Arsenal and Manchester United have been looking to sign a solid holding midfielder for quite some time and the search continues.
Currently, gunners have the likes of Arteta and Flamini for the DM role but both are past their best.
On the other hand, United are playing Daley Blind as the defensive mid but the Dutch international is more of a deep lying playmaker and not a very strong play breaker like his compatriot Nigel de Jong.
Both sides will look to reinforce that department in the winter transfer window and both are after Newcastle United’s Tiote.
However, as per reports, Arsenal are leading the way to secure Tiote transfer from magpies and United may have to look elsewhere.
The Ivorian has himself claimed that talks have been held with Arsenal as well as abroad but he would like to stay in England. Tiote stated:
“I want to leave. I’ve spent four years with Newcastle. I think I have reached a stage where it’s maybe time to look elsewhere for a new challenge.”
“I will focus on upcoming games and let’s see what happens between now and December.”
“It is true there were contacts for me from Arsenal and a club in Russia. I’d prefer to stay in England.”
With Tiote’s heart set on a move to Emirates, Arsenal should act swiftly on the work required to seal his move so that he joins as soon as the transfer window re-opens in January.
