It is the midfielders’ responsibilities to attempt and effect that. The lfc setup is the ball playing and not a defensive type. If I am the coach here, my best defenders would be great attackers with footballing intuition right from wings to the midfield. After all, ‘the best form of defence is in effective attack’. I would not waste my money on the likes of expensive Van D. As good as he is hyped up to be, where is southampton in the league standing? Take a look at lfc, if not for the injury concerns, we would have won this league this season long before now with our present defenders. We need players who can press and wreck havoc and score all kinds of goals against any kind of defence. This madness of going to spend £50 million on a defender must not be allowed to succeed. Spend that amount instead on strikers, midfielders and wingers and the sky will be our limit next season.
