Say he signs at the end of January. He will have to train for AT LEAST 4 weeks (maybe longer, given the Ukrainians have a Winter break), which would make him available for less than three months, before he would be available on a free transfer. Furthermore, given that we already have a full complement of 17 foreign players in the squad (18 if Yedlin is counted), there will have to be departures of foreign players from the squad BEFORE anyone else can be added to it. This excludes Assou-Ekotto, who is not even in the current squad. At the very most, I could see us paying £1-2m, as we did for Lewis Holtby, who found himself in similar circumstances, two years ago.
