Its obvious that Moyes has decided that the squad he inherited from the great SAF is in need of a major overhaul wif many of United’s best players now in their late 20s to mid 30s and some showing signs of decline like Ferdinand, Vidic, Fletcher, Valencia and Nani while the likes of Young, Smalling, Buttner, Cleverley, Zaha, Fellaini, Hernandez and the recently moved on Anderson and Fabio have all failed to prove to Moyes that they are up to the standard expected of Manchester United!
Add to that the fact that Evra won’t be signing a new contract and is free to leave at the end of the season with Giggs set to move into a coaching role while both Carrick and Van Persie have struggled with injury most of this season and it really is clear to see just why United haven’t been able to defend their title this season!
The signing of Mata and contract extension of Rooney is just the boost United and Moyes need to kickstart the push to finish in the Champions League places which, if achieved, especially after the 1st half of Moyes 1st season in the United hot seat will feel like a successful season and give our new manager a foundation from which to build on next season.
Moyes will still need to make at least 2 more signings in this transfer window to help him turn this season around, the obvious positions needing filled being Central Midfield and Left Back. Latest rumours suggest a bid in excess of £20m has been made for young Southampton star Luke Shaw which makes perfect sense given his age and ability but even more so to help the player settle in while Evra is still at the club and may also help get him on the plane to Brazil. However it is the Centre Midfielder that comes in during this window that will make or break United’s season as this is the key to Moyes turning things around and we’ve been linked to plenty of top players in this position too like Guarin, Cabaye, Kroos, Vidal, Pogba, Hamsik and even Khedira until he got injured. For me though the player that United should go all out for to bring in is Ilkay Gundogan, Dortmund have been without his services all season due to a troublesome back injury however he is nearing full fitness again and with him not being cup tied in the Champions League and available for around £30m he’s the ideal player to sign now and with Kagawa already here he’ll have an ex teammate to help him settle in too!

Guarin may be a better signing not just because of injured Carrick. Since he can hold ball and diatribe, can push forward, assist goals and strike from long range, he may be a significant signing

Urgently Needed’ even The injured Carrick is no longer the ideal solution for UTD mdfld.. Often ineffective to compete with the likes of yaya toure’ paulinho’fenandhinho’ etc. Utd shld do away wt him..
