Why are Manchester United so Interested in Spanish Star Ander HerreraThe English champions have not been active in this summer transfer window but in the remaining days they are looking to add at least two quality players in the squad.
One position Manchester United have been really wanting to fill is that of center midfield. However, the Red Devils have failed to lure top transfer targets like Alcantara and Fabregas.
They are still running for Everton’s Marouane Fellaini but the latest reports suggest that David Moyes wants Athletic Bilbao’s midfielder Ander Herrera.
Athletic have reportedly rejected United’s 25m bid for the 24 year old midfielder and want them to meet his release clause. The question is, why are Manchester United so interested in this Spanish star.
Ander Herrera is good but by no means a versatile talent. More than 80% pass completion rate last season but in 29 league appearances he could only score single goal for Bilbao and provided 2 assists.
On the other hand, there is Fellaini who is flexible and can fit in many positions. He is naturally a defensive midfielder, passes well and also supports in the attack.
Last season, the Belgian international scored 11 league goals for the merseysiders and provided 6 assists as well.
There is no point of paying hefty amount for Herrera when they already have a very similar kind of player in Cleverly as well.
Fellaini is the one Manchester United need the most and David Moyes should not waste more time in bringing one of his own player to Old Trafford. He is expensive too but a proven premier league player and will be worth every penny. No one knows that more than Moyes himself.
