One Step Forward, Two Backwards – Story of Chelsea Star

One Step Forward, Two Backwards – Story of Chelsea StarLiverpool had one of the best strikers in the world few years back in the form of Fernando Torres. However, since Spaniard joined Chelsea, his downfall started.
No point mentioning and comparing his scoring stats for Liverpool and Chelsea, the difference is massive and Torres surely misses Anfield as Stamford Bridge has never been a fortress for him.
He has tried hard to revive his Chelsea career but whenever he has taken one step forward, such situations have arised that he has then taken two backwards. This has been the story of Chelsea star.
Example – 1
Early days were difficult but under new manager Villas Boas, he started the season well. Against United, he was arguably Chelsea’s most threatening player, scored a beauty and was creating havoc. Then missed an absolute sitter after rounding De Gea.
That did not seem to influence him much, as he scored in the very next game against Stoke. But disaster struck as Torres was shown straight red for two footed challenge. Came back from his suspension to only find his starting place lost to Drogba. Spent 2 months without starting a league game.
Example – 2
One major difference at Liverpool was that El Nino was the only star striker, he was never good at dealing with competition. Di Matteo tried hard to somehow fit Torres perfectly in his system but like other managers he could not. Nevertheless, in came his favorite manager, Benitez and Torres started scoring for fun again.
Then Benitez signed Demba Ba from Newcastle, who immediately scored a brace on his debut. Torres’s form turned ridiculous once again, especially in the league as he feared he’ll lose the starting place if he performs badly.
Ba was cuptied in Europa League and Torres was one of the players of the tournament last season. Baffling how good he was in Europe and how horrific he was in the league.
Example – 3
The latest one. New signing Eto’o is still trying to find his feet in England. Torres was handed the chance by Jose Mourinho and he impressed by performing brilliantly in consecutive games. Inevitably, Spaniard became Mourinho’s first choice striker.
However, red card against Tottenham, controversy of scratching Vertonghen (survived ban) combined with 3 weeks injury has hampered poor Torres again.
Still feels that it is the curse of leaving Liverpool? We do not know but he lost his best days at Anfield that much we do. Adding to that, little or more bad luck has never helped him either.
