Actually Fergie wouldn't have signed him because of the Glazers' debt... After 2009 United have been one of the stingiest Premier League spenders (I believe Stoke have spent at least 20m more on new players than United have). The good thing is that Moyes being unable to motivate his current squad will have an enormous war chest to spend in the summer to protect the Glazers' golden egg. Kroos (or Hamsik) and Carvalho will be more than enough to make our midfield very solid with the in-form Fellaini and Carrick pinching in as subs. Jones is great at the back when fit, so all we need is two midfielders, a solid center back like Mangala, Hummels or Garay to replace Vidic and a left back to replace Evra (most likely Coentrao). With that in mind United will take four big money transfers to overhaul all areas of the pitch that need strengthening. I hope Van Persie stays, but if he doesn't, we can use Rooney as center forward (his favorite position and Welbeck as a sub), Mata as second striker (his favorite position and Kagawa as a sub) and Januzaj and Nani (yes, I said Nani) as starting wingers. Here's how I see United s best formation (4-2-3-1) for next season with approximately 100m spent on new players and cashing in on RvP, Chicharito, Cleverley and Evra and with Rio and Giggsy retiring :
----------------------------------------------De Gea-----------------------------------------------
Rafael(Smalling)------Jones(Smalling)--Mangala(Evans)---Coentrao(Buttner)
-------------------Carvalho(Carrick, Fletcher)--Kroos(Fellaini, Powell)---------------
Nani(Zaha, Valencia)-------------Mata(Kagawa)----------Januzaj(Nani, Kagawa)
-------------------------------------Rooney (Welbeck)------------------------------------------
Let me know what you think of that :)
