Much has been speculated about the future of Wayne Rooney at Manchester United. Manager David Moyes made it clear that he wants the England international at the club next season. However, Rooney has different options available and he may have other ideas.
Nevertheless, if the former Everton forward does leave, it will not be all bad as United already have a ready-made replacement for Rooney. The player in discussion is none other than Japanese maestro Shinji Kagawa.
Former Borussia Dortmund playmaker was not able to play regularly for the Red Devils under the management of Alex Ferguson last season. Kagawa won the premier league crown with the English club but he is not fully satisfied at United. The midfielder claimed:
“It was great to win the title with United, But I feel I still have work to do”
“I would say I am half satisfied, half unsatisfied”
Devils signed him for a decent sum yet Kagawa could only start 17 league games in their title winning campaign.
Despite being injured and normally playing out of position, the Japanese impressed as he scored 6 goals and provided 3 assists in the league last season. His former manager Jurgen Klopp praised him as one of the best attacking midfielders around and someone who must play centrally.
Kagawa contributed directly in 30 goals in 49 league appearances (21 goals 9 assists) during his 2 year spell with the German club and helped the side win Bundesliga titles. The statistics are brilliant for any midfielder in the world.
In case Rooney wishes to leave then United should use the funds to reinforce other areas and Shinji Kagawa should be introduced as his direct replacement playing behind the lone striker i.e. Robin van Persie.
The Japanese is determined to impress new boss and will cut his vacations short to join the squad for pre season tour. Surely, starting a motivated player in Kagawa is better than keeping an unhappy Wayne Rooney at the club.
