Reports suggest that Liverpool target Henrikh Mkhitaryan is closing in on a move to Champions League runners up Borussia Dortmund. Although, Dortmund have not yet been able to meet Shakhtar’s price tag of 30 million Euros, but they are the closest to singing him.
Liverpool will surely be disappointed if they lose out on top target as they did not really face any sort of competition in bringing four players this summer. However, Mkhitaryan was always going to attract major clubs because of his brilliant performances last season with the Ukranian club.
Nevertheless, even if the merseysiders do lose out signing Henrikh, it might not be all bad. Mkhitaryan to BVB may make LFC favorites to sign Dane star Christian Eriksen.
Liverpool have been linked with the versatile Ajax midfielder for some time but they have been mainly chasing the signature of Mkhitaryan. Dortmund on the other hand were also linked with Eriksen as reports suggested that the German club wanted to replace Mario Goetze with the Dane.
Adding to that Eriksen also praised BVB’s manager Jurgen Klopp claiming that he is a great coach, someone who is not afraid to play young players.
However, the situation might be different now. Dortmund have already signed forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from St-Etienne while Mkhitaryan and Eriksen are both attacking midfielders. Surely Klopp would not look for both players as Marco Rues is already there as well. If the Germans do land the Armenian international then expect their interest in Eriksen to cool down.
This should inevitably help Liverpool as the Reds and Dortmund have been the two main clubs in the limelight that are linked with the Ajax star. Eriksen scored 13 goals for the Dutch club last season and his performances in the Champions League were really impressive as he provided 4 assists in 6 games.
Liverpool should look to sign an alternative if Mkhitaryan snubs them and there are not many better options than Eriksen. However, they may face the very same obstacle as in case of Armenian i.e. Champions League football. Can LFC somehow convince Dane without European football, perhaps unlikely but only time will tell.

It certainly is all bad loosing out on Mkhitaryan due to Ayrehead incompetence and FSG refusing to pay what was needed – unless we get both Eriksen & Wanyama we can forget next season.
