Schubert Hopes to Defeat Sevilla to Third Place

Sevilla are playing against Borussia Monchengladbach at Borussia-Park tonight. The match starts at 20:45 CET. The visitors must achieve a victory, if they want to continue further than the Group Stage. On the other hand, the Germans need a victory in order to place themselves in a good position for 3rd place in the group.

This is a very important match for both teams. If Manchester City and Juventus end in a draw and Sevilla win in Monchengladbach, Unai Emery’s men can decide their own fate at the game against Bianconeri at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. But if Juventus succeed in winning, Sevilla is out of the Champions League.

The Germans are out of the competition, because they have only two points from four matches. However, if they achieve a victory tonight, they can make the Europa League. The players are in excellent form since Schubert has been the club’s manager. Gladbach have achieved a draw and a run of seven wins in German competitions.

André Schubert said that the team would “need to give everything” to achieve a victory over Sevilla. Borussia Monchengladbach earned great 1-1 and 0-0 draws to Juventus, but Manchester City achieved a 2-1 victory. Sevilla is one point ahead of the Germans.

Schubert commented that Sevilla were very strong opponents, but his team showed that they could play against strong clubs like Manchester City and Juventus. He added that they would play attacking football and would try to be positive. The club manager said that they could win with one point only and he would be glad if they moved to the 3rd place in the group.

Sevilla was defeated by Real Sociedad last weekend. They were playing without Konoplynka, Gameiro and Banega, who were resting for tonight’s important game. The team will be playing without Kakuta, Carrico, Beto, Nico Pareja and Andreolli, while Borussia Monchengladbach are playing without Schulz, Dominguez, Herrmann, Stranzl and Hahn.

This is Sevilla’s third Champions League. Until this season, they have always succeeded in going through the group stages. They lost the past three games at the league. The team was defeated in 4 of 17 matches in the competition.

The teams have faced each other three times and all of them were during this year. They played in the Round 32 of Europa League in the 14/15 season, when Sevilla succeeded in winning both games (1-0 and 2-3). Also, Unai Emery’s footballers achieved a 3-0 victory on home land in the Group Stage this season. This means that they hold full percentage record against Borussia.
