As has already been said by our abysmal defensive record last season is the reason for a major overhaul at the back & the likes of Aldereireld would be a decent addition.
Are we well stocked in central midfield? probably, but regarding a proper destroying DM lynchpin definitely not. Sandro was the real deal before injuries finished him & none of the current crop can fulfil that role adequately IMO.
That’s why we are supposedly looking at the likes of Imbula & Rabiot & were also eying Kondogbia. As good a job as he’s done for us I think Mason will be the one to drop to the bench & we will see Bentaleb given that free’er role while someone like Imbula sits in.
Off load some of the dross we have in our squad (we all know who). Add the two players mentioned in this article to the 2 we have already signed & then add a quality wide player & striker then u have almost a perfect transfer window for Spurs.

Partly the reason we leak a lot of goals is because we play an attacking high defensive line game – that means we are always at the risk of a defensive collapse. The strategy is to score more than the opposition – not to have an airtight defense. That being said – we did need to gain some new defenders who could play this style of football well – some of the existing ones couldn’t

I can’t believe you are even asking the question! 53 goals conceded in 38 league games is why! How can we possibly convince Hugo Lloris to give us one more season unless we do EVERYTHING possible to strengthen the last line in front of him? Scoring goals was far less of a problem for us than stopping them from going in. We are not Brazil and we are never going to win every game 4-3. Nor should we try to. Fix up the defence and things will flow from there. Remember, this is just one article – about defensive players. We are also being linked with strikers and midfielders, all over the internet, in fact. As doubtful as it is, that either of these two deals will come off, it would be fantastic if Toby Alderweireld did, in fact, join us. I still think Southampton are favourites to sign him, if anyone does. They are the first side to have put in a realistic offer, as of this morning. Without improvements at the back, we have no chance of breaking into the top 4. That’s just the way it is…

In reply to c b waters. hopefully we need more defensive players to replace Kaboul, Chiriche and Fazio who need to be shown the door. We leaked more goals than any other side in the top half of the table and more than a lot of the bottom sides. While a midfield playmaker would be great, along with another striker to support Harry, getting it right defensively wouldn't go astray either. COYS

Exactly! Why do we need MORE defensive players? We have enough, and if the management consider that we don’t, then WHY have so many defenders on the books that aren’t totally believed in?? Because it’s not just about cover for games played, and any key injuries. Don’t get me wrong, I would LOVE to see Spurs get a defender in the Terry or Kompany mould. If anything, a leader ANYWHERE on the park would be something! But at present, our priorities are clearly a top class central midfield playmaker, a pacy left winger who can cross a ball, and another top striker to complement Kane. THAT should be our aim ..so come on Spurs, stop being so obsessed with defenders!
