Losing Gareth Bale Won’t Hurt Spurs Much

Losing Gareth Bale Won’t Hurt Spurs MuchHaving failed to qualify for Champions league for another year, Tottenham face a familiar dilemma of losing a top star this summer. This time it is the best player in the league, Gareth Bale who is linked elsewhere. Although losing him may seem bad but it won’t hurt Spurs much.
Over the years Spurs have sold their top assets for hefty prices and that is one of the mainn reasons why they have been able to reinforce the squad and finished in top 4 twice. Tottenham can do the same this summer by selling Bale and amplify progress next season.
There are more than a few examples whereby Spurs have benefited by doing effective business and the current super star Bale might never have been signed if Spurs did not follow this philosophy.
Spurs signed Michael Carrick for a sum of £2.75 million from West Ham. After two seasons, the English international was sold to Manchester United for 18 odd million.and Tottenham signed the likes of Darren Bent and Gareth Bale for combined sum of 22 £million. Mind you, Bale did only cost 6 million and now he is rated around 60 million+.
Back in 2002, Spurs signed Robbie Keane for £7 million and the Irish international was the main man upfront for many years before he departed to join Liverpool in 2009 for a reported sum of £20 million. Although he did return after 6 months for a cut price of £12 million.
Star striker Dimitar Berbatov also departed in 2009 when he joined Manchester United for a hefty figure of £30 million. The Bulgarian was only signed for £11 million by Tottenham in 2005. In came Pavlyuchenko and returning Jermain Defoe to add to the attack.
Last year, Spurs sold Luka Modric for £33 million to Real Madrid while they only signed the Croatian International for £16.6 million in 2007.
With such deals, no doubt Spurs lost quality stars but in return, they got some serious funds to play with and they did well by replacing them with multiple stars.
Last season, Bale ran the show for Spurs almost single handedly at times, without him they completely looked a different side. The Welsh International scored no less than 26 goals last season (21 in the league) and is deservedly rated so high.
If he leaves, Tottenham only have to make sure they do not sell him to a premier league rival. Other than that, they will have enough funds to reinforce certain positions. One main priority should be to sign a top quality striker. For now, nothing is confirmed about his departure, but if he does leave then surely it will not be all bad for Spurs.

Yes we can reinforce but i will like the idea of keeping him as we did with Modric
It helped only that CFC undeservedly qualified for CL

If spurs wish to continue in the position that they are then yes this sort of practice makes sense. However if we wish to show the sort of ambition to establish ourselves as a regular top 4 team who can make a serious challenge for the title then we simply cannot afford to keep selling our top players. We have a good squad and need only sign a few world class players. Obviously we need strikers and a creative midfielder. Bale is the sort of player who can attract big names to our club. We simply cannot get round the fact that selling bale would be a huge step backwards and I for one am more interested in moving in the right direction.
      COYS!!!

Your talk is the sound of reason. Totally agree with what u said

        • Garbonza says:

Agree fully. All the nay-sayers last year were talking like the sky was going to fall if Spurs got rid of Modric — and the club only ended up 33 million the richer and largely unaffected. Wish Gareth the best — as he’s always wanted to play overseas, eventually — take the 80 million, use 30 of it for two great strikers and make a big down-payment on the stadium.

  2. Rubet says:

    True
they over rely on him. seem direction less when he is not there. Selling him is the best option

  3. sammy says:

we can buy even 4 striker for the money we getting from madrid i think we be ok trust me

Losing Bale wouldn’t be the end of the World for THFC. With a good young squad (forget the one-man team nonsense – it’s, er, nonsense), and excellent youth set-up and personnel, the training ground, the stadium development, etc., having another huge lump sum to invest in exciting young talent is not a horrible scenario.
Consider this, though: Keeping Bale for another season, adding a couple of quality players, the youth coming on another year, making CL, and still getting the same or more money for Bale next Summer – isn’t that a better scenario.
Or this: There is one particular youth prospect in the Spurs Under-21’s from whom much is hoped. He would be perfect to play on the forward leeft of AVB’s preferred 4-3-3. Supposing we keep Bale for two seasons, allow this lad to develop, add even more quality players next Summer to the ones we add this, allow the youth to continue developing, qualify for CL ‘again’ bring this young starlet in as a direct replacement for Bale AND get the same or more money for Bale – isn’t that the best scenario, yet.
I hope you can see where I am going with this 🙂
The point is, while it truly won’t be a disaster selling Bale this Summer, IMVHO, and the club can even progress from it, it is the least good option. It says something, really that even the least good option could be quite a decent option, but I would prefer to keep hiom for another season, at least, Ta

  5. Mikee says:

Of course we CAN manage without Bale, what if he had a Sandro or Kaboul type injury in pre-season? We’d HAVE to manage without him. The question is, do we WANT to manage without him? Provided the supposed £60-80million we get for him is re-invested in new players, it may be the right time to cash in on him. Who knows, he might never have such a great season as this again and his value could start dropping.

  6. Tony says:

If he wants to go let him go, we sold berbatov couldn’t ge a regular 1st team game for united, reserve most of the time same with modric, they only seem to play for spurs, there’s some great players out there pretty lets go get em

  7. sammy says:

can you remenber about 2 years every game bale played in spurs shirt we lost it
    how time change

  8. spur1950 says:

can just here this scenario last year sell modric invest the money ,yeh well didnt work again did it ,50m worth brought into the club sold 125m yet again Levy making a luvly profit !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. Adel says:

Totally agree with what Tim has said. His talk is the sound of reason

  10. sammy says:

Avb should go for hooper from celtic he is good and is spurs fan and cheap

  11. Weeker says:

We could do the same as we always do and turn a profit on Bale. Yes we’ll probably buy a stunner that everyone will want at the end of next season but lets change the habit of a life time, stop being a feeder club hold on to our best players and compete with Europe’s finest.
Selling bale would make us 50mil but a good run in the champions league will net us a good mount of that. Missing out on Champions league football lost us 35mil so two seasons in the top 4 covers the loss of not selling Bale and earns us much more in terms of shirt sales, international players and a growing global market, remember Levy wants a new stadium, thats how Arsenal paid for theirs. Lets stop being nearly men and achieve some glory as well as some pounds!

  12. eb says:

Selling him would be retarded, we don’t have champions league next year so if we sell one of the only reasons anyone would want to come to the club this summer, it doesn’t matter how much money we get we won’t get the same quality players in. Levy just needs to pull his finger out just this one time get 2 class strikers a playmaker and maybe a left back and we’re sorted (I think) you need to spend money to make money, if we bought a striker for £20 mill we would be £30 mill up now from champions league money and all the other perks that come with it. Simple no?

  13. fishie says:

I agree to most of the comments that have been posted.
But untill we get our new stadia built we have no chance of levy spending the cash,i can see bale being sold for this reason alone and again buying cheap and getting by again and again again again lol.
Levy is a business man he is out to make money not have a loss. THFC is a business.
What we need is somebody to come in with loads of money to do all for us.

  14. C. Kendell says:

Aren’t you running on a little? Last week Bale was talking of what WE need to do at Spurs next season, and that was hailed as his clearest hint yet that he is staying. Now, because his agent has flapped his mouth about how he would be “honoured” to talk to Real, you’re talking as if Bale is already there. The agent may be trying to get a better offer out of Daniel Levy but as we know, whatever happens he’ll do well out of it so don’t do his job for him.
