Liverpool Must Learn from Past January Windows & Sign Quality

Brendan Rodgers LiverpoolLiverpool are on course to qualify for the Champions League after 4 years of wait as they currently sit joint 4th with Tottenham.
However, Reds are finding it hard to reinforce their squad in the winter transfer window and that may as well cost them dear. Fans will be hoping that does not happen.
The merseysiders lost out on Mohamed Salah thanks to months of time wasting and negotiations and Chelsea did the job in just 24 hours to lure the talented star.
Liverpool must learn from past January windows and sign quality if they are to finish in the top 4 this season.
2010-2011
Hodgson was a disaster anyway and legendary Dalglish brought a major up lift. More importantly, Liverpool signed two stars, mainly Luis Suarez in January who helped restore respect as Reds were mid table in January but finished 6th in the end.
2011-2012
Dalglish did most of the business in summer and after 23 games, Reds were 5th lying 4 points behind 4th placed Chelsea.
Perhaps the owners/manager thought the squad was good enough to finish fourth but it wasn’t. Disaster struck in the second half of the season and Liverpool finished 8th.
2012-2013
Liverpool were mostly disappointing in the first half of the season, without Luis Suarez, they would have been in the bottom half come January.
Rodgers then added the quality of Coutinho and Sturrige in January that helped hell lot in changing the season.
2013-2014
Reds are 4th and now is the right time to invest in quality players to achieve their main objective. The squad is perhaps good enough for fourth but the rivals are improving.
Tottenham have depth, Everton are bringing in new faces as well, Manchester United have broken transfer record to bring Mata and Liverpool have done nothing so far.
Liverpool need more quality NOW more than ever to be impressive in the second half of the season as well. FSG must understand that the millions spent now can be amplified if Reds end up qualifying for Europe’s elite competition.

surely the owners must know by spending now they will end up making more cash as we will go on to establish ourselves not only in the top 4 but in the CL every year. it is now or never and I am not just being desperate for signings but I see it is going to be harder from now on to get into top 4. Teams wont be so slack in spending in the summer thinking they are already good enough as this season shows how close the teams are.

I don’t really understand the way liverpoolfc go about their transfer business please we need quality signing if we must play champion’s league comes next season FSG should be more serious about this team and invest in this team enough is enough let get our glorious day back

  3. DisgruntledFan says:

The problem with Liverpool is the owners try to lowball everyone thinking their evaluation is the best ever evaluation and then another club walks in offers couple of million more and then the frustrated lowballed club sells them to the club with the new offer. (Clint Dempsey, Willian, now recently Salah).
It isn’t rocket science to understand if you invest on somebody this January you will reap the benefits with CL qualification(also this money back too) and possibly get players to build a team around Luis Suarez.
