t lose from the opponent, we lost from ourselves and it was very disappointing. You play this match to win; to beat the opponent, we wanted to be in the semi-final.”

Will Louis and his players get their act together or fear being left out of Champions League football for a second season in a row?
Comment on what should be done to improve the Reds chances of survival.
Man united did not show any signs of being title contenders as they looked sloppy, unimaginative and a team without so much as direction.
This was depicted by constant booes during the first half from the home crowd who kept on chanting “Attack! Attack!”.
How long Van Gaal will keep on with this sharade no one quite knows but it was the captain of the ship who put a grin on the fans faces and gave his team inspiration.
A fired in cross from Ander Herrea (The New Scholes with spunk) came in for Radamel Falcao, which he controlled beautifully showing his master class (Perhaps we do need him).
However, he was wrestled to the ground in the area by John O’shea but this led to former Red, Wes Brown, being sent off (a case of mistaken identity).
Rooney took the spot kick magnificently burying the ball in the low corner at the 66th minute. He later went on to add a second just before he was substituted for Juan Mata.
With the FA cup match against Arsenal coming up, the Red Devils would want to find rhythm in their playing style or sing along to a humiliating defeat at their arch rivals hands.
United are now third in the premier league but Arsenal have the chance today to take the place back.
Share your thoughts on the United Revolution under Louis Van Gaal.

Ladies and gentlemen of the footballing nation, the January transfer window is here with us. This is the time when managers take out their pens and axes to make necessary adjustments to their squads.
If you’re good enough on the pitch then be sure you will either stay put or you will be wearing a different shirt. For those who have not been putting in stellar performances be sure that the axe (which is well brandished) will find its mark.
The EPL is coveted as one of the most challenging leagues in the world and this season it speaks for itself. Just like a hollywood script, the season is filled with mind twisting sequences and every character has a role.
Chelsea are sitting top of the table. Now, this was not unexpected since they have a very balanced squad. With the signing of Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas, they have been picking points off teams.
Manchester City are combined 1st after an inconsistent start. This is good news for them considering they look more or less their former selves. So this is the time they need to do some soul searching and look like title defenders.
Manchester United come in 3rd. A team plagued with injuries in every inch of the pitch except the far end, they are doing quite well. It makes one wonder where they would be if the whole squad was fully fit. That having been said, they need to solve their defensive woes to look more the Red Devils we used to see under Sir Alex.
Arsenal are sitting in 6th. This team has some brilliant players but they are not giving their all. Though youngsters, one can feel they pose a threat but give it to the gunners to let people down. They were in superb form last season but they threw it away. Arsene and Co. need some soul uplifting if his team is to get silverware.
Liverpool are in total disarray after the departure of Suarez. Now in 8th, you have to question whether they were a one man team considering they finished 2nd last season.
Nobody in their wildest imagination could see Southampton as title contenders and now they’re doin one hell of a job to stay in the top four. Currently in 4th they have impressed many.
So will Chelsea clench on to 1st, will Man city find true form, will Man Utd finally find redemption, will Arsenal finish fourth again, will Liverpool find their strut or will Southampton stun the EPL.
As we go into the next half of the season we expect a lot of mouth watering displays to keep us glued to the big screen.

With what had proved to be a disastrous campaign under David Moyes regime, players from every nook and cranny were tipped to join the club. A few weeks into the EPL season and one player has stood out of the Old Trafford ranks.
The transfer of Angel Di Maria from Real Madrid to one of the best clubs in Europe was dramatic. It was a tug of war between Paris Saint Germain and the Red Devils. PSG had to let go of the rope as Di Maria proved too costly. Fans and fanatics greeted the move with excitement.
What better way would have Louis Van Gaal welcomed the 26, year old than by making him don on the famous no. 7 shirt. Players such as George Best, David Beckam and Cristiano Ronaldo just to mention a few grew out to be outstanding players. I see ‘The Noodle’ will have no problem making his name known throughout Manchester and even the Stretford end.
With two goals to his name, he is proving himself to be a master class player. His debut goal came from a set piece against Queens Park Rangers where he shot a dead ball that went in near the far post where the keeper stood no chance of blocking it. He also assisted in Juan Mata’s goal with a cross to the playmaker only for him to tuck it in. Angel went on to become the Man of the Match.
His second goal was against Leicster City. Wayne Rooney played a through ball to Di Maria who was being flanked down in the box with two defenders to his side and the keeper. ‘The Noodle’ lobed the ball with his left foot, over the keeper and into the back of the net.
I know what many of you think, that its too early to tell whether he will become a brilliant player or be left seeking himself like one, Nani.
Di Maria’s engine makes him a great asset to provide balance to the forward line. He can zip around the pitch, giving defenders no respite, as he bites into tackles and fearlessly runs at them tring to work an angle for a shot or a cross. Di Maria is great at close control and dribbling in tight spaces.
The winger is definetly working his way to becoming a Theatre of Dreams legend. “Lights, camera, action!” as the Argentinian steps onto the stage of the most competitive league in the shirt of one of the best teams in Europe.

It was a match of talents, wits and who had the better boots on. Having demolished Queens Park Rangers, it seemed Manchester United were back on track but woe unto us for having counted our chicks before they hatched.
The game seemed like a Shakespeare drama which left smiles on Leicster fans and sorrow on the Devils side.
Robin Van Persie’s career had been questioned but he gave a satisfactory reply. In came the Flying Dutchman with one screamer of a header coming from a cross from his fellow dutch compatriot – Daley Blind.
Wayne Rooney was exuberant. ‘Waaza’ played a through ball to Angel Di Maria. ‘The Noodle’ was flanked down but he managed to lob the ball with his left foot, over the keeper and into the back of the net. With two goals to his tally, he is proving himself a master class player and a true custodian of the no. 7 shirt.
Ander Herrera added himself to the score sheet with a back heel goal when a shot went drifting into the area.
The curtains should have been drawn then but the Foxes baraged the Red Devils and four goals went past David DeGea. The climax came when young Tyler Blacket was sent off for a very horrid challenge.
Lucrative players like Di Maria, Rojo, Blind and Herrera are proving to have been the best pieces of the jigsaw puzzle. One piece definetly needed is an experienced centre back which Louis Van Gaal desperately needs to solve his defensive frailties. As for one Radamel Falcao, he has yet to start firing goals but time will tell.
After the weekends shocker, every fan might have said the EPL title is elusive. United did win, not so convincingly against the Hammers and the question that still looms over Manchester is “Are we there yet ? “. The answer is, “…Yes” but the players need the team spirit to start clinching points like not so long ago in the Ferguson era.
The biggest task for LvG is restoring back that spirit and the fear that once were the King of Europe – Manchester United.

3, 2, 1…IGNITION, the new EPL season has kicked off. Viewed as one of the most coveted and exuberant league to play in, football journalists, pundits and fans were glued to their screens.
A lot of signings had been made across teams, some old and new faces all but waiting to make their debut. The question that hovers over everyone’s mind is “Who will take the prestigious cup this time?”
Well, what perfect way to have started the season than Manchester United playing at the Theatre of Dreams against Swansea. The 2013 champions had finished 7th place last season under the tutelage of one David Moyes. The dismal performance resulted in the manager losing his job and a new person stepping into the limelight.
Louis Van Gaal is the name making headlines in Manchester. With 6/6 wins under his belt, united fans and fanatics alike expected to kick start the season on a high but the Red Devils failed to redeem themselves at home no less.
When you are a football manager you have to expect the unexpected and this was one of those moments. The last time the Reds lost at home during a season debut was in 1972 when they were beaten 3-2 by Ipswich.
Though there were fresh faces in the team like Jesse Lingard, Tyler Blacket (21 and 20 respectively), they were too fresh-faced. Man United squandered chances and had to pay the price with Gylfi Sigurdson driving home to win the game for Swansea.
After the match, King Louis took the blame for what he described as a lack of team play. For fans worldwide this match just proves one thing, United aren’t going to be title contenders with these current crop of players.
Moves are still possible for the services of Di Maria, Mehdi Benatia, Juan Cuardado and Daley Blind. Deals for Vidal, Marcos Rojo and Hummels are complicated. With only 2 weeks to the close of the transfer window major signings will act as a relief to the fans.
Will Van Gaal lead the Devil to Europe’s elite competition and English glory or are we going to sit back and watch a sequel to last season’s tragicomedy?
For sure, “A new storm is breaking in the English seas.”
