Feyenoord Climb the Eredivisie Table

Feyenoord managed to climb to the second place in the Eredivisie table after defeating FC Twente 5-0 in a match that took place in Rotterdam yesterday.

The match started with a one-minute silence in memory of the victims of the Paris attacks. During the first half, Simon Gustafson scored two goals. During the second half, Bilal Basacikoglu, Michiel Kramer and Karim El Ahmadi netted three more goals against Twente.

Back on Saturday, Ajax played against SC Cambuur and Joel Veltman scored the opening goal. However, Sander van de Streek, The Yellow-Blues’ midfielder, equalized before long. Yet, Ajax managed to achieve a home win after Amin Younes, Arek Milik and Davy Klaassen scored four goals.

Meanwhile, the derby between PSV and Willem II took place in Tilburg. The Peasants lost their second place and Feyenoord took full advantage of the situation and now, it is currently ranked 2nd in the Eredivisie table.

Feyenoord, under the guidance of Giovanni van Bronckhorst, benefitted greatly from the draw result of the game between PSV Eindhoven and Willem II and managed to climb one place. Now, Feyenoord is going to keep up the pressure on Ajax. The latter has successfully retained its leading position in the Eredivisie table.

Simon Gustafson scored the first goal for the hosts in the 7th minute. Karim El Ahmadi, Michiel Kramer, Bilal Basacikoglu also contributed to Feyenoord success and the team currently has a total of 29 points out of 13 matches. The difference between Feyenoord and Ajax is just three points.

Feyenoord was the club where the football star Robin van Persie started his career. He left the club to join Arsenal but now, he is playing for the Turkish Fenerbahce. Although the manager of Fenerbahce denied any intentions to sell Van Persie, rumour has it that he has already found him a replacement and Van Persie’s return to Feyenoord seems inevitable.

Last year’s Eredivisie champion, PSV Eindhoven, are currently ranked third as they failed to achieve a victory over Willem II while Ajax triumphed over Cambuur 5-1.

Twente takes the 15th place. The 2010 champions are striving to bring their old glory back but according to the latest reports, the club is in a terrible financial condition. In addition, they are approaching the relegation zone.

Heracles is currently fourth while Vitesse moved to 6th position. The match between the Vitas and ADO Den Haag finished 2-2, although Vitesse had better chances of scoring during the first half. Kelvin Leerdam and Sheran Yeini scored their first goals of the season, but Ruben Schaken and Timothy Derijck equalized pretty soon.
