Only about 21, built like a brick you-know-what, fast and with good positional sense this guy could be the answer to our endless search for a defensive midfielder so let’s hope the next round of rumours hint at a Liverpool bid! Mind you, hinting seems to be as far as we ever get . . .

The need for another CB at Anfield is obvious, and some of the ones in Germany sound impressive, but can they ALL be that hot, that brilliant? Are they better than that Argentine guy who we are supposed to be after? Should we go for somebody young, with potential, or Howedes, of Germany, who is a very experienced, current international having not missed an international game for several years . . . and he is supposed to be available for a ridiculously low fee from a relatively small club. Young-ish, he’d be a perfect defensive partner for Hector and German-speaking Matip, and with Emre Can only a few yards further forward, they could natter away in German. How much fun would that be . . .
