Liverpool Player Ratings vs Southampton – Sterling Stars

Brendan Rodgers LiverpoolLast season’s runner ups Liverpool have started their campaign with a win over Southampton on the opening fixture of the new season.
The Reds had to do it the hard way as Ronald Koeman’s Saint stars fought hard and deserved something from the game.
Rodgers’ side took the lead early in the first half thanks to a sublime ball by Henderson finished clinically by Sterling.
Merseysiders have heavily reinforced their defense this summer but once again their more focus was on attack and once Liverpool conceded, they were at sixes and sevens at the back.
However, the new SAS Sterling and Sturridge combined to restore Liverpool’s lead late in the second half to earn all three points.
A crucial win for the Reds who face tough fixtures next against champions City and Tottenham.
Here are Liverpool ratings vs Southampton.

Lovren was quality, Skrtel too. Manquillo is a disaster waiting to happen (with regards to his career-ending lunges).
A decent win none the less. We would have taken that result even with Suarez in the side. I would have thought a 4-2-3-1 would have suited the personnel better, especially as it saw Coutinho get bullied out of the game.
3 points in the bag though. We go again… YNWA

  2. Noblelox says:

    – Martin Skrtel had 20 clearances. He led Liverpool and the league last season with 11.5 per 90 minutes and is well on his way to doing so again this season. Lovren was second with 11 and Manquillo was third with 5.
    – Skrtel also led the side in touches with 111, Manquillo was second with 109, and Lovren third with 86.
    – Skrtel won the most aerial duels as well with 7 while Lovren was second with 6.
