Arsenal were renowned for not spending big on a single player but proved everyone wrong by capturing arguably the signing of the premier league in Mesut Ozil.
What is more impressive is that even after interest shown by Manchester United, Gunners were able to seal the deal.
No points for guessing which team has more chance of winning any trophy. Arsenal have not won in years while United regularly lift top prizes.
Ozil had the choice but opted to sign for Arsenal instead of the English champions. He mentioned the main reason why he came to the Emirates:
“He (Wenger) is a world-class manager – he’s demonstrated that for years”
“A lot of players have developed under his guidance in the past and that’s why I decided to join Arsenal”
Despite the trophy drought, Arsenal and especially Arsene Wenger has not lost his credibility. He is still widely regarded as one of the top managers in the world.
On the other hand, we have seen many players snubbing Manchester United this summer and it was baffling when the Devils are arguably one of the best teams in the world. What has changed? The manager, David Moyes who is by no means regarded as a world class manager by anyone but perhaps Ferguson rates him too highly.
Many United fans believe that the transfer window would have been completely different if Alex Ferguson was still in charge.
May be just may be, Ozil might have signed for Man United under Ferguson but sadly that was not the case as Gunners secured the German star.
