Arsenal boss makes 'personal call' to sign Argentine star

Arsenal manager Unai Emery is understood to have personally contacted Ever Banega in an attempt to lure him to the Emirates during the summer transfer window. The Argentina international is presently in the ranks of Sevilla but his club future remains doubt following the recent dismissal of director of football Oscar Arias.
According to Estadio Deportivo, Emery is supposedly keen on a reunion with Banega after having previously managed the midfielder during his time with Valencia and Sevilla. It is added that the former Paris Saint-Germain boss has personally contacted the Argentine via a phone call in order to tempt him to join the north London giants.
Banega rejoined Sevilla for a second stint last year after a one-year spell with Inter Milan but his future has once more come into the focus this summer. Banega is said to have held a close relationship with director of football Arias at the Andalusian club and the 52-year-old’s sacking appears to have unsettled him.
Nonetheless, Banega has yet to make a formal decision to leave the Spanish outfit and any proceedings regarding the same may only come to fruition following his return from the World Cup finals in Russia.
The Gunners have been busy since the start of the transfer window and they have already bolstered their ranks with the signings of Stephan Lichtsteiner and Bernd Leno from Juventus and Bayer Leverkusen respectively.
Meanwhile, the club are understood to have also reached an agreement to sign Sokratis from Borussia Dortmund but an announcement has been delayed until next month with Dortmund seeking to balance their accounts for the financial year.
Elsewhere, Sampdoria’s Lucas Torreira has been another player who has been regularly touted for a Gunners move and the next couple of weeks could give a fair reflection as to whether the Uruguayan will make the switch to the Emirates.
